Side Effects

& Dr. Banks: I want to start her on this. It’s called an SSRI. It affects the neurotransmitter in the brain called serotonin.
    Martin: What does that do exactly?
    Dr. Banks: Basically, it helps stop the brain from telling you you’re sad.

& Dr. Banks: It’s a beta blocker.
    Kayla: Is it bad that I’m doing this?
    Dr. Banks: Everyone takes them. Lawyers, musicians. People going to interviews for big jobs. It doesn’t make you anything you’re not. It just makes it easier for you to be who you are.


& Dr. Banks: Depression is the inability to construct a future.

& Jeffrey Childs: You went to school in the UK, at Durham. What made you decide to practice here in the States?
    Dr. Banks: Where I come from, if anyone goes to see a psychiatrist or takes medication, the assumption is they’re sick. Here, the assumption is they’re getting better.

& Dr. Banks: I always tell my patients, “You know what the best predictor of future behavior is?.. Past behavior.”
