The Coat Hanger

American Horror Story: Asylum

2×9
& Dr. Gardner: So... you went around finding dead animals?
Johnny: Yeah. First couple of times... Then I learned that killing them was just as good. Even better.
Dr. Gardner: And this compulsion... followed you into your adult life?
Johnny: No. I don’t harm animals anymore. I haven’t since I was a teenager. Did you know that killing animals is a predictor for psychopaths?..

& Johnny: You see, my name isn’t Morgan. It’s Thredson. I’m the son of Bloody Face.

& Sister Eunice: Well... the good news is, you seem to have conquered your sexual perversion. The bad news is... the rabbit died.

& Sister Eunice: If I were my Aunt Celeste, I would offer you a Drano margarita.
    Lana: A what?
Sister Eunice: You add half a cup of Drano for every two weeks you’ve been pregnant to a margarita.

& Sister Eunice: I know I, uh... I can’t begin to fill the shoes of the... Sister Jude we all knew and loved, but... let me say... I’m here to serve you. I want to help you save souls, all the way to Rome.

& Dr. Arden: I’m just trying to being friendly.
    Kit: Why?
Dr. Arden: Because I’ve seen what you’ve seen. They were here. The creatures you told me about. The little green men... except of course, they’re not green, are they, Mr. Walker? No. They’re obviously a great deal more powerful and technologically advanced than we are.
    Kit: They’re terrifying.
    Dr. Arden: Mm-hmm.

& Dr. Arden: A good scientist always protects his subject. For example, if your life were threatened, they would have to act to preserve their specimen.
    Kit: What are you saying?
Dr. Arden: If you were to be brought to the brink of death, they would return to reverse the process.
Kit: You want to kill me?
Dr. Arden: No, Mr. Walker. I want to almost kill you. Of course, it would be ideal if you were to cooperate, but then, I’m not asking for your permission.

& Kit: If there’s a chance I could see Alma again. I’ll do what I have to do.
Dr. Arden: Well, then, Mr. Walker, prepare to die.

& Dr. Gardner’s patient: I think I need another posthypnotic suggestion, Dr. Gardner. I ate an entire bucket of chicken by myself last night.

& Jude: Things are going to change around here.
Ω We'll be missing Dominique.

& Kit: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Dr. Arden: What are you mumbling about?
Kit: It’s the only prayer I can remember... Just in case.

& Dr. Arden: This is going to hurt.

Seven Psychopaths

& Myra: When you gonna get a job that ain’t just stealing from folks, Hans?
    Hans: I’m a 63-year-old, ain’t worked in 20 years. Myra, where am I gonna get a job?
    Myra: Government...
Hans: Government? “A job that ain’t just stealing from folks”? Government? Psst! Eh?

& Billy: So what happens to the seven psychopaths at the end?
Marty: I don’t know what happens to them at the start.

& Myra: You ever worry we was wrong all those years, and there ain’t no Heaven and there ain’t no nothing?
Hans: Of course I worry, but God loves us. I know He does. He’s just got a funny way of showing it sometimes.
Myra: Sometimes I think God’s gone crazy sometimes. Stuff He does, stuff He don’t do.
Hans: Well, He’s had a lot to contend with in his time, too, you know. Bastards killed His kid, too.
    Myra: Don’t say “bastards,” honey.
Hans: It’s just a word, Myra... It’s just a word, you know.

& Marty: I don’t have a drinking problem. I just like drinking.

& Billy: Holy fuck! What the hell happened?
Hans: Some punks jumped us. Said they were looking for a little shih tzu. Then some other punk killed those punks.

& Billy: That’s Hans, man. He’s a proper Christian. You know, proper old-time Christian. Not like these Fox News fucks.

& Hans: Well, as Gandhi said...
Billy: Oh, you two. If it ain’t Gandhi, it’s Jesus Christ.
Hans: “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.” I believe that wholeheartedly.
Billy: .......... No, it doesn’t. There’ll be one guy left with one eye. How’s the last blind guy gonna take out the eye of the last guy left who’s still got one eye? All that guy has to do is run away and hide behind a bush. Gandhi was wrong. It’s just that nobody’s got the balls to come right out and say it.

& Marty: I told you 20 times, Billy, I don’t want it to be violent. I want it to be life-affirming.
Billy: Life-affirming? Schmife-affirming! It’s about seven fucking psychopaths! Hey!

& Marty: I don’t know, man, it’s... The lead characters should just walk away. They should just drive off into the desert and pitch a tent somewhere and just talk for the rest of the frigging movie. No shoot-outs, no payoffs. Just human beings talking.
Billy: What, are we making French movies now? That sounds like the stupidest ending. No shoot-outs? That sounds like the stupidest ending to a movie I’ve ever fucking... No shoot-outs?!

& Billy: Wow. Now if we were gonna have a shoot-out, that’d be the perfect place.

& Billy: New idea. How about we change the title from the Seven Psychopaths to the Seven Lesbians Who Are All Disabled And Have Overcome All This Spazzy Shit And Are Really Nice To Everybody And Two Of ’Em Are Black? How about that?

& Charlie: I could’ve just killed you now, couldn’t I? You’ve had your friend killed, and you’re just about to have your other friend killed, but that still only makes two friends killed. I’ve had four of my guys killed, and also my girlfriend killed, who I didn’t like much, but that’s still five friends killed. That’s three more friends killed than you’ve had friends killed, so don’t give me that moany fucking face, okay?

& Billy: Hey, mongoloid, fix your fucking gun, or your little gay dog’s little gay head’s gonna fucking explode.
Charlie: He doesn’t have a gay head.
    Billy: Five.
Charlie: He has a normal head.
    Billy: Four... Three.
Charlie: Can you go back to five?
Billy: I ain’t going back to five, man. I ain’t going back to five. .... Five... Four...

& Hans: I know you said dream sequences are for fags, but I think it could work, don’t you? We all gotta dream, don’t we? Not just fags. Oh, by the way, I don’t think they like being called “fags” anymore. I think nowadays they prefer “homos.”

& Monica: Who are you, Jeremiah? I mean, oh, you’re like the fucking morality Nazi or something.
Jeremiah: A moral Nazi?.. You need to read a book.
Monica: You’re a sanctimonious* old prick.
Jeremiah: And you’re a hungry ghost.
Monica: Okay, okay. Why are you... you’re fucking... Damn it! You fucking provocateur. Okay, what is it?
Jeremiah: What is a hungry ghost?.. So glad you asked. It’s a creature that can’t be sated. Always trying to feed itself, but its arms are too long to reach its tiny little mouth.
Monica: Thank you so much for the bullshit sandwich, but I’m full.

& Jeannie: Gosh, how do you do it? You know, balancing marriage and career and kids?
Tamara: Well, you do one thing for a while until the other thing suffers, and then you swing back and pay attention to the other. It’s the most imperfect system, and unfair, but honestly, I haven’t seen anything else work better.

& Monica: You remember how I said that I had such a good time tonight?
Monica’s Date: Yeah, yeah. So, look, I’m pretty speedy. We could just...
Monica: That was reflexive, like, “God bless you” when you sneeze.
    Monica’s Date: Oh.
Monica: Because, truthfully? Listening to your fatuous, boring, hipster-elitist diatribe against free market capitalism made me want to go purchase a gun and then put us both out of our misery.

& Clyde: We’re talking $500 million. These guys do not have that type of money.
Marty: Oh, so you’re the consultant and the accountant now?
Clyde: Oh, okay, because I’m Jewish, I’m the fucking accountant? Fuck you, man.

& Marty: I need a drink. Uh, correction: I need to drunk.
Jeannie: Uh, yeah, drink till drunk.

& Susie: Where’s your beard?
Santa: I shaved. It was scratchy.

& Leigh Emerson: Well, Susie, none of it makes much sense, does it, huh? Flying reindeers, shimmying down chimneys, every good Christian house in the world in one night... Huh? And they call me crazy.

& Leigh: I’m gonna tell you what Santa’s gonna leave under your tree tonight... He’s gonna leave a little terror. A little rape.
Mr. Lancaster: You keep your hands off of her!
Leigh: Who said anything about her? You know the difference between that Santa Claus and me?.. He only comes once a year.

& Leigh: I have to finish my list, huh? It wouldn’t be Christmas without one big ticket item from Santa’s sack. And I’m feeling so full of the Christmas spirit, I... I am gonna let you choose which one of you I kill first.

Sister Eunice: That’s rich... Arthur. You really think you’re in charge?

& Sister Eunice: I hope this clarifies the chain of command, Arthur...

& Frank: What the hell’s that supposed to mean?
    Sister Eunice: It’s a name.
    Frank: Don’t look like English.
Sister Eunice: It’s not. It’s ancient Aramaic.

& Angel of Death: Who’s there? Who dares look upon Shachath? Show yourself.

Angel of Death: A nun, perhaps... but not so simple. Something else resides in you. One like me... but fallen. Cousin.

& Oliver: Don’t look so frightened, okay? I don’t want to hurt you. I want this to be as painless for you as possible, so I will give you a choice... I can either cut your throat, or I can strangle you. I don’t believe in guns.

Sister Eunice: It’s your conscience calling.

& Jesse: You know, I-I-I don’t get it. Why would anyone paint a picture of a door over and over again, like, dozens of times?
Jane: But it wasn’t the same.
    Jesse: Uh, yeah, it was.
Jane: It was the same subject, but it was different every time. The light was different. Her mood was different. She saw something new every time she painted it.
Jesse: And that’s not psycho to you?
Jane: Well, then, why should we do anything more than once? Should I just smoke this one cigarette?.. Maybe we should only have sex once if it’s the same thing.
    Jesse: Whoa, no...
Jane: Should we just watch one sunset?.. Or live just one day... Because it’s new every time. Each time, it’s a different experience.

& Marie: You can do this, Hank. Come on, it’s supposed to hurt. Pain is weakness leaving your body.
Hank: Pain is my foot in your ass, Marie.

& Jesse: You know what? I want it back. All of it. I’ll sell it myself!
Badger: Come on, man. Don’t be like that. Selling to these people, it’s like shooting a baby in the face. It’s not natural.

& Walter, Jr.: How’d you get her to sleep so quick? Are you that boring?

& Skyler: Do you even know Walt? I mean... how would he of all people buy a laser tag business? It doesn’t add up.
Saul: It adds up perfectly. Walt’s a scientist. Scientists love lasers. Plus they got bumper boats, so...

& Skyler: If you’re gonna launder money, Walt, at least do it right.

& Skyler: It’s a story people will believe. Not laser tag. This. This is what we buy. You. This is what you buy.

& Saul: Let me tell you something. If you’re committed enough, you can make any story work. I once convinced a woman that I was Kevin Costner. And it worked because I believed it.

& Saul: This dump isn’t gonna work because it doesn’t have a Danny. Okay? There’s no Danny here.
Walter: What in God’s name is a Danny?
Saul: Danny runs the laser tag. Danny is the guy who had a vision. Where others saw a dirt lot, he saw black lights, rubber aliens, teenagers running around with ray guns, right? ... You buy this place, all you got is a big building that squirts water. You got no Danny here.

& Marie: Guess what.
Hank: People who say “Guess what” and then actually expect you to guess... I hate those people.

& Skyler: What about me?
    Walter: What about you?
Skyler: Me. I’ll be the Danny.

& Walter: You are not in this! You are not...
Skyler: We’re married. How am I not in this?
Walter: We are not married, Skyler. We’re divorced! ...... Right?

& Jesse: What was that?
    Walter: An invitation.

& Gustavo: I hope you like paila marina... It’s a fancy name for fish stew.

& Walter: Why did you invite me here?
Gustavo: We’re working together... Why not break bread together?

& Gustavo: Mmm. It always amazes me the way the senses work in connection to memory... I mean, this stew is simply an amalgam of ingredients. Taken separately, these ingredients alone don’t remind me of anything. Hmm. Not very much at all. But, in this precise combination, the smell of this meal instantly... it brings me back to my childhood. How is that possible?..
Walter: Basically, it all takes place in the hippocampus. Neural connections are formed. The senses make the neurons express signals that go right back to the same part of the brain as before, where memory is stored. That’s, uh, something called relational memory. Uh... don’t quote me on that. I-I’m rusty on my biology.

& Gustavo: You are a wealthy man now. And one must learn to be rich. To be poor anyone can manage.

& Walter: What advice do you have for me?
Gustavo: Never make the same mistake twice.

    Walter: Condensation?
    Jesse: Yeah.

& Walter: We’ll find it any minute now. Don’t give up.
Jesse: Did you... Did you know that there’s an acceptable level of rat turds that can go into candy bars?.. That’s the government, Jack. Even the government doesn’t care that much about quality. You know what is okay to put in hotdogs? Huh?.. Pig lips and assholes, but I say, hey, have at it, bastard, because I love hotdogs, and, you know, see what I’m... What are you doing?

& Walter: It stays closed. That’s an order!
Jesse: You can’t order shit, Adolf. We’re 50-50 partners. Remember?

& Jesse: You ever have, like, a wild animal trapped our house?
Walter: Not that I can recall, no.
Jesse: We did, this one time, back when it was my aunt’s house, back before she died of cancer. Possum. Big, freaky-looking bitch. Hey, since when did they change it to “opossum”? What’s up with that? I mean, when I was coming up, it was just “possum.” “Opossum” makes it sound like he’s Irish or something. Why they gotta go changing everything?

& Walter: Is there a discernible* point to this story, a point that you’ll be arriving at sometime in the near future?

& Walter: The universe is random. It’s not inevitable. It’s simple chaos. It’s subatomic particles in endless, aimless collision. That’s what science teaches us, but what is this saying? What is it telling us, when on the very night that this man’s daughter dies, it’s me who’s having a drink with him? How can that be random?

& Walter: If had just lived right up to that moment and not one second more... ...that would’ve been perfect.

Amour

& Georges: But what is my image?
Anne: Sometimes you’re a monster. But you’re nice.

& Anne: What would you say if no one came to your funeral?
    Georges: Nothing, presumably.

& Anne: There’s no point in going on living. That’s how it is. I know it can only get worse. Why should I inflict this on us, on you and me?
Georges: You’re not inflicting anything on me!
Anne: You don’t have to lie, Georges.
Georges: Put yourself in my place. Didn’t you ever think that it could happen to me too?
Anne: Of course, I did. But imagination and reality have little in common.
Georges: But things are getting better every day!
Anne: I don’t want to carry on. You’re making such sweet efforts to make everything easier for me... But I don’t want to go on. For my own sake. Not yours.
Georges: I don’t believe you. I know you. You think you are a burden to me. But what would you do in my place?
Anne: I don’t want to rack my brain over this. I’m tired, I want to go to bed.

& Anne: It’s beautiful.
    Georges: What?
Anne: Life. So long. Long life.

& Nurse #1: You mustn’t take it too seriously. Usually they always say something. She might just as well say “Mum, Mum, Mum”. It’s just mechanical.

& Eva: Why don’t you call back? Don’t you realize we’re worried?
Georges: Your worries are no use to me! No, don’t get me wrong. I’m not criticizing you. I just don’t have the time to deal with your worries, that’s all.
    Eva: Dad...
Georges: No, let’s stop this conversation. Your mother is just as could have been expected: bad the whole time. She is turning more and more into a helpless child. It’s sad and humiliating for her and for me. And she doesn’t want to be seen in that state... You two have your own life. Nothing wrong with that. But let us have our life too. Okay?

& Eva: What’s going to happen now?
Georges: The nurse comes three times a week. Every two weeks Dr. Bertier and the hairdresser come. That’s what you wanted to know? No? Things will go on as they have done up until now. They’ll go from bad to worse. Things will go on, and then one day it will all be over.

Killing Them Softly

& Jackie: Oh, for fuck’s sake. Who’s running things?
Driver: You have no idea. No decision-makers. I got to take them by the hand and I got to walk them... slowly through it like they’re retarded children.
Jackie: What is it, a committee?
    Driver: Total corporate mentality.
Jackie: Christ’s sake. This country is fucked, I’m telling you. There’s a plague coming.

& Jackie: He’s gonna figure it... he’s waiting on somebody, he’s waiting on me or Dillon.
    Driver: So what?
    Jackie: You ever killed anyone?
    Driver: No.
    Jackie: It can get touchy-feely.
    Driver: Touchy-feely?
Jackie: Emotional, not fun, a lot of fuss. They cry. they plead. they beg... they piss themselves, they call for their mothers. It gets embarrassing. I like to kill them softly... from a distance, not close enough for feelings. Don’t like feelings. Don’t want to think about them.

& Jackie: This world is just shit. We’re all just on our own.

& Obama: ...To reclaim the American dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth that out of many, we are one.
Driver: You hear that line? Line’s for you.
Jackie: Don’t make me laugh. We’re one people. It’s a myth created by Thomas Jefferson.
Driver: Oh, now you’re gonna have a go at Jefferson?
Jackie: My friend. Jefferson’s an American saint... because he wrote the words, “All men are created equal”... words he clearly didn’t believe, since he allowed his own children to live in slavery. He was a rich wine snob who was sick of paying taxes to the Brits... So, yeah, he wrote some lovely words and aroused the rabble... and they went out and died for those words... While he sat back and drank his wine and fucked his slave girl. This guy wants to tell me we’re living in a community. Don’t make me laugh. I’m living in America, and in America, you’re on your own. America’s not a country. It’s just a business. Now fucking pay me.

I Am Anne Frank: Part 1

American Horror Story: Asylum

2×4

& Anne Frank: They made a joke. The businessmen at the bar. They said, “Don’t let them Jew you down.” That’s how it always starts, you know? With jokes.

& Shelley: Am I going to die?
Dr. Arden: Not exactly. As a matter of fact, after this, you’ll probably live forever.

& Anne Frank: Nazi murderer! You Nazi swine! ... Don’t you remember me, Doctor? I am Anne. Anne Frank!

& Sister Jude: So, Anne Frank, is it? What a relief it will be to millions of schoolchildren to know you survived.

& Anne Frank: He wasn’t called Arden then. He was Gruper. Hans Gruper. He was SS. And he was not like the others.

& Kit: Dr. Thredson, he... he said some things that are starting to make sense.
Grace: Well, if you were crazy, they wouldn’t make sense to you. Self-doubt is a sure sign of sanity.
Kit: Wait, you’re confusing me. If... you’re saying that if I’m crazy, then I wouldn’t believe Dr. Thredson, but if I’m sane, then my crazy stories would be true?
Grace: I have no idea what you just said.

& Kit: What am I?.. Crazy or sane?.. Am I a killer?!
Grace: I don’t care. Whatever you are... I’ll be with you.

& Lana: What is this stuff?
Dr. Thredson: Apomorphine. The standard drug for this kind of cutting-edge aversion therapy. They use it at Harvard, Brigham Young, Cornell... The theory is that we’re training your body to be physically repelled by certain... triggers.

& Lana: Whatever you say, Doctor. I want to do whatever works.
Dr. Thredson: ... We’ll begin with very simple visual stimulation. Daniel will take off his robe, and you will regard his physique. ...
Lana: I’m sorry, but... I don’t feel anything.
    Dr. Thredson: That’s okay.
Lana: You’re not gonna make him touch me, are you?
Dr. Thredson: Actually, I’m going to ask you... to touch yourself. Can you do that?
Ω What a pervert.

& Kit: Tell me the truth!

& Anne Frank: Come on... now’s the time. Confess, Hans Gruper. Nazi piece of shit.

& Dr. Arden: Go to hell!
    Anne Frank: I’ve been there.

Nor'easter

American Horror Story: Asylum

2×3

& Cooper: This ain’t funny, man. This shit went way too far.
Devon: Come on, man. It went as far as it could go.

& Sister Eunice: There’s a storm coming, Sister Jude... Big fat storm.

& Dr. Thredson: I realize you’re likely unfamiliar with the work of B.F. Skinner, but positive reinforcement has proven to be far more effective. In lay terms, Sister, a little compassion would go a long way.
Sister Jude: Me? I’m a beacon of compassion.

& Sister Jude: Even I can concede that there are a few exceptions to the usual Hollywood dreck. The Archdiocese is loaning us a copy of The Sign of the Cross.

& Sister Eunice: Sister Jude has arranged for a distraction. A movie, on Friday night, when storm will be at its worst. We’re all going to be together in the dark, watching The Sign of the Cross, a movie full of fire, sex, and the death of Christians... What fun.

& Dr. Arden: Are you wearing lipstick?
Sister Eunice: Mm-hmm. It’s called “Ravish Me Red.” It suits my porcelain complexion, don’t you think?

& Shelley: I want to go to Paris, France. They’re 20 years ahead of us. Here, I’m a freak. There I’d be celebrated. Haven’t you read Delta of Venus? Anais Nin embraced her sexuality without apology.

& Dr. Arden: You’re coming apart at the seams, Sister. Perhaps it would be best if you took a leave of absence.

& Sister Jude: Where’s that goddamn Mexican?

& Kit: The storm will cover our tracks. All we have to do is go through those doors, through the staff lounge and into the boiler room.
Shelley: And that’ll take us where, Narnia?

& Carl: Excuse me, Sister. I think we might have a problem.
Sister Eunice: Now? But the Christians are about to be eaten.
