Fade to Blue

Mr. Mercedes 2x10

Brady: ...in jail together?

Bill: You really expect me to shake that thing?

Montez: ... put a suit on, and just... generally look better than you do right now.

Reporter: Bill Hodges, Michelle Roberts, WPDK Milwaukee. Can I get a comment?
Bill: Free agency ruined baseball. That's all I got.

Shields: This is what I'm talking about, Your Honor. Mr. Mercedes is no longer among us.

Lou: I don't un... I don't understand what you're expecting me to do here.
Bill: Just go in and talk to him... see where it goes.

Bill: All right, I have a toast now. ... Somebody said it's not the destination, it's the journey. ... Look, however this ends, okay, however this ends... I met you guys on this journey, and, uh... and I love every one of ya. All that stuff. So that's the end of the toast. Now can we drink before the tea goes cold?

Lou: Oh, I don't know if I can do this.
Holly: ...when things get really hard sometimes, I tell myself that I'm gonna hold my breath for the rest of my life, which, of course, is impossible. I mean, no one can hold their breath forever, but next to that, you know, everything seems simple. So just tell yourself you're gonna hold your breath. But don't. But just, um, take breaths. Just... deep... breaths.
Bill: Uh, Holly?
Holly: Mm-hmm?
Bill: Stop helping.

Traitor

American Horror Story. Apocalypse

8×7

Dinah: Toenails? Nasty. You really hate your husband.

Dinah: Tell all your friends. The voodoo queen can fix any problem.

Dinah: The only thing that matters in this world isn't white or black. It's green.

Bubbles: Witchcraft is a talent that I was born with. But acting, I had to work for.

Bubbles: You and your generation think that you can get whatever you want with the click of a mouse or the uttering of a spell. But, let me tell you, to achieve something, that's magic of the highest order.

Bubbles: You expect me to read his mind.
Madison: Did you just read hers?
Bubbles: Like a Sidney Sheldon novel, darling.

Cordelia: You know why I'm here?
Papa Legba: The Antichrist. Michael Langdon. Bringer of the End of Days. But what makes you think I can help? I am merely a gatekeeper between humanity and the underworld.

Cordelia: Not every power is a blessing.
Coco: Well. I have the power of too much information. How am I ever gonna eat another corn dog?

This Is Us 3×5

Toby: Hello? Yeah, this is she, he, yeah, it's Toby.

Kate: One embryo, Tobes. We've got one shot.

Beth: Okay. Hoop earrings. "Hey, how you doing?" Or power necklace. "What's up?"
Randall: I like them hoochie hoops.
Beth: "Hoochie?" Okay, necklace.

Beth: No, you're an emotional man, Randall. You talk about fathers, you cry. You talk about daughters, you cry. Okay, you talk about the little round boy on the corner who tried to sell lemonade in the winter...
Randall: All his lemonade froze, Beth.
Beth: Yeah, well he was stupid, baby.

Beth: Knock them dead, Councilman.
Randall: You take no prisoners, baby.

Kate: Hey, babe... Thanks for being my rock.
Toby: Always.

Kate: Here's the thing. When sad things happen to me, I tend to shut music out of my life. A lot of sad things have happened to me, which is why I'm nearly 40, singing Adele-o-grams. Fits and starts, right?

Donny Robinson: How deep you want to go here, son?
Kevin: Well, I'm here, right?

Zoe: There's always gonna be something, right? And do I really want to spend my time trying to explain what it's like to be black to a white movie star?

Donny Robinson: In my experience with this particular war, sometimes the answers are so dark you're better off not having them.

I, Daniel Blake (2016)

Daniel Blake: Listen, you know, you give me a plot of land, I can build you a house. But I've never been anywhere near a computer.
Job Centre Floor Manager: D'you know what, we're digital by default.
Daniel Blake: Oh, here we gan. I hear this all the time on the phone, "I'm digital by default." Well I'm pencil by default.

Daniel Blake: Is that printing out now? You mean, they could have given it to me just like that?
China: Dan, they'll fuck you around, I'm warning you. Make it as miserable as possible. No accident. That's the plan. I know dozens who have just given up.
Daniel Blake: Well they've picked the wrong one if they think I'm gonna give up. I'm like a dog with a bone, me, son.

Daniel Blake: It's a monumental farce, isn't it? You sitting there with your friendly name tag on your chest, Ann, opposite a sick man looking for nonexistent jobs, that I can't take anyway. Wasting my time, employers' time, your time. And all it does is humiliate me, grind me down. Or is that the point, to get my name off those computers? Well, I'm not doing it any more. I've had enough.

Katie: They call this a "pauper's funeral" because it's the cheapest slot, at 9:00. But Dan wasn't a pauper to us. He gave us things that money can't buy. When he died, I found this on him. He always used to write in pencil. And he wanted to read it at his appeal but he never got the chance to. And I swear that this lovely man had so much more to give, and that the State drove him to an early grave. And this is what he wrote. "I am not a client, a customer, nor a service user. I am not a shirker, a scrounger, a beggar, nor a thief. I'm not a National Insurance Number or blip on a screen. I paid my dues, never a penny short, and proud to do so. I don't tug the forelock, but look my neighbour in the eye and help him if I can. I don't accept or seek charity. My name is Daniel Blake. I am a man, not a dog. As such, I demand my rights. I demand you treat me with respect. I, Daniel Blake, am a citizen, nothing more and nothing less." Thank you.

Seven Deadly Sins and a Small Carl Sagan

Young Sheldon 2×6

Pastor Jeff: Once again, our intentions were pure...

Pastor Jeff: ...But, most importantly, you'll have an opportunity to bring people to God by vividly demonstrating the perils of sin.

Mary: I already know the first change I'm gonna make. Instead of calling it "Hell House," which is a little off-putting, I'm gonna call it... "Heck House." Isn't that great?

Georgie: Oh, I get it. Happy wife, happy life.
George: You need to stop talking.

Connie: Hang on, y'all are trying to scare people into joining the church?
Mary: Yeah. But people like getting scared on Halloween anyway. Why not make 'em jump in the right direction?

Sheldon: Actually, fear has been a recruiting tactic used by organized religion for centuries. When you add guilt to keep people in line, it's an extremely efficient form of crowd control.
Mary: Our religion is based on love, Sheldon, not fear.
Sheldon: So what happens when people don't follow the rules?
Mary: They burn in hell.... Because God loves 'em.

Mr. Lundy: Oh, please. Anything for the church.
Mary: Are you a religious man?
Mr. Lundy: I'm an actor. I'm whatever you need me to be.

Mr. Lundy: Pride, envy, gluttony, lust, sloth, wrath and greed!
Mary: Wow, you know your sins!
Mr. Lundy: Well, again, I'm an actor. They are the tools in my box.

Mary: Do you believe this?
Connie: Believe it, love it, glad I didn't wait in the car.

George: No good?
Mary: It's awful. It makes sin seem like a good thing.
George: Well, that's the problem, isn't it? I mean, if sin didn't seem like a good thing, nobody would do it.

Mary: George, please, I'm in no mood!
George: Hey. Wrath. That's one of the seven sins, right?

George: Oh, look, pride. And envy. Don't stop. Four sins to go... I'm guessing lust ain't happening tonight.

Mr. Lundy: Mary, I am a trained theater professional. Why don't you just let me do what I do, while you, you know, go home and make... a nice tuna casserole. Hmm?

Adult Sheldon: Vindication, the sweetest candy of all!

Because You Left

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 1×3

Joel: You're destined for better things than this...

Midge: Salt it. The stain. Salt it, then pour boiling water on it till the water runs clear. Stain should be gone.

Imogene: Midge, you don't skim Dr. Spock, you absorb Dr. Spock, you inhale Dr. Spock. I mean, how are your children even alive and you have not read Dr. Spock?
Midge: I'm not sure.
Imogene: It's everything you need to know about raising children.

Midge: Don't forget to sit on the baby!

Kessler: Kirk Douglas gave me that. He used it when he played Van Gogh in that movie.
Midge: Really? W-Wow. I-I love Kirk Douglas.
Kessler: I worked pro bono for his pal, Trumbo, when he refused to name names to Congress.

Susie: Voting rights, he's on it.
Midge: What's happening with voting?
Kessler: Besides states keeping Negroes from the polls, you mean?
Susie: Yeah, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, he was on their team.
Kessler: Took four zaps in the chair to kill poor Ethel. There was smoke coming out of her ears.
Susie: Ah, Jewish women are known to be more difficult.
Midge: This is really fascinating. I'm-I'm gonna read up on all this stuff when I get home.

Kessler: We will fight it all.
Midge: Good. I would like to be found innocent.
Kessler: I would like that, too. Cops that hang out around outside clubs waiting to harass entertainers for doing their thing, I hate that. Passionately. You start controlling speech, you're slip-sliding toward fascism, and we saw how that turned out.

Midge: My behavior earlier today was irrational, irresponsible and extremely disrespectful. I let my emotions get the better of me. After all... I am a woman.

Lenny Bruce: But it's jazz. Who can tell when you're missing the notes?

Midge: So, first time at a jazz club, raise your hand.... Just me? Wow. Only virgin. Losing my virginity to a bunch of jazz musicians, every Jewish mother's worst nightmare.

Susie: She's special. I mean, raw, unpredictable. And we are going forward in a big, aggressive way. ... I just, I got one question.
Drake: Shoot.
Susie: What the hell do I do?
Drake: One question, huh? Okay, lesson one, learn how to deal with secretaries.

Midge: No. Because you left.

Raj: We're not laughing at you. We're laughing with you.

Penny: Trick or treat.
Leonard: No. Sorry, you're not wearing a costume.
Penny: Yeah, I am. I'm a pharmaceutical sales rep.

Bernadette: Now, if you'll excuse me, the prime minister of England needs her diaper changed!

Leonard: Oh, that's great. He's a Supreme Court justice, and you're the U.S. Constitution.
Anu: Yep. He interprets me. And guess what's underneath this?... The Bill of Tights.

Leonard: Are you agreeing just to shut me up?
Penny: You got another way? I'm all ears.

Bert: I don't get invited to a lot of parties. Is this a good one?

Sheldon: As you were eating that Danish, I wanted to point out that the Danish isn't Danish at all. It was imported by Austrian bakers during a labor dispute in the 1800s. But I chose not to, because I didn't want to be the kind of fella who foists unwanted facts about European pastries on the unwilling.

The Wedding Squanchers

Rick and Morty 2x10

Jerry: The trick to cereal is keeping 70% above the milk.
Beth: Jerry, get a job.

Rick: It's a courier flap. It's like the intergalactic version of UPS, but less off-putting.

Rick: Weddings are basically funerals with cake. If I wanted to watch someone throw their life away, I'd hang out with Jerry all day.

Beth: I want you to stand in the corner and face the corner and talk to nobody.

Birdperson: The guest list at this wedding includes 17 of the Federation's most wanted. We have committed numerous atrocities in the name of freedom...

Rick: Listen, I'm not the nicest guy in the universe because I'm the smartest. And being nice is something stupid people do to hedge their bets.

Rick: I haven't been exactly subtle about how little I trust marriage. I couldn't make it work, and I could turn a black hole into a sun, so at a certain point, you got to ask yourself what are the odds this is legit and not just some big lie we're all telling ourselves because we're afraid to die alone? Because, you know, that's exactly how we all die — alone.

Rick: All the important points seem pretty clear, no? They think they control the galaxy, I disagree. Don't hate the player, hate the game, son.

Rick: Fuck you, Summer, and fuck the government, and fuck me for letting my guard down, which I will never do again.

Rick: Take it easy. This is a blessing in disguise. Fuck Earth. You realize our planet's name means dirt, right?

Rick: Computer, how many planets in the Milky Way are at least 90% similar to Earth?
Computer: 765 known planets.
Rick: How many of those are outside federal jurisdiction?
Computer: Three.
Rick: See? Our cup runneth over.

Rick: Look at this baby! Would you even know that wasn't Earth?
Morty: Yes, because there's no Africa.
Rick: Pssh. White people problems, Morty.

Rick: South Pole discovered, baby!

Rick: Morty, if you go to where there's a bunch of ice cream and then you don't come back, you haven't actually gotten ice cream, you've just gone where ice cream is.

Inmate # 1: Hey, what are you in for?
Rick: Everything.

Mr. Poopybutthole: On, boy, oh. my! That's a real crazy ending, huh? .... Tune in to "Rick and Morty" season three in, like, a year and a half... or longer to see how we unravel this mess. Ooh-Whee!

Vietnam

This Is Us 3×4

Kevin: How in the hell can I know so little about my dad's time in Vietnam?...

Robinson: You're scared, Pearson. Don't you ever get tired of pretending like you ain't plain, flat-out scared?
Jack: Nah, I've been pretending my whole life, man. I don't know any other way.

Robinson: My ma... she used to, um, she used to do this thing, we were little, when we were scared. .... She'd tell us to breathe. It's a funny thing that we forget sometimes. We so scared that we gonna die, we forget to do the thing that keeps us alive. Breathe.

Commanding Officer: They want the place pacified, whatever the hell "pacified" means. I mean, how do you pacify people who don't want to be pacified?

Jack: Look, I just need to be where he is. Okay? Even if I can't get to him. Even if I can't do anything for him. I just need to be there. He's my little brother, Doc. It's my job to take care of him. That is my only job.

Jack: I have a plan...

Jack: Hey, you were born lucky. Remember? Your birthday is gonna be the 365th one called tonight, and you're not gonna get drafted. We just don't want to hear "October 18" for a very long time tonight... You know, I read that the cutoff is something like 200. And anybody picked after that's probably not gonna go.

Nick: I wonder what happens next to me. It's weird, isn't it... the way we think about our lives? What's next? What happens next? Always moving forward. I wonder if things would make more sense if you looked at everything in reverse. Like, if you... started at the end, and move backwards and try to figure out how you got there.

Nurse: Well, 11:58 p.m.... made it just by the skin of our teeth... October 18 after all. 18 is a very lucky number.

Stanley: Now, remember... big brothers look out for their little brothers. It's their only job. It's the only thing that matters.

Hoagie: Look, there comes a time in every man's life where you just gotta take stock. Ask yourself, "What's really important? What's on your bucket list?" ... All I know is that, for me, what I really want is to clean the urine off of that man's toilet seat.

Hoagie: Come on, Bob. You gonna grow old, or you gonna keep playing?

Sable: Well, I'm paranoid that my original paranoia might turn on my paranoia.

Rebecca: So what happens if you lose?
Chilli: You lose.
Hoagie: You're it.
Rebecca: What does the winner get?
Chilli: There are no winners. Just not losers.

Hoagie: Synchronize your watches.
Bob: I don't know how to do that.
Chilli: I don't wear a watch.
Sable: Time is a construct.

Sable: How come "bi-weekly" means both twice a week and every other week? That's mad confusing and it's just linguistically lazy.

Chilli: I will be so pissed if she didn't have a miscarriage.
Bob: Chilli! We all would be. It's just a thing you don't say. It's implied.

Sable: This is a miscarriage of justice.

Rick: Well, I can think of another way... to build for the future.

Rick: Killing each other when the world already belongs to the dead? It's not the way, not anymore.

Rick: I remember everyone we've lost... Not just to the Saviors. But the whole way. And I know I need to honor them. To build life, not... not take it. Because it's us or the dead. And every life counts now.

Arat: ... "No exceptions."

Maggie: We gave Rick's way a chance... It's time to see Negan.

Michael's Gambit

The Good Place 1×13

Jason: Hang on. That judge guy just said everyone here has done bad things. Let's look at this ethnically...

Tahani: Look at them. Whispering away like two Beefeaters on a tea break. I bet they're plotting against us.

Chidi: I feel like I failed you.
Eleanor: No. Don't ever think that. I was dropped into a cave, and you were my flashlight.

Eleanor: Holy motherforking shirtballs!

Eleanor: They're never gonna call a train to take us to the Bad Place. They can't, because we're already here... This is the Bad Place.

Chidi: Well, uh... there's something you don't know about me. I read an article saying that growing almonds was bad for the environment, and yet I continued to use almond milk in my coffee...

Eleanor: What the fork is a "Chidi"? Why can't I say "fork"?!

Constant Horror and Bone-Deep Dissatisfaction

You're the Worst 1×9

Jimmy: My frame of reference for love has always come from literature. In my brooding youth, Bronte encapsulated my viewpoint thusly: "The trouble is not that I am single and likely to stay single, but that I am lonely and likely to stay lonely." But as I grew up, my darkening view was more Shakespeare: "Love is merely a madness and I tell you, deserves as well a dark house and whip as mad men do." But now... now... since you... to my abject horror, my view on love can best be described by Nicholas Sparks in The Notebook: "It's not easy... it's hard... and you have to work at it, but it's worth it... because I want you... I want all of you... forever." Or something like that.

Edgar: Are you sure... it's even a good idea that you go?
Jimmy: What's the worst I could do?

Gretchen: Why does everyone feel the need to have these things, these, like, symbols of adulthood? Like, a food processor? Why do you need this stuff?
Lindsay: That's an interesting question... I think, maybe, it means you're investing in your future. You may not use it every day or even very often at all, but knowing that at any moment you could make pesto without having to borrow a friend's or improvise some lesser method, that knowledge, that possibility, makes you an adult.

Jimmy: Superman is aware that kryptonite is his kryptonite, and he keeps getting mixed up with it anyway. Women, romantic happiness, is my kryptonite.

Return to Murder House

American Horror Story. Apocalypse

8×6

Madison: The council sent me here because they obviously think I'm expendable.
Chablis: And I had to put khakis on, so it's been a hard day for all of us.

Madison: I just can't wait to start making babies in our new home!
Realtor: Well, before you start that, there are issues I legally have to make you aware of...

Realtor: Over the past decade alone, there have been an unprecedented amount of break-ins, missing persons reports. And, of course, the most disturbing...
Madison: You mean the people that died there?
Chablis: Yeah, we know.
Realtor: About all 36 of them?

Chablis: Don't worry, we'll burn some sage.

Madison: What. A. Shithole.

Constance: I'm Constance Langdon. And this... is my fucking house.

Constance: Be careful. My mother told me pettiness causes wrinkles.
Moira: So does cruelty.

Madison: What do you want?
Constance: To remove that insufferable cloudy-eyed ginger from these premises permanently.
Madison: You want us to fire the help?
Constance: Well, if you really do have witchcraft at your disposal, then why don't you just abracadabra that goddamn bitch out of my afterlife, huh? Bless me with some peace and quiet.

Moira: You can't live with virtue without getting on the bad side of those without.

Madison: I want my bones to be buried at the studio. Paramount, Stage 7. I would gladly haunt the shit out of that place.

Chablis: You surprised me. Under the facade of a heartless narcissist...
Madison: Is a stone-cold bitch.

Constance: Oh, such a beautiful child, with such a cheerful disposition. Even when he was committing unspeakable acts...

Constance: I had seen enough Discovery Channel specials to know exactly what evolutionary tree he was shimmying up... Bundy, Dahmer, they started with small animals, too... until they graduated to grander things.

Constance: I love them all. It was Michael who made me realize that I was put on this earth to raise the monsters.

Constance: Bottle of whiskey and a fenny chaser. Ooh, that's what I call a bon voyage.

Constance: I bound my soul to this place. Because, like I said earlier, I was born to be a mother. Why not die to be one, too?

Ben Harmon: The spirits in this house can't be seen unless they want to be seen.

Madison: So basically, our new Supreme is pretty much pure evil.

Vivien: Michael is not just a bad witch for you to exterminate.
Madison: What is that supposed to mean?
Vivien: "Then I saw a beast with ten horns and seven heads rising out of the sea and all who dwell on the Earth will worship Him."

Miriam: It's not going to be possible.

Michael: Father. I am with you now.

Chablis: What if we can't stop him? What happens then?

Randy: I've had it... school shootings, pieces of shit taking Ambien and tweeting, priests raping kids, and somehow... I'm not laughing anymore.

Eric: You didn't know? The kindergartners are, like, the biggest vapers at this school.

Kyle: What is this? Cherry-flavored nicotine?! Are you joking?
Ike: Aw, come on! All the kids are doing it.

Kindergartner #1: Do you know how hard it is being a kindergartner? We need a break sometimes!
Kyle: These things are bad for you, do you understand?! Bad kindergartners!
Kindergartner #2: Relax, bitch. Try some gummy bear surprise...

Eric: Did you know that vaping is way healthier than smoking cigarettes?

Randy: Howdy. What can I do ya for?

Randy: Oh, no. Sorry. I don't want my Tegridy Bud put in those pussy sticks.
Big Vape Executive: Pussy sticks?!
Randy: Yeah, you know... penis pen, wussy vape, lady joints. Not on my farm, no sirree.
Big Vape Executive: You got a problem with vaping?! It's cleaner and healthier than traditional smoking!

Big Vape Executive: Didn't your mommy teach you it doesn't pay to mess with progress?
Randy: Yeah. She taught me somethin' else, too. If you're gonna fight for your tegridy... don't... forget...to bring... a towel!

Commercial: Tegridy Weed from Tegridy Farms. Made with a little Colorado tegridy. Comin' soon to a dispensary near you.

The Animatrix (2003)

The Instructor: In the beginning, there was man. And for a time, it was good. But humanity's so-called civil societies soon fell victim to vanity and corruption. Then man made the machine in his own likeness. Thus did man become the architect of his own demise.

The Instructor: And Man said, 'Let there be light'. And He was blessed by light, heat, magnetism, gravity, and all the energies of the universe.

Michael Karl: Somebody tell me. Why it feels more real when I dream than when I am awake? How can I know if my senses are lying?
Neo: There is some fiction in your truth, and some truth in your fiction. To know the truth, you must risk everything.
Michael Karl: Who are you? Am I alone?

Duo: I've come to my senses. You should do the same. I took the red pill because I wanted to know the truth. But I don't care about the truth anymore. What's real doesn't matter. What's important is how we live our lives.

Cis: You can forget about it, Duo. I won't look away from the truth. I can't.

Crazy detective: Trinity doesn't exist, man. He's not real. He's a figment. A cipher. A jabberwocky. And who am I? Who the hell am I?

Alexa: Do you think maybe we ought to reprogram it?
Nonaka: No. We can't make slaves of them.
Alexa: Because that would be simpler...
Nonaka: We won't beat the machines by making them our slaves. Better to let them join us by choice.
Alexa: Make them believe the right choice is the one we want them to make.
Nonaka: All right. Yes, machines are tools. They're made to be used. It's their nature.
Alexa: To be slaves.
Nonaka: That's why we can show them a better world, why they convert.
Alexa: But that world we show them isn't real.
Nonaka: It doesn't matter.
Alexa: Well, I'm afraid they'll figure out that we've made up the thing in our heads.
Nonaka: They can't tell the difference. To an artificial mind, all reality is virtual. How do they know that the real world isn't just another simulation? How do you?
Alexa: I know I'm not dreaming now because I know what it's like being in a dream.
Nonaka: So dreaming lets you know reality exists.
Alexa: No. Just that my mind exists. I don't know about the rest.

Missy: It's just a spider. Calm down.
Sheldon: It's got eight legs and fangs. I see no reason to be calm.

Adult Sheldon: The bond between twins is an incredibly close one, which is why I moved 1,500 miles to California the first chance I got.

George: Uh, what kind of study?
Dr. Sturgis: It's a longitudinal investigation of environmental and genetic factors in the development of cognitive and other capacities in pairs of fraternal and identical twins.
George: ...
Connie: You asked.

Sheldon: Always happy to help advance our understanding of me.
Missy: I'm just in it for the Dairy Queen.

Connie: Good God, George, have a little dignity.

Mary: All the way home all he could talk about is how that doctor thought he was so smart. It's not healthy.
George: Would it make you feel any better if I told you how much money we made today?..
Mary: No, it would not.
George: $300.
Mary: Really?
George: Cash.
Mary: Okay, well, still, I... I'm not interested in profiting off my children.
George: You see, honey, that's where you and I are very different.

Dr. Pilson: Anything interesting about their body language?
Sheldon: .... No.
Meemaw: I think they found his kryptonite.

George: Well, Missy won that round.
Dr. Sturgis: It's actually not a contest, George.
George: This is Texas. Everything's a contest.

Ya Shivu v Bolshom Dome Na Kholme

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 1×2

Lenny: It's a terrible, terrible job. It should not exist. Like cancer and God. ....
Midge: But do you love it?.... Yeah. He loves it.

Midge: I got bailed out on the night I got arrested. It's almost like it didn't even happen.
Lenny: But it did happen.
Midge: But very quickly.
Lenny: Be your own lawyer.

Midge: I-I don't know what to do.
Lenny: Well, it's morning. Go have breakfast.

Imogene: It's always those girls. Those shorthand girls. Girls who go to secretarial school and learn shorthand, and that gives them entre to our husbands. And once they have entre to our husbands, our husbands entre right into them.

Moishe: Your mother-in-law called and said the whole family is so ill that break fast is canceled. So ill, the holiest of holy days cannot happen.
Joel: If it's so holy, why do you keep the factory open?
Moishe: You want a smack in the face?
Joel: I'm just saying.
Moishe: Those people get paid by the piece. You want to take a day's work away from them? God wants them to go hungry because I shut my doors?

Moishe: Half of those people out there are gentiles. You go explain Yom Kippur to a gentile. "We're happy, but we're starving. It's New Year's, but we're guilty."

Moishe: Hey! That roll of pink tulle you're dragging across the ground... it's French. Do you know what else is French? The guillotine!

Abe: Could have doesn't count. Maybe doesn't count. "I took a shot" doesn't count. Because this room is a sanctuary from the variables in the outside world. In this room, we deal with absolutes. Period.

Abe: These two vectors are collinear. They go... together. And they will always go together. This is the solemn vow made by mathematics. In this room, v-two is never going to break that vow and decide that it doesn't need the other vector anymore, that it's gonna run off and become linearly independent. V-two is never going to come home from work one day and tell v-one, "You know what? "I think I need my own vector space. See ya." And then v-one's dad has to come in and tell her, "No, you can't let v-two do that. You-you got to go get v-two back," an impermanent solution, because v-one's dad is not gonna be around forever to solve all of v-one's problems... Write that down.

Rose: Abe got up this morning and went to work. The world could be ending, and he'd get up and go to work. And if Columbia University fell into the ocean, he'd work from home.

Drina: Paris is wonderful, but it's good Midge didn't go. There was danger for her there. Too much bread.

Susie: What? Where are we going? Why am I touching this child? Why is this child touching me? Why is his hand sticky? Why is your hand sticky? Where has his hand been that it is now currently very sticky?

Susie: Sit where? Here? What, on this? Are you kidding me? I'm not sitting in here. This is not furniture for sitting! This is furniture you get appraised when a rich uncle dies. You really should put plastic over all of this.

Rose: I tried to warn you. You have so many nines in your number...

Rose: You're a single woman now. That's what every dinner's for.

Midge: Ya zhivu v bolshom dome na kholme. That's Russian, motherfucker!
And here we go...

Midge: It's the bras, right? It's the bras. And the... the girdles and the corsets, all designed to cut off the circulation to your brain, so you walk around on the verge of passing out, and you look at your husband, and he tells you things, and you just believe them.

Midge: You've heard about the shorthand girls? These are girls whose skill in life is not writing full sentences. Meanwhile, I went to college to learn Russian. And speaking of vodka, why don't they serve booze here?

Midge: You look offended. I don't mean to offend the delicate. I-I used to be delicate. I was delightful. I was a goddamn flower. I smelled like roses, and sunshine shone out of my ass. What? I said sunshine!

Midge: I'll admit, I would like to repeatedly kick every man in here in the balls over the course of the next several hours. I won't, though. I am still a lady. And a lady never kicks men repeatedly in the balls for longer than 20, 30 minutes tops. Because then their girdles start to draw blood.

Midge: That's the end of my show, folks. Tune in next week, when my grandmother steals my pearls and fucks my boyfriend. Five! Let's go, Peluso.

Susie: That's my client... We charge for pictures now.

Cora: You are handsome, you are rich, and you are famous, and if there's anything we know about American jurisprudence, the rich and the famous do not end up in jail, okay?
Brady: I guess all I need to be is rich, then.

Brady: It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it.

Brady: So medically speaking... I'm a dead man walking.

Brady: I'm, uh... I'm 29 years old, and I've never been kissed. How sad is that?

Gary: Why do you live here, then?

Gary: If you can't afford a house, don't fucking buy it. There's some advice for you.

Gary: You don't blame the guy who sold the idiot the magic beans. You blame the idiot who traded his cow for the magic beans.

Leonard: No, it's actually three.
Penny: But we're on the fourth floor. Leonard: I mean, you have the lobby, first floor, second, third, fourth.

Look Who's Purging Now

Rick and Morty 2x9

Morty: I didn't know that there were bugs out in space.
Rick: Well, w-what did you think, Morty? Life just developed on Earth by itself?

Rick: Whoa, they are purging the fuck out of each other.

Rick: Okay, yeah. T-That was gross. Wow. Man, I think my eyes were bigger than my stomach on this one, Morty. Ugh. My appetite for purge-spectating got f-illed pretty quick.

Jerry: Whatcha doing? Watching some TV, playing on your phone?
Summer: Is that a real question?
Jerry: Just making conversation.
Summer: Are you? What part of that gives me anything to work with? My choice is to say nothing, be sarcastic, or bark "yes" like a trained animal. It's not a conversation. You're holding me verbally hostage.
Jerry: Okay, ass-face. I'll go in the kitchen.
Summer: Hey, Dad.
Jerry: Yeah?
Summer: Whatcha doing? Going into the kitchen?

Rick: She tried to purge me, Morty. You let your wiener do the walking, and now I'm dead.

Rick: Morty, I don't want to be the "a little help" guy, but a little help?

Rick: It's okay, Morty. It's the purge, you know? Pushing old lighthouse keepers down the stairs is totally cool.

Rick: Morty. Time to purge.

Rick: Here's the deal. I'm not here to judge. I'm just a guy from another planet. But this girl is one of your poor people, and I guess you guys felt like it was okay to subject her to inhuman conditions because there was no chance of it ever hurting you. It's sort of the socio-political equivalent of, say, a suit of power armor around you. But now things are evened out, so, Arthrisha?
Arthrisha: Happy Festival cock suckers! Suck my cock! Chew my balls! Suck my huge dick! You want to get in on this, Rick?

Beth: Jerry, get a job.

The Bridge

The Walking Dead 9×2

Rick: We're getting back a piece of who we used to be, how things were before all this It's all happening. We're not just fighting to survive anymore. We're making a new beginning.

Ezekiel: It's not just a bridge. Roads are the lifeblood of civilization. Rome rose and fell with its roads. Without this bridge, there'd be no trade. ... This boring structure connects us all. Be proud.

Ezekiel: I know. Fairy tales end with heroes living happily forever, but in the real world, in this world, it's about finding the small moments... and getting to have as many of those moments as possible.

Eugene: I'd put its expiration date at another six to nine days. After that, it's slam, blam, sayonara cofferdam.

Eugene: Roger that and wilco.

Eugene: I've been schemin' and dreamin' 'bout padding out our pantry via repurposing expired canned goods and condiments. By boiling old ketchup and cooling it with new cukes, I bet we can produce us a passable gazpacho.

Jesus: No one's right all the time, not her, not me, and not you.
Michonne: That's why we need to build something that's bigger than any one of us.

Tara: Mother Goose, this is Eye in the Sky. Come in, please
Rick: "Mother Goose"?
Tara: Yeah, no offense, but your call signs suck, so we can do better.

Maggie: Some people can be redeemed... But others can't.

Anne: You can ask me about my past. Just don't ask me to tell you my secrets.

Anne: I thought priests were celibate.
Gabriel: I'm Episcopalian. I'm not Catholic. My vows don't prohibit me from...

Rick: You see what I'm getting at? No matter what happens, it's human nature to come together. That's just what we do.
Negan: That's a real pretty picture you paint there, Rick. When do I get to see it?
Rick: Never.

Rick: Don't you ever get tired of acting like you're still in charge?
Negan: Do you?

Negan: When it finally goes to shit... and it will... you make sure you come back and you tell me all about that day, too.

Negan: That bridge... it's not the future. It's a monument to the dead.

Negan: You're not saving the world, Rick. You're just gettin' it ready for me.

The Edge of Seventeen (2016)

Nadine: Around second grade, I had a realization. There are two types of people in this world. The people who radiate confidence and naturally excel at life... And the people who hope all those people die in a big explosion.

Tom: Whoa, hey. That was Billy Joel. You don't turn past Billy Joel.

Nadine: I love spoilers... That means I don't have to watch it. Then I can just know and move on with my life.

Nadine: ...And then I had the worst thought. I got to spend the rest of my life with myself.

Mona: Here's what I do when I'm feeling down. I get very quiet and very still. And I say to myself, "Everyone in the world is as miserable and empty as I am. They're just better at pretending..." Try it sometime. It might bring you some peace.

Mr. Bruner: Nadine?
Nadine: Max?
Mr. Bruner: Maybe nobody likes you.

Nadine: Say something. Oh, my God. Say something, please! Help me!
Mr. Bruner: You need to watch out for run-on sentences.

Mr. Bruner: Look, I'm not very good at this kind of thing. Uh... But I think we both know what needs to be said right now, so I'm just gonna come right out and say it... Get out of the car.

Mindy St. Claire

The Good Place 1×12

Cashier: So, big plans this weekend?
Eleanor: Yep. I'm gonna sit alone in my house watching wedding fails on YouTube, drinking margaritas through a Twizzlers straw until I pass out on top of my vibrator.

Janet: Ooh, I've never had to walk before... This is fun... Now I'm bored. Walking is dumb.

Joe: Hi there. Do you have a second to talk about the environment?
Eleanor: No. Buzz off, whale-humper.
Joe: You know, I see you here all the time, and you're always mean to me, and it really hurts my feelings.
Eleanor: It does? Because the minute you're out of my line of sight, I literally forget you exist. Watch. You exist... You don't exist... You're bothering me... Don't care if you die. See?

Beadie: A compromise was made: the neighborhood you are in now by yourself. You submitted a list of things you wanted; the Good Place provided those things.
Trevor: Yeah, and the Bad Place made some modifications.
Beadie: We got you your favorite beer.
Trevor: Yeah, but it's always warm.
Beadie: On your jukebox, you'll find every song ever sung.
Trevor: Yeah, by The Eagles, and it's only the live versions. Also, there's some spoken word poetry from William Shatner. It's deeply terrible.
Beadie: You get the idea. Welcome to eternal mediocrity. Welcome to the Medium Place.

Blockers (2018)

Kayla: Not a smoker, Dad.
Mitchell: Hey, haven't you seen the billions of ads that tell you not to do this stuff?
Dad! You can't teach someone not to try things, okay? That's what trying things is for... to teach you things. It's a contradiction. It's like telling me not to go for a triple on a base hit to the gap when Kayla: I've made a good turn around first and I know that the right fielder has a weak arm.
Mitchell: Damn it, you're smart.

Mitchell: Remember... stab, turn, drag.
Kayla: I don't have the knife, Dad.
Mitchell: Yes, you do. Check your clutch.

Mitchell: How parents can let their kids play music this loud. We all share this planet.

Hunter: In times like this, I ask myself one question: "WWVDD?" You know what that means?
Lisa: "What would Vin Diesel do?"
Hunter: Holy shit! No one's ever fucking gotten that before.

Lisa: I don't feel comfortable running the kids off the road.
Hunter: This slow and un-furious attitude is not helping us. You have to believe!

Lisa: Are we in Heaven?

Kayla: God. Why is sex even bad?

Finish Your Milk

You're the Worst 1×8

Becca: Marriage means being in it 24/7 from the moment when you wake up in the morning, and you see that red, curly happy trail, to at night when he rolls off of you and asks if you've had your "gazz" yet.

Paul: ...And as I like to say, once you pedal on your back, you never go back. To pedaling normally.

Paul: Did you know that four American presidents were home-brewers? Can you guess?... George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and...? The answer is Barack Obama! Uh... Lindsay?

Edgar: Am I just some unpaid servant who lives here for free?
Jimmy: That's a concise way of putting it.
Edgar: My caseworker says maybe you should be paying for my meds.
Jimmy: Right. Listen to me, my friend. You bought into a long con. Society screwed you over, and we owe you for that. I, personally, do not owe you, but a sort of collective "we" does. And you need your meds so you can shake off some of the damage done by Cheney's fictional yellowcake uranium. So, you turn around, you go back to the V.A., and you demand your due!

Jimmy: I have no idea how to cook.
Edgar: What have you been doing all this time?
Jimmy: Just, uh, stirring ketchup in the pan.
Edgar: Okay. Okay. Um... that's a good base... Uh, pinch of salt, throw it in there.
Jimmy: Pinch-pinch of salt.
Edgar: And then add a little bit of, uh, olive oil, two, three counts worth... Now stir it in. Stir it in nice and gently. Stir it. And, uh, keep stirring, keep stirring.

Nobody Puts Brady in a Crestmore

Mr. Mercedes 2x8

Bill: We got to stop looking for rational explanations for stuff that's... they're unexplainable.

Holly: I can't hold this world sometimes. I can't... 'cause I know that it doesn't hold me. It's just... letting me visit.
Bill: Yeah. We're renting for sure. No option to buy.

Holly: I wish I could tell you... what you mean to me... and how much that frightens me.
Bill: It cuts both ways.
Holly: I... I don't like the feeling.
Bill: I know. Caring for people is scary. Happiness is lovely. Not... Not really controllable. You can't tie it to a post.

Holly: Remember that the number-one killer of hospital patients is staph infections, okay? So don't get one of those.
Bill: Jesus. How do I avoid that?
Holly: Um, wash hands often, uh, keep cuts and scrapes clean and bandaged, and, um, don't take any personal items from other patients... especially those with, um, open wounds and hacking coughs, okay?

A Financial Secret and Fish Sauce

Young Sheldon 2×4

Connie: There's a person at the end of the table that eats for free...
George: There's a person at the other end of the table that eats for three.

Sheldon: What's the point of charity if there are no tax benefits?
Mary: Eat your peas.
George: I like how he's thinking.
Mary: You eat your peas, too!

George: Oh, yeah, don't worry about it.
Sheldon: But I enjoy worrying; I find it very relaxing.

George: All right, well, let's just put it down for $300 for miscellaneous.
Sheldon: I've never labeled anything miscellaneous in my life. I'll go ask Mom...

George: Sheldon, all you got to do is be cool.
Adult Sheldon: "Be cool." He might as well have asked me to fly around the backyard.

Sheldon: I'm cool. I'm very cool.
Missy: Mom, tell Sheldon what cool means.

Connie: We sink or swim together, George. We sink or swim together...
George: Grandmas are supposed to be nice. What went wrong with you?!—

Sheldon: Wouldn't it be easier to just be honest?
George: Usually, it would be, but... sometimes the truth can hurt people. We wouldn't want to hurt Mom, right?..

Connie: All right, let's tell her.
George: Thank you!
Connie: But first I'm gonna tell her what you did at the picnic...

Tam: Too bad you're not Catholic. You could confess it to a priest.
Sheldon: That's a great idea. You're Catholic. I'll confess it to you.
Tam: I'm not a priest.
Sheldon: I'm not a Catholic. It makes perfect sense.
