Hector and the Search for Happiness

& Narrator: Once upon a time there was a young psychiatrist called Hector, who had a very satisfactory life. His world was tidy, uncomplicated. And he liked it that way. He took great comfort in its predictable patterns. Patterns, his girlfriend Clara was happy to maintain.

& Hector: No, no. I’m Hector. I am a psychiatrist.
Stressed German: Psychiatrist! You can help me?
    Hector: I think not!
Stressed German: But I want a penis.
Hector: A penis... You mean happiness!
Stressed German: Everybody want a penis, but you cannot hold a penis.
Hector: Yes, sorry. It’s elusive, yes. You can’t touch happiness.
Stressed German: You cannot touch a penis.

& Clara: I want a penis in my bottom of the heart.
Hector: No, no. You want happiness, from the bottom of your heart.
Clara: That is what I said. A penis.

& Hector: Far be it from me, and forgive me for asking, and I don’t mean to pry, but do you consider yourself as a happy person?

& «1. MAKING COMPARISONS CAN SPOIL YOUR HAPPINESS.»

& Edward: Where are you staying?
    Hector: The Marriot.
    Edward: The Marriott? For happy?

& Edward: You bust the god, you earn enough money, you retire, you do something you like. Or nothing at all.
Hector: And then you are happy?
Edward: Yeah. Or addicted, divorced or dead. What the hell... You pick a goal, you work towards it, makes you feel better. Just keep moving, that’s my motto... Maybe there is only one way to retire and be happy.
    Hector: And what’s that?
    Edward: Don’t retire!

& «2. A LOT OF PEOPLE THINK, HAPPINESS MEANS BEING RICHER, OR MORE IMPORTANT.»

& «3. MANY PEOPLE ONLY SEE HAPPINESS, ONLY IN THEIR FUTURE.»

& «4. HAPPINESS COULD BE THE FREEDOM TO LOVE MORE THAN ONE WOMAN AT THE SAME TIME.»

& «5. SOMETIMES, HAPPINESS IS NOT KNOWING THE WHOLE STORY.»

& Hector: When you’ve been a fugitive, you’ve been in prison for your beliefs, you’ve lost your family and loved ones... I mean, you’ve just been through so much. How is it you’re so happy?
Old Monk: Because I’ve been through so much.

& Hector: My search for happiness is one thing, but making it the goal just doesn’t work, does it?
Old Monk: Higher than that, Hector!
Hector: More important than what we are searching for, is what we’re avoiding. Like unhappiness. So, don’t make unhappiness not the goal.
    Old Monk: Higher than that!

& «6. AVOIDING UNHAPPINESS IS NOT THE ROAD TO HAPPINESS.»
Old Monk: You hold all the cards, Hector.

& Marie Louise: If you look at this plane, you’ll notice it’s quite old. That means it’s never crushed before. Should be quite reassuring.

& Marie Louise: You know, there is really only one question:
«7. DOES THIS PERSON BRING YOU PREDOMINANTLY: A) UP OR B) DOWN? SIDE EFFECTS MAY INCLUDE HAPPINESS.»

& «8. HAPPINESS IS ANSWERING YOUR CALLING.»

& «9. HAPPINESS IS BEING LOVED FOR WHO YOU ARE.»

& «10. SWEET-POTATO STEW!»

& Hector: I’m neutral, like Switzerland!
«11. FEAR IS IMPEDIMENT TO HAPPINESS.»

& African Boss: What’s this one? It’s been crossed out.
Hector: It says «The evil you do in this life could cost you your happiness in the next...» No, it doesn’t, I’m sorry, I made that up. It says: «11. HAPPINESS COULD BE THE FREEDOM TO LOVE TWO WOMEN AT THE SAME TIME.»

& «12. HAPPINESS IS FEELING COMPLETELY ALIVE.»

& «13. HAPPINESS, IS KNOWING HOW TO CELEBRATE.»

& Djamila: I am not afraid, Hector. People who are afraid of death, are afraid of life.

& Djamila: You have a real talent, you know.
    Hector: Not really my field.
Djamila: No, you misunderstand. «14. LISTENING IS LOVING.»

& Hector: You know what «smothering» is, Clara? It’s "s«mothering, with an «s»!
Clara: That’s the lamest fucking thing I have ever heard. And you get paid for this?

& Agnes: I have never felt so happy, really. Or exhausted, I mean. The chaos, sometimes it’s just out of control. But, you know, I have a job I love, and a husband I love, and two beautiful kids I love, a home I love. The only real shadow of my happiness is that when I tell myself it’s too good to last. And Hector, the marriage, whatever the marriage is, the marriage itself is never in question. And that makes me happy.

& «15. NOSTALGIA IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE.»

& Professor Coreman: We should concern ourselves not so much with the pursuit of happiness, but with the happiness of a pursuit.

& Hector: All of us, have the capacity to be happy.
Old Monk: Higher than that, Hector.
Hector: That we all have the right to be happy?.. Oh! I see. We all have an obligation to be happy.

& Phil: Hey, honey. What’s up?
Claire: Do you remember when summer meant fireflies and cutoff shorts and ice-cream trucks?
Phil: Well, one out of three. We’ll get our time. They’re all going away at some point, right?

Exodus: Gods and Kings

& Seti: I know you don’t believe in omens or prophecies... But I do believe.
    Moses: And I respect that.

& Hegep: Let me tell you something... about hebrews. They are a conniving, combative people. Do you know what «israelite» means... In their own language?.. «He who fights with God.»
Moses: «He who wrestles with God.» There is a difference.

& Moses: I can see you’re unconvinced, and that’s a problem. Because next to unrealistic belief lies fanaticism... And next to that, sedition, and next to that, revolution. And it all starts with the elders.

& Seti: It’s one of life’s more depressing ironies... That the men who crave power... are best fitted to acquire it, and least fitted to exercise it.

& Moses: I love everything what I know about you. And I trust in what I don’t.

& Zipporah: Who makes you happy?
    Moses: You do.
Zipporah: Where would you rather to be?
    Moses: Nowhere.
Zipporah: And when will you leave me?
    Moses: Never.
    Zipporah: Proceed.

& Zipporah: Is it good for our boy to grow up believing in nothing?
Moses: Is it bad to grow up believing in yourself?

& Moses: Do you believe me?
    Gershom: [ No. ]
Moses: Good for you. Don’t ever just say what people want to hear.

& Ramses: Who are you talking to?
    Moses: God... God.
    Ramses: Which God?

& Moses: Where have you been?
    Messenger: Watching you fail.
    Moses: You don’t need me.
    Messenger: Maybe not.
Moses: So what do I do? Nothing?
Messenger: For now... You can watch.
Ω Messenger? WTF?

& Moses: Do not be afraid! God is with us!

& Messenger: What do you think of this?
    Moses: I wouldn’t do it... If I didn’t agree.
Messenger: That’s true. I’ve noticed that from you. You’re not always agree with me.
Moses: Nor you with me. I’ve noticed.
Messenger: Yet here we are, still speaking. But not for much longer. A leader can falter... But stone... will endure.

& Messenger: These laws will guide them in your stead. If you disagree... You should put down the hammer.

& Will: If you gotta do something... you don’t want to, that you know is wrong, but you ain’t got no choice in it, are you goin’ to hell?
Nate: I don’t know. You ain’t got no choice, you ain’t got no choice. Most times, we got a choice.

Mr Warren: No, quite the opposite.
Justice Pike: If she bleeds she is not a witch?
Mr Warren: Not necessarily. The devil’s mark may be well hidden.
Justice Pike: Then we must keep pricking her till she do stop bleeding, at which time we will know that she is or is not a witch, possibly.
    Mr Warren: Correct.

& Mr Warren: Elizabeth Anne Gadge, you have been found guilty of witchcraft and are to be taken to a place of execution, where you will be burned at the stake until you are dead.     Rodrigo Borgia: Who killed his brother, Abel.
Mattai the Hebrew: Abraham begat Isaac.

Mattai the Hebrew: And God stayed his hand! So, here we are. All of us, children of Abraham. So I ask this father to embrace his son. Give him his sanction, his support, his love...
Rodrigo Borgia: His powder, his army...
    Cesare: His love! His love.

Monroe: First off, the plural is Blutbaden.

Big Driver

& Ramona Norvell: I can save you an hour easy heading back a different way. Scenic drive, singing squirrels... Whole bit.
Tess Thorne: I love me a shortcut.

& Tess Thorne: Let’s talk about murder and mayhem... As they are the flip side of the american dream.

& Lester: Welcome to nowhere.

& Gun Store Owner: I don’t sell guns. I sell peace of mind.

& Doreen: But there is one caveat...
Tess Thorne: What’s the caveat, Doreen?
Doreen: Well, it’s very simple, isn’t it? Don’t get caught.

& Tess Thorne: The first rule of gun ownership... Don’t put a bullet in the chamber that first falls under the hammer. You might accidentally shoot someone.

& Doreen: If I may interrupt, dear... As you know, I repeatedly tell the girls that, when solving crimes, we must never forget the cardinal truth about murderers... They often overlook the obvious.

& Tess Thorne: «Given that emotion and not logic is the key to all human behavior and to crime itself, said Doreen Marquis as the other Knitting Society members listened, I propose we fully change our investigative focus from forensic to psychological, from the crime to the perpetrator.»
    Doreen: I like this, dear.

Cameron: No, thanks. I’m in Florida. If I want to sweat more, I’d just move my arms.

Marco

Better Call Saul 1×10

& James McGill: I’m moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    Marco: Mexico? You skipped bail?
James McGill: New Mexico... You know, like, uh, Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner, you know?

& James McGill: I’m gonna work at his law firm, like, in the mailroom.
Marco: What? N-now you’re talking crazy, man. You just got out of jail. Now you want to go back?

& James McGill: Sorry I called you a pig fucker.

& James McGill: .....One little Chicago sunroof, and suddenly I’m Charles Manson?! And that’s where it all went off the rails. I’ve been paying for it ever since. That’s why I’m here!

& Slippin’ Jimmy: You’re buying, I’m selling.
    Marco: All right, then.

& Marco: You want me to give you $100 for a half-dollar!
Slippin’ Jimmy: I want you to give me $100 for an $800 coin.

& Marco: You’re my witness, okay? Facing West... My hairy ass.

& Slippin’ Jimmy: Can you keep a secret?.. Okay, his name is Idi Abbassi. He’s 27 years old. He’s a Nigerian prince, all right? He’s worth, conservatively, $400 million.....

One Watson, One Holmes

Elementary 3×19

& Holmes: You cannot chew gum in my home.
    Chest Wound: Seriously?
Holmes: Do I look like I’m joking?

& Chest Wound: On one side, you’ve got a group pretty much led by me. We like Everyone the way it is. We’re pranksters. We don’t have an ideology. We help the people we want to help, hurt the people we want to hurt, on, like, a case-by-case basis. The other side follows this guy «Species.» They want us to become a straight-up political movement. That means establishing parameters, aligning with the left, going against the right...

& Holmes: How are you?
    Watson: How am I?
Holmes: Well, I-I thought perhaps that, uh, silence was awkward, so I was attempting to fill it. ... Typically, you’re the one who lubricates these moments with conversation, so...
Watson: Well, I’m good if you are.

& Holmes: You know, there are several principal lines of inquiry when it comes to determining the motive for a murder. There’s cherchez la femme— look to the woman. ...
Petros: Rule 57 of the Internet: you will never have sex. I’m the exception. Pretty sure Species wasn’t getting any. Like, ever.
Holmes: Another line of inquiry is cui bono. Who benefits, hmm? A.K.A. follow the money.

& Watson: Is that a rainbow coming out of that unicorn’s butt?
Holmes: Yeah. That is the online profile picture of Pony Pyew Pyew, member of Everyone’s Inner Sanctum... and one of the finest hackers in the world.

& Watson: There must be thousands of pages here.
Holmes: 26 boxes, approximately 4,000 sheets a box— that’s roughly 104,000 sheets. The search will be exceedingly tedious; but one must, from time to time, outwork criminals as well as outthink them.

& Holmes: Your behavior has been troublingly incongruous of late.

& Holmes: That doesn’t work for me... Our relationship is predicated on one Holmes and one Watson. It’s a delicate homeostasis, and it doesn’t function properly if there are two Holmeses and no Watsons.

& Watson: What are you doing?
Holmes: I’m tapping «Wake up, Watson» in Morse code.

& Capt. Gregson: Look, you bring me solid evidence, establish probable cause, I’ll put cuffs on God himself. But until then, there’s nothing I can do.

& Watson: I thought it would be good for me to connect with my fellow humans.

I’m a licensed pilot, took karate in Tokyo. I lectured on economics at Yale. I can memorize the front pages of the New York Times in five minutes and repeat it back to you in five weeks. I was the National Golden Gloves champion three years in a row. I’m fluent in four languages and can wrestle with a menu in five more...

& Nick Wild: Every high school student knows there’s no such thing as organized crime in America. Every elementary school student knows that if organized crime ever dreamt of invading, the last city they would come to would be Vegas. And every kindergarten student knows that if the mob ever did to town, the last hotel to be tainted would be the Golden Nugget. Shit, Holly, I mean, even their fucking showgirls can rip the phonebook in half.

Nick Wild: Never hit over half a mil before. I don’t know why I’m not more excited. Maybe it’s because I never dared think it would happen. That make sense?
    Cyrus Kinnick: Kinda.

& Cyrus Kinnick: You’re leaving town?

& Cyrus Kinnick: Guess you haven’t liked Vegas much, huh?
Nick Wild: You’re not supposed to like Vegas. It’s just this creeping virus people catch sometimes... Sweet dreams.

& Nick Wild: I know now what I really need... «Fuck you» money. Enough so I’ll never have to come back here. Freedom. That’s what «fuck you» money is.

& Cyrus Kinnick: I’m only here to give you a present of gratitude of everything you taught me.

Life Is Beautiful

& Guido: What a place here! Pigeons fly, women fall from the sky. I’m moving here!

& Oreste: Hard, hard times!
Guido: They’re hard times? Why, what are your political views?
Oreste: Benito! Adolph! Be good! What did you say?
Guido: I said, how are things going? Good-bye, then.

& Guido: 45 degrees, even 50, 55. 90 degrees. A right angle. 180. How far do I bow down? 180 degrees? Like this?
Uncle Eliseo: Think of a sunflower. They bow to the sun. But if you see some that are too bowed down... it means they’re dead!

& Uncle Eliseo: You’re serving. You’re not a servant. Serving is a supreme art. God is the first servant. God serves men but he’s not a servant to men.

& Guido: Were you sleeping?
    Ferruccio: Of course I was.
Guido: You fell asleep while talking to me! How did you do that?
    Ferruccio: Schopenhauer.
    Guido: Who?
Ferruccio: Schopenhauer says that with willpower, you can do anything. «I am what I want to be.» Right now I want to sleep, so I was saying to myself... «I’m sleeping, sleeping,» and I fell asleep.

& Guido: I forgot to tell you.
    Dora: Go ahead.
Guido: You can’t imagine how much I feel like making love to you. But I’ll never tell anyone, especially not you. They’d have to torture me to make me say it.
    Dora: Say what?
Guido: That I want to make love to you — not just once, but over and over again! But I’ll never tell you that. I’d have to be crazy to tell you. I’d even make love to you now... right here for the rest of my life.

& Guido: Is that your horse? What a sight! What did they write on him? «Achtung, Jewish horse.»
Uncle Eliseo: The usual barbarians, vandals. It’s sad. What nonsense. «Jewish horse»!
Guido: Don’t get upset. They just did it to—
Uncle Eliseo: They didn’t do it «to.» They did it «to.» You’ll have to get used to it, Guido. They’ll start with you too.
Guido: With me? What could possibly happen to me? The worst they can do is undress me, paint me yellow and write... «Achtung, Jewish waiter...» I didn’t even know this horse was Jewish.

& School Principal: Imagine that! Third grade. Listen to this problem. I remember it because it shocked me. A lunatic costs the state four marks a day. A cripple, four and a half marks. An epileptic, three marks and a half. Considering that the average is four marks a day... and there are 300,000 patients, how much would the state save... if these individuals were eliminated?
    Dora: I can’t believe this!
School Principal: That was my exact reaction. I can’t believe a seven-year-old child... has to solve this kind of equation. It’s a difficult calculation. Proportions, percentages. They need at least some algebra to do those equations. That’s high school material for us.
Rodolfo: No, all it takes is multiplication. You said there are 300,000 cripples? 300,000 times four. If we killed them all, we’d save 1 ,200,000 marks a day. It’s easy!
School Principal: Exactly! Bravo. But you’re an adult. They make seven-year-old children do this in Germany! It’s truly another race.

& Joshua: «No Jews or Dogs Allowed.» Why do all the shops say, «No Jews Allowed»?
Guido: Oh, that. «Not Allowed» signs are the latest trend! The other day, I was in a shop with my friend the kangaroo, but their sign said, «No Kangaroos Allowed,» and I said to my friend, «Well, what can I do? They don’t allow kangaroos.»
Joshua: Why doesn’t our shop have a «Not Allowed» sign?
Guido: Well, tomorrow, we’ll put one up. We won’t let in anything we don’t like. What don’t you like?
    Joshua: Spiders.
Guido: Good. I don’t like Visigoths. Tomorrow, we’ll get sign: «No Spiders or Visigoths Allowed.»

& Joshua: How many points did we get today?
Guido: Fifty. Forty-eight. They took two points away from me because... I tripped while I was... playing hopscotch. We... Laughed like crazy today! I died laughing! Boy, did I have fun! I can’t wait to start all over again tomorrow! Hopscotch, tug-of-war and ring-around-the-rosy. Every game. I don’t even remember all of them. «You guys are obsessed! Stop! I’m tired!» I said.

& Joshua: They make buttons and soap out of us.
    Guido: What are you saying?
Joshua: They burn us all in the oven.
    Guido: Who told you that?
Joshua: A man was crying. He said they make buttons and soap out of us.
Guido: You fell for that? Again? I thought you were a sharp boy— cunning, intelligent. Buttons and soap out of people? That’ll be the day! You believed that? Just imagine. Tomorrow morning, I wash my hands with Bartolomeo... a good scrub. Then I’ll button up with Francesco. Darn it all! Look! I just lost Giorgio! Does this look like a person? Come on! They were teasing you! And you fell for it!

& Mona: If you cannot argue constructively, what will Mother do?
    Allison: Destroy our video games.
    Mona: Andrew...?
    Andrew: And the gaming system.
Allison: Burn it while we watch.
Mona: That’s right. Don’t forget what happened to your Legos.

& Don: So, what kind of jobs do you give? Had.

& Mona: What’s his name?
    Don: ... Dusty.
Mona: Not another Mexican, is it? You know what Daddy says, «Hire a Jew.» All they do is make money.

& Don: You’re just being paranoid.
Mona: Well, paranoia is just total awareness.

& Mona: That should be enough to fell a small village.
    Don: Why so much?
Mona: Well, you never know about dosage. Sometimes the weather... can make the body absorb the drug differently. I saw it on an episode of First 48.

& Don: To wives and sweethearts! May they never meet.

& Mona: You’re gonna need to pick up some more trash bags from Costco tomorrow.I’d write it down for you, but I’m just covered in that girl. Just distasteful.

& Benji: What’s wrong with those people?!
    Murphy: Monsters.

& Don: What do you mean, «get rid of»?

The Wars to Come

Game of Thrones 5×1

& Witch: Everyone wants to know their future... until they know their future.

& Tyrion: Do you know what it’s like to stuff your shit through one of those airholes?
Varys: No, I only know what it’s like to pick up your shit and throw it overboard.

& Varys: My lord?
Tyrion: I don’t think I am anymore. A lord. Are you a lord if you kill your father?

& Varys: We are talking about the future of our country.
Tyrion: The future is shit. Just like the past.

& Gilly: Shouldn’t you be training, too?
Sam: Well, I’m hardly a new recruit. How many brothers can say that they’ve killed a white walker and a Thenn? I might be the first in history.

& Davos: Some of the Night’s Watch feel you have too much affection for the wildlings.
Jon Snow: They were born on the wrong side of the Wall. That doesn’t make them monsters.

& Lord Baelish: He has other gifts. The gift of a great name. Sometimes that’s all one needs.

& Brienne: All I ever wanted was to fight for a lord I believed in. The good lords are dead and the rest are monsters.

& Varys: I didn’t do it for you. I did it for the Seven Kingdoms. We are talking about the future of our country.
Tyrion: A drunken dwarf will never be the savior of the Seven Kingdoms.
Varys: I don’t believe in saviors. I believe men of talent have a part to play in the war to come.

& Varys: Any fool with a bit of luck can find himself born into power. But earning it for yourself, that takes work.

& Varys: ...And you have compassion.
Tyrion: Compassion? Yes. I killed my lover with my bare hands. I shot my own father with a crossbow.
Varys: I never said you were perfect.

& Hizdahr zo Loraq: A dragon queen with no dragons... is not a queen.

& Jon Snow: I think you’re making a terrible mistake.
Mance Rayder: The freedom to make my own mistakes was all I ever wanted.

& Mance Rayder: I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.

& Raj: What if he’s in a Beatles cover band?.. I’m just saying, if he’s got your nose and haircut, he’d make a killer Ringo.

& Amy: Can you please pass the salt?
Sheldon: Sure. It’s not like I was invited to Richard Feynman’s house and have anything better to do.
Amy: Is this how the rest of the night’s going to be?
Sheldon: I don’t know the future.

& Sheldon: I have a work-around. There you go... As far as you’re concerned, I’m smiling.

& Howard: Bernadette, weird things are happening out here!

& Penny: I think I started to suspect it was a bad movie when I looked at the script and saw the title, Serial Ape-ist 2:... Monkey See, Monkey Kill.
Wil Wheaton: Uh, spoiler alert: after the monkey sees, it kills.

& Sheldon: Do you think there comes a point in life when it stops feeling bad to be left out of things?
Amy: Probably not. It’s an evolutionary advantage to be included in group activities.
Sheldon: You know what? I used to be a fan of evolution, but I’ve since evolved, and now I think it’s dumb.

& Sheldon: I can just picture them all right now at Feynman’s house, probably discussing Schrodinger and at the same time, not discussing Schrodinger... See? They’re missing out on hilarious jokes like that.
Amy: And at the same time, not.

& Leonard: I’m always excited for you! I’m excited that you found this new job where you’re making decent money.
Penny: Decent? I make twice what you make!
Leonard: Wait, twice?! Like, «times two» twice?
Wil Wheaton: For those of you at home, Leonard just found out his fiancée makes way more money than he does. Let’s listen.

& Amy: Amazing.
Sheldon: I know. And this isn’t the printout. This is my real face.

& Josh: So, I have to ask... was the robot sexy?
Howard: It was actually just a mechanical hand...
Josh: ’Cause that’s all you need, right?
    Howard: You are my brother.
