The Ol' Mexican Spinach

Two and a Half Men 12×1

& Walden: What decays in Vegas stays in Vegas.

& Alan: God, you know what I love about Halloween? You can put «slutty» in front of any job position, and it becomes a costume. Slutty nurse, slutty librarian, slutty lunch lady...

& Alan: At least I took a chance with my costume. I mean, Elvis and zombies... It’s real original. Next year, it’s vampire Obama. «Yes, we can!»

& Walden: I haven’t exactly been successful in love. It’s like I’m running JavaScript and women are running HTML5... Talking like that is part of the problem, isn’t it?

& Walden: Do you know how long it takes to get a baby?
Alan: Well, I know it takes, uh, five months of mood swings and four months of not wanting to be touched.

& Walden: You just said that I’m more than qualified.
Allison: And you are. But you’re a single guy, and the system is really geared towards married couples.
    Walden: That’s racist.
    Allison: Uh, no, it’s not.
    Walden: Then it’s sexist.
    Allison: Nope.
Walden: Well, it’s some kind of «sist.»

& Walden: You are... always there for me.
Alan: Yeah, and-and you’re always there for me.
Walden: We’re best friends. What if we were more than friends?
    Alan: Like... super friends?
Walden: Alan Harper, will you marry me?

Lucifer 1×5

& Lucifer: Mmm, dangerous. Lucifer likes.
Mazikeen: You were shot and you bled. No sharp objects until we find out why.

& Chloe: That wack job’s gonna totally get me killed.

& Lucifer: She gets what she wants, and I get what I want... a nice juicy gang war.
Chloe: You mean you offered to help prevent a gang war, right?
Lucifer: Tomato, tom-ah-to. But, see, that’s why we make such great partners. The «he said, she said» of it all. The yin-yang, the fireworks...

& Chloe: «Deal with the Devil»? Come on, give me a break.
Lucifer: No, people come to me to ask for favors, and more often than not, I’m happy to oblige.
    Chloe: What do you get?
Lucifer: Well, sometimes, I have something in mind, but, usually, ... it’s simply to be repaid at a later date. A devilish IOU, if you will.
Chloe: Who would take a deal like that?
    Lucifer: They all do.

& Mazikeen: This is my favorite place in the city. Look at them on their laptops, writing the next great screenplay, torturing themselves with dreams they know, deep down, they will never achieve... Reminds me of home.

& Dr. Linda: Hello? Is anybody there? I know Krav Maga!

& Lucifer: No, no. I-I can’t be held responsible for what happens after I give someone a favor. I mean, if there’s one thing the Devil knows, it’s that people need to take responsibility for their own bad behavior.

& Mazikeen: Ass saved. You’re welcome. His ass, not yours.

& Chloe: I think I just figured it out, why you do these favors... It’s about power. It makes you feel superior. In control. You’re addicted to creating chaos and seeing where the chips fall, to hell with the consequences. It’s like you have some kind of god complex.
Lucifer: I most certainly do not!

& Lucifer: Olivia got what she wanted, and I got what I wanted.
Chloe: Oh, don’t say it. Come on, don’t say it.
Lucifer: I am now... an official civilian consultant for the LAPD.

Who Is That Masked Man?

Elementary 4×14

& Holmes: «Nicolette»?
Watson: Everyone within 100 miles of Montreal has a sexy French name. Would’ve been suspicious if I didn’t.

& Mr. Holmes: It’s impossible.
Holmes: There is a vast gulf between «impossible» and «impossible to imagine.»

& Holmes: I assure you there’s no such thing as a master of disguise. If there was, I’d be one myself.
Det. Bell: Of course you would.
Holmes: You scoff, but I did drama at school. I mastered stage makeup. I was quite adept with prosthetics and wigs, but I learned that they have their limits. A plan to infiltrate a dining club in the guise of a loathed rival was a spectacular failure.

& Watson: You slept.
Holmes: Yes, I’m human. It is required periodically.

& Watson: I’m giving myself an «I», for «Incomplete».

Cobbler

Better Call Saul 2×2

& Saul: Must be metric.

& Mike: Your baseball cards?

& Mike: I think what we have here now is a carrot-and-stick situation.
Nacho: Oh, yeah? This the stick? Hmm? You coming here, threatening my family? Huh? ’Cause you’re gonna need a bigger stick, old man.
Mike: I’m not here to threaten your family. And the name of the stick is Tuco Salamanca.

& Saul: James McGill.
Mike: It’s Ehrmantraut. You still morally flexible? If so, I might have a job for you.
    Saul: Where and when?

& Saul: We all have our secrets, don’t we? And who among us is without sin? But those sins aren’t all of the criminal variety, and neither are Mr. Wormald’s, okay?

& Saul: Squat cobbler.
    Detective 1: What’s a s-squat cobbler?
Saul: Squat cobbler. You know what squat cobbler is.
    Detective 1: No, I don’t... I don’t know what a squat cobbler is.
Detective 2: No, me neither. What is it?
Saul: What? And you two guys are cops? Hoboken squat cobbler... Full moon moon-pie. Boston cream splat... Seriously? Simple-Simon-the-ass-man. Dutch apple ass. Guys, am I not speaking English here?
Detective 1: What the hell is a squat cobbler?!
Saul: It’s when a man sits in pie! He sits in a pie! And he... he wiggles around. Maybe it’s like Hellmann’s mayonnaise. It has a different name west of the rockies. I don’t know. But, uh, technically, he does a crybaby squat, so there’s tears, which makes it more specialized. Not all pie sitters cry. But I’m gonna tell you something... This guy is a regular Julianne Moore once he gets the waterworks cranked up.

& Detective 2: Pies? What? Like apple?
Saul: Guys, I’m not the filmmaker here, all right? Banana cream. I... uh, peach. Oh, and there... And there is a costume involved.
Detective 1: You got to be shitting us.

& Dan: So, uh, we’re good, right?
Saul: Yeah. Great. There is, however, one little, tiny hanging Chad...
    Dan: Well, what? What Chad?
Saul: You’re gonna have to make a video...

& Kim: How the hell did you come up with that? If you gave me a million years, I still would not have come up with that.
Saul: The muse. She speaks through me. I am but a humble vessel.

& Kim: You fabricated evidence?!
    Saul: I made a video.

& Kim: Jimmy, this could really hurt you. If they find out, if you get caught...
Saul: It... they’re never gonna find out.
Kim: Seriously? You sound like every dumb criminal out there. If you keep this up, they will find out. For what, Jimmy?! What is the point?

Rebecca Grinch: I’m building a body of work. I’m following in the path of my Christmas heroes: The Grinch, the Sticky Bandits, Hans Gruber from Die Hard.

& Chris: She Home Alone’d me!

& Isaac: Who’s that guy?
    Betsy: What guy?
Isaac: The guy on the cross.
    Betsy: Jesus.

& Betsy: Don’t throw up! Don’t you throw up here! Swallow it like a girl would. Swallow it! Did you do it? Let me see your mouth.

& Betsy: Is it still happening?
    Betsy’s Mom: It’s still happening a little.

& Isaac: We did not kill Jesus! We did not do that!

& Ethan: Miley Cyrus, this is the nicest thing that anyone’s ever done for me!
Miley Cyrus: You gotta stop calling me Miley Cyrus.
Ethan: What should I call you?
Miley Cyrus: Hannah... Just kidding. I’m drunk. Let’s do this thing!

& Mr. Green: About 20 years ago... I read The Great Gatsby. I love that book. Movie’s all right, 3D gives me a headache... but I’m a sucker for Leo.

& Isaac: It’s harder to stay friends with people when you’re older. You have so much of your own shit going on.

& Ethan: Just pretend I’m saying it right, if you could.

& Chuck: What motivates him. Fears. Goals. Scars... He has a weak point, and we need to twist a knife in it.

& Chuck: This is bigger than you. It’s bigger than me. He runs more money than the GDP of a European nation. He’s untouchable, and I have him dead to rights.

& Bryan: The courts keep moving the goalposts. Yeah, I know what they tell themselves... «Capitalism is under siege.» All those guys think if you can’t prove they did the murder, then they’re not a killer... They’re only players ’cause they rigged the game.

& Chuck: You just blew up your family... for Bobby Axelrod?
«Dollar» Bill Stearn: I’m Keyser Söze, motherfucker.

& Wendy: You two just sniffed each other one day and decided you didn’t like the smell. So now you think you have to do this thing, but you don’t. You don’t have to do it.

& Bach: It won’t really hurt you, grand scheme, other than emotionally. It’ll seem like a win to them, and they stop. Give them more time, who knows what they’ll find?
Axelrod: I didn’t do anything that anybody else in my business doesn’t do! I just did it better.

& Axelrod: Since when do I take the easy way out?
Lara: This isn’t some stock play.
Axelrod: It’s no different. It’s all about tolerance and risk. Look, you don’t win, you don’t get to where I am without tolerating a lot of risk.
    Lara: We. Where we are.

& Chuck: It’s a cardinal rule... you don’t trust your career in the hands of a jury of 12 random crazy people who might decide a case based on a wink and a smile and not the law, which they can’t fucking understand in the first place.

Now, that there is a criminally underrated grain that could change the game with our food situation from scary to hunky-dunky... I’m talking standability, drought tolerance, grain-to-stover ratio that is the envy of all corns... Think about it...
    Daryl: .... Thanks.

& Rick: Today’s the day.
    Daryl: Uh-huh.

Room

& Ma: What you see on TV, those are pictures of real things, of real people. It’s real stuff.
    Jack: Dora’s real, for real?
Ma: No, that’s a drawing. Dora is a drawing. But other people, they have faces like us. Those are pictures of real things, and all the other stuff you see on there, that’s real, too. That’s real oceans, real trees, real cats, dogs.
Jack: No way. Where would they all fit?

& Ma: Jack, the world is so big. It’s so big, you wouldn’t even believe it. And Room is just one stinky part of it.
Jack: Room’s not stinky! Only when you do a fart.

& Jack: Are we on another planet?
Ma: Mm-mm. Same one, just a different spot.

& Jack: The world’s like all TV planets on at the same time... So I don’t know which way to look and listen. There’s doors and more doors, and behind all the doors, there’s another inside, and another outside, and things happen, happen, happening. It never stops. Plus, the world’s always changing brightness and hotness, and there’s invisible germs floating everywhere.
When I was small, I only knew small things, but now I’m five, I know everything.

& Ma: You know what happened to them?
    Jack: No.
Ma: Exactly. Nothing. Just lived their life and nothing happened.

& Jack: There’s so much of place in the world. There’s less time, because the time has to be spread extra thin over all the places, like butter. So all the persons say, «Hurry up. Let’s get going. Pick up the pace. Finish up now...»

& Grandma: We all help each other stay strong. No one is strong alone. You know, you and your mom, you help each other through, don’t you?
    Jack: Yep.
Grandma: And you and me, you and Leo, Leo and me. We all have the same strong.

& Ma: I’m not a good enough Ma.
    Jack: But you’re Ma.
    Ma: .... I am.

& Pat: So a black hole is actually not black?
Mike: Well, you know, the accepted term now is African-American hole. .... No, they’re... they’re... they’re not, technically, black.

& Ralph: I should like to do something for her. I should like to make her rich.
Mr. Touchett: What do you mean by rich?
Ralph: I call people rich when they’re able to meet the requirements of their imagination.

& Osmond: I’m sure you’re never horrid.
Isabel: Not even when I lose my temper?
Osmond: You don’t lose your temper, you find it. And that must be beautiful.

The Stanford Prison Experiment

    Christopher Archer: Nobody likes guards.

& Dr. Phil Zimbardo: Well, guys, I think we have our prisoners and our guards.

& Dr. Phil Zimbardo: .... And from this point forward, you should never refer to this as a study or an experiment again.

& Jacob Harding: All right, listen up. From now on, you will be known as Prisoner 8612 and only as 8612. And you will, at all times, refer to us as Mr. Correctional Officer. You got it?

& Dr. Phil Zimbardo: We’re trying to strip away their individuality... Make them uniform, feminize them... Yes. Feminize them. Take away all the things that make them them. You see, we’re trying to understand how an institution affects an individual’s behavior. We’re trying to do something... We’re trying to do something good.

& Anthony Carroll: Nobody steps in?

& Mike: Should we step in? Phil?
Dr. Phil Zimbardo: No. Let the guards figure it out. Let’s see where it goes.

Father MacAllister: It’s not a trick question, son...
    819: It’s 819.
Father MacAllister: And what steps are you taking to secure your release?

& 819: They think I’m a bad prisoner, but I’m not, I swear I’m not!
Dr. Phil Zimbardo: Hey. Hey. You’re not even a prisoner at all... And that’s not a prison. It’s a hallway... With a bunch of empty offices in the basement of Jordan Hall. You’re free to go. Okay?

& Jesse: You know what? It was an experiment, and I went along with it, but I really hate myself right now.
Dr. Phil Zimbardo: You did nothing wrong. That was just protocol.
Jesse: Protocol? Back in that room, I became everything I’ve hated for so long, and I let it happen. And I enjoyed it. You can’t possibly understand how it makes me feel.

& Mike: We have become part of this experiment, whether we like it or not, and frankly, I don’t even think that we can call this an experiment anymore. It’s a demonstration, and... part of me thinks that we already have the results that we were looking for.

Daniel Culp: No, I do. I do know that you’re a nice guy.
Christopher Archer: Then why do you hate me?
Daniel Culp: Because I know what you can turn into.
Christopher Archer: If you were in my position, what would you have done?

& Daniel Culp: I don’t think I would have been as, uh... I don’t believe I would have been as inventive as you. I don’t think I would have applied as much imagination to what I was doing...

& Christopher Archer: Yes, I was running experiments of my own. ... I wanted to see just what kind of verbal abuse people can take before they start objecting, before they start lashing back. And it really surprised... It really surprised me that nobody said anything to stop me. Nobody said, «Come on, man. You... You can’t say those things to me. Those things are sick.» Nobody said that. And nobody questioned my authority at all. And it really shocked me. I-I started to get... I started to abuse people so much. I started to get so profane. And still, people didn’t say anything.

Lucifer 1×4

& Chloe: I want to shoot you.
Lucifer: Tease. Do it. I’m immortal, remember?

& Dan: What in God’s name are you doing here?
Lucifer: Nothing in His name. Here on my own, actually.

& Lucifer: Never been thrown out of anywhere before in my life. Well, except for Heaven, of course.

& Dr. Linda: People don’t have power over us. We give it to them.

& Chloe: When Hell freezes over, Lucifer.
Lucifer: I can arrange that, actually.

& Chloe: I promise you, if anyone here hurt your sister, I’ll find them.
Lucifer: And I’ll punish them. Any method you prefer. Nice solid flogging. Get the ol’ swamp nuts in a vice, you know.

& Carver: We are biological machines. We... are warriors. We... are players! Gentlemen, we are animals. Men are the wolves, and women... are the fluffy bunnies. So we must prepare ourselves for the hunt.

& Chloe: Do you honestly think you can just ask people to have sex with you and they will?
Lucifer: Well, I usually don’t have to ask, actually.

& Lucifer: You’re right. Sorry. Let’s find the girl. Okay? Sex later. Kidding. Sort of.

& Chloe: You’re not doing this alone.
Lucifer: Afraid so. I promised, no police. A deal’s a deal, especially one with the Devil.

& Chloe: Okay, let’s say you really are the Devil. All-powerful, immortal, blah, blah, blah. Does that mean you don’t feel pain at all?
Lucifer: Hmm. I like this line of questioning...

& Carver: She’s right. I-I deserve it.
Lucifer: No, you don’t. Chlamydia, the clap, raging case of crabs... that’s what you deserve, not death.

& Lindsay: Please don’t hurt me!
Lucifer: Why does everyone say that before they’re punished?

& Chloe: Who are you? What are you?

& Lucifer: And... call me Lucifer.
    Lieutenant: Lucifer.

& Chloe: I thought you didn’t lie.
Lucifer: I don’t. But I don’t always tell the whole truth.

No Way Out

The Walking Dead 6×9

& Savior: If you have to eat shit... best not to nibble. Bite, chew, swallow, repeat. It goes quicker.

& Rick: All right, new plan.

& Enid: When I wanted to run... you said, "That's how you lose people... even after they're gone." What the hell does that mean?
Glenn: People you love... they made you who you are. They're still part of you. If you stop being you, that last bit of them that's still around inside, who you are... it's gone.

& Alfa Wolf: You need to know it's safer out there than it is in here.

& Carol: I should've killed you. I should've.

& Gabriel: We've been praying... together. Praying that God will save our town. Well, our prayers have been answered. God will save Alexandria... because God has given us the courage to save it ourselves.

& Rosita: Eugene, you don't have to.
Eugene: That's incorrect. I do. No one gets to clock out today. And, hell, this is a story people are gonna tell.

& Rick: Today... I saw what they could do, what we could do, if we work together. We'll rebuild the walls. We'll expand the walls. There will be more. There's gotta be more. Everything Deanna was talking about... is possible. It's all possible. I see that now.

& Rick: I want to show you the new world, Carl. I want to make it a reality for you. Please, Carl... let me show you. Plea-- please, son, don't die.

Σ Epic. But such a massacre? Leaving the ballast behind?

Babylon

The X-Files 10×5

& Scully: You know that prophecies like this have been going on for centuries. Failed prognostications of doom, failed prophecy, even in the Bible.
Mulder: Yeah, God told Adam that if he ate the forbidden fruit he’d die, and he lived 930 years. Top that.
Scully: You know that didn’t literally happen, right?
Mulder: I’m just sayin’. It’s your book.

& Special Agent Miller: Hello? Anyone down here?
Scully: Nobody but the FBI’s Most Unwanted.
    Mulder: ???
Scully: I’ve been waiting 23 years to say that.
    Mulder: How’d it feel?
    Scully: Pretty good.

& Mulder: He seemed like a bright young man.
Scully: She calls him «Miller...» Hmm.

& Special Agent Einstein: You think anyone takes the X-Files seriously? That’s why they got them stuck down in that basement office. I pity that poor Agent Scully.
Special Agent Miller: That’s, like, my dream assignment.
Einstein: No self-respecting scientist would spend a career toiling away in obscure realms of science fiction.
Miller: Why else would she do it?
Einstein: She’s clearly in love with him.
Miller: You spent all of five minutes with them. How do you know that?
Einstein: Nothing else would explain it.
Miller: Maybe he values her open mind.
Einstein: Maybe she challenges his BS.

& Mulder: I-I don’t do woo woo.

& Einstein: Please enlighten me, Agent Mulder, how nine years of college, three degrees, and two years at Quantico has left me such a simpleton.
Mulder: Not a simpleton. A mugwump.
Einstein: I resent that characterization, and I don’t even know what it means.
Mulder: It means sit down and shut up.
Einstein: You talk to Agent Scully like that?
Mulder: Only when she’s being a mugwump.

& Mulder: A-Agent Einstein? Agent Einstein, tell him.
Einstein: Tell him what, Agent Mulder?
Mulder: What were were doing was under your medical supervision, all on the up and up.
Einstein: It was until it wasn’t.
Mulder: Well, it’s not like it was volitional.
Skinner: What was it, Agent Mulder?
Mulder: It was the Magic Mushrooms. Maybe I took too much.
Einstein: Maybe you didn’t take enough.

& Mulder: Well, you were there, too. And you were 50 shades of bad.

& Miller: It was all you and Agent Mulder.
Einstein: Remarkably, I did nothing. And, remarkably, it worked.Although I’m at a loss
in explaining it.
Miller: Maybe some things are unexplainable, Agent Einstein...

& Einstein: The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious, the source of all true art and science.
    Miller: That’s... beautiful, Einstein.
Einstein: Yes, Einstein. That’s who said it, Miller.

& Einstein: Although something is clearer to me now, as a result of the experience. The value of an open mind? The nature of reality. I’m now convinced that words and ideas do have weight, the weight to move people to do the most psychotic things.

& Scully: Wonders never cease with you.

& Mulder: I saw things, though, Scully. Powerful things. I saw deep and unconditional love.
Scully: I saw things, too. I witnessed unqualified hate that appears to have no end.
Mulder: Yeah. But how to reconcile the two? The extremes of our nature. That’s the question.
Scully: Maybe the question of our times...

& Mulder: Walk with me, Scully. This whole thing has got me thinking...

& Mulder: But where does the hatred end, though?
Scully: Maybe it ends where it began, by finding a common language again.
    Mulder: Maybe that’s God’s will.
Scully: How can we really know?
Mulder: He’s absent from the stage.
Scully: Well... maybe it’s beyond words. Maybe we should do like the prophets and... open our hearts and truly listen... What? What?
    Mulder: Did you hear that?
