Death to 2021

Director: Tennyson, how do you want us to refer to you in the captions?
Tennyson Foss OBE: I expect you want to know my preferred pronouns. Well, I don't have any. I don't have any. I do not dance the wokey-cokey. So you can call me whatever you like.
Director: Oh, I was just checking whether we should put OBE after your name.
Tennyson Foss OBE: No, you should. You must, in fact.

Pyrex Flask: Just a little bit of Pfizer before we start...

Narrator: Constitutional order is restored when, in a reverse exorcism ceremony, the ghost of Joe Biden is installed in the White House.
Joe Biden: Democracy has prevailed.
Narrator: Biden promised an intensive program for his first 100 days in office, just in case he didn't make it beyond that.

Gemma Nerrick: First I thought the new brand names were terrible and that they could've come up with something catchier than Delta. But they said they'd looked, and there isn't anything catchier than Delta.

Narrator: This new wave of virus variants leads to a new wave of lockdown variants and a new wave of depressing news reports. People are forced once again to adapt their lives to save lives.

Narrator: As the lockdowns continue to bite, many turned to television for escape, as you are doing now. The first TV hit of the year is Bridgerton, a gritty exposé of how wealthy and good-looking people had sex in the past...

Madison Madison: So diverse, yet so boring. You know, I would have called it "The First Woke Oscars," but most viewers slept through the whole thing.
Narrator: The new look ceremony features many innovations, including, for the first time in Oscar history, a moment of reflection for those who have been canceled this year... Matt Damon... Justin Timberlake... JK Rowling... Chrissy Teigen... Dr. Seuss... Armie Hammer... Dumbo... Gina Carano... Mr Potato Head... Sia... Pepé le Pew...

Penn Parker: As part of his sentence, Chauvin was banned from owning firearms. But he didn't shoot George Floyd. If the court really wanted justice, they should have chopped off his fucking knees.

Narrator: With life on Earth looking increasingly precarious, thoughts turned to how to protect our most beautiful and precious resource... Billionaires, the mega-rich star in self-funded, self-promoting, self-indulgent space extravaganzas, shooting themselves as far from the dying planet as coins will allow.

Narrator: Days later, more astonishing scenes. As the gentrification of space continues, another rich kid's dream is live-streamed as ultra-billionaire and world's most eligible skull Jeff Bezos blasts off inside a rocket-powered Freudian metaphor, every suggestive moment captured for a smirking public.

Penn Parker: Trump never seems to have properly gone away. If there is a deep state, they're not doing a very good job.

Penn Parker: I enjoyed watching it on the big screen. And as a thriller, it was genuinely tense because a dry cough kept echoing around the movie theater.

Director: Would you consider playing the role?
Tennyson Foss OBE: Well, there is not much point in me even applying, is there? Because they do not want people like me anymore. Now it is James Bond double-woke-seven. The name is Bond, James Bond. He/him.

Tennyson Foss OBE: Well, I haven't seen it, and I don't intend to. It is ridiculous, this liberal Taliban tearing down great men like Bond as if they were mere statues. And, of course, you can't even call them great men anymore. No, no, they are women without cervices. They are destroying everything, and I mean everything.
Director: Who do you mean by "they"?
Tennyson Foss OBE: They, them.
Director: And are those their pronouns?
Tennyson Foss OBE: Oh, do fuck off.

Tennyson Foss OBE: Here we go again. Another TV drama with an absurdly diverse cast. All Asian? Really? When does that happen in real life? It's simply not believable. And yet, of course, the baddies are privileged white men. How does that reflect society?

Snook Austin: For a few hours, with nobody validating their existence, many users assumed they had died.
Penn Parker: None of us could use social media. It was like being Donald Trump for an afternoon.
Gemma Nerrick: It was a horrible few hours. I kept staring at my phone, wondering if any messages would come through. None did. So it was like a normal night, actually.

Narrator: Social networks come under heavy media scrutiny, in particular, their ability to ruthlessly monetize anger and despair even more efficiently than Adele.

Director: On your social network, YipYakker, users are just repeatedly expressing rage and misery.
Zero Fournine: And it's essential to let them do that. It's optimized to keep them in that state. We found maintaining a sense of limitless fury keeps our users engaged, and if they're engaged, they must be enjoying themselves, even if they're desperately unhappy. In fact, especially then, because desperate unhappiness also equals greater engagement.

Mark Zuckerberg: Our company is now Meta.

Narrator: Human impersonator Mark Zuckerberg excitedly reveals diverting plans to spend billions on a virtual reality space he calls the metaverse.
Mark Zuckerberg: I'm proud of what we've built so far, and excited about what comes next.
Snook Austin: You can see it's a fantasy world because it's full of cool, arty types. Not like the real Facebook full of sex pests and perverts. That's who's actually going to be in the metaverse. They should really call it "the Me Too Verse."
Penn Parker: I was impressed. Zuckerberg's avatar actually looks like a more lifelike version of him than he is.

Narrator: A virtual reality world looks increasingly appealing since, in actual reality, the world is still trying to kill us.

Narrator: The much-anticipated COP 26 Climate Conference opens in Glasgow, London. Mankind's last chance to negotiate peace terms with the Earth, according to doom-laden coverage.

Narrator: While the world waits nervously for whatever the conference will finally fail to announce, Glasgow becomes a focus for climate activists.
Duke Goolies: Now that the whole BLM thing's been fixed, I had the bandwidth to get involved in climate change. I want to be, like, the Greta Thunberg of environmentalism, you know. Like, a lot of people, they stay at home, and because they don't see the reality of climate change up close, they don't even think about it. And so, what I wanted to do is flip the script on that. So, I actually went to Greenland to see the melting icebergs for myself, and then to a wildfire in California and a beach party in Cancún...
Director: Was that a climate emergency?
Duke Goolies: No, but you got to relax sometimes. Avoid burnout, especially with all the burnout going on.
Director: How did you get to these places?
Duke Goolies: Uh, private jet, obviously. I know what you're going to say, it's bad for the environment, but… Because the purpose of the trip was to persuade others not to use fossil fuels, technically, I mean, it's carbon neutral.

Narrator: A climate deal is finally brokered, but it is not as promised. Mankind has moved from ignoring the climate to gaslighting it, which is even worse for the environment.

Narrator: So, the conference fizzles out, and humanity is once again left to burn, drown, or virus to death.

Narrator: So, the conference fizzles out, and humanity is once again left to burn, drown, or virus to death. COVID is showing signs of a revival, aided by the vaccine's potency fading significantly after six months. Like true love, booster shots are required.
TV Anchor: Biden had a booster shot on TV.
Gemma Nerrick: I didn't know you could inject ghosts without the vaccine solution dripping straight through onto the floor, but then, I didn't know that ghosts had veins, so…

Snook Austin: The bizarre beliefs of hard-core anti-vaxxers means a significant number still insist on their right not to get the shot. Unfortunately, COVID still insists on its right to infect and kill them.

Penn Parker: Here are the two Americas again, each side believing the other side is trying to kill it or enslave it, whether it's masks, or vaccines, or votes. They constantly yell at each other, amplified through social media and TV. But I wonder, if these two sides actually sat down with each other as human beings in real life and took time to listen to each other, then maybe, just maybe, that could spark a fucking furious fistfight. Bam, bam, bam. Wouldn't that be a spectacle?

Narrator: We end the year as we began it, polarized and divided, progressives versus conservatives, vaxxed versus unvaxxed. Science versus whatever the fucking mental opposite of fucking science is. Some would say that we're in the storm of a culture war, others violently disagree. But there is some hope. While they may not have made everything normal again, vaccines have given us the normalest of the new normals so far. A chance to live, learn, and even love again.

Narrator: And what did you learn in 2021, Zero?
Zero Fournine: Well, I learned Mark Zuckerberg is unaware that I actually already built the metaverse five years ago. We've all been in it since 2016.

Narrator: What have you learned in 2021?
Snook Austin: I learned that when I say the phrase, "I was in the room when…" People tend to leave the room.

Penn Parker: What did I learn in 2021? I learned that nobody learned anything in 2020.

Narrator: What is it you're working on?
Pyrex Flask: It's a concerning new variant that I just discovered… Oh, no! Shit! Run away!

The One Where Chandler Takes a Bath

Friends 8×13

Joey: You and Monica, friends for a long time. And sure, there are rules. But then you went to London. But that's different. There are rules there too, know what I mean?
Chandler: Do you?
Joey: It was different for you guys. You were both in the same place. In London. Yeah.
Chandler: Yes, when Monica and I were in London, we were both in London.

Ross: We don't wanna know as long as it's happy and healthy.
Rachel: Yep, healthy. And cute.
Ross: And smart.
Rachel: Popular.
Ross: With an aptitude for science.
Phoebe: Are you two talking about the same baby?

Ross: Have you thought of names?
Rachel: Oh, yeah. I've come up with a bunch.
Ross: Really? Me too.
Phoebe: Me too. .... If it's a girl, Phoebe. And if it's a boy, Pheebo.

Monica: It's Joey.
Phoebe: Really? Joey? You don't say.
Monica: Would you be interested?
Phoebe: I don't know, I don't know... You know, I mean, on the one hand, "Mother, may I?" But, you know, on the other hand... No. No, I can't. We're friends. Oh, no. I don't wanna risk what we have.

Joey: I mean, it's Rachel, for God's sakes. For God's sakes, it's Rachel! She's not only my friend, she's my pregnant friend. She's my pregnant friend who's Ross' ex!

Joey: Dude, you gotta rearrange your bubbles.

Monica: Honey, cover it up with the boat.

Ross: Well, hey! What's going on? Oh, cool boat. Oh, no!

Monica: It's nice to do this together, isn't it?
Chandler: Yeah. And what you're doing feels so good.
Monica: I'm not touching you.
Chandler: You're not?
Monica: It's the salts.
Chandler: Sweet Lord, new realms of pleasure...
Monica: Whatever keeps you off the balcony, big guy.

Downton Abbey 6×4

Baxter: You don't know what you're asking.
Joseph Molesley: "All that's needed for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing."

Joseph Molesley: "The Carsons..." Are we gonna have to call her "Mrs Carson"?

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: What sort of Talbot is he?
Lady Shackleton: Shrewsbury. But he's nowhere near the earldom. About 40 strong men would have to drop dead.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Well, nothing is impossible. Without it, what are his prospects?
Lady Shackleton: Adequate, but not overwhelming.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: Honestly, listen to yourselves.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Lady Shackleton is quite right. Mary needs more than a handsome smile and a hand on the gear stick.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: I'm surprised you know what a gear stick is.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I know more than you think.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Really, Robert? You paint me as such a schemer.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: No-one has sharper eyes than a loving son.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You read that somewhere.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: Why do you never think I can make anything up?

Lady Shackleton: I expect there's a good deal to be said on both sides.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Don't be so feeble!
Lady Shackleton: How can I present myself as an expert when I don't know the facts?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: It's never stopped me!

Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: Don't hide behind Lady Shackleton, Mama. You're quite capable of landing your own punches. The question is which system is more likely to deliver modern treatment to the local population?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: That is not the point.
Lady Rosamund Painswick: I should have thought that was exactly the point.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You've muddled your priorities!
Lady Rosamund Painswick: I suppose cousin Isobel is entitled to put up an argument.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Of course she is, she's just not entitled to win it.

Dr Ryder: We got there in time. I've put in the stitch I spoke of and as they say in medical novels, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Lady Rosamund Painswick: Is it really so important to keep the Crawleys in command, Mama?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: That is my sole motive, is it?
Lady Rosamund Painswick: Isn't it?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: No. No, it is not. For years, I've watched governments take control of our lives. And their argument is always the same -- fewer costs, greater efficiency. But the result is the same, too -- less control by the people, more control by the state. Until the individual's own wishes count for nothing. That is what I consider my duty to resist.
Isobel Crawley: By wielding your unelected power?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You see, the point of a so-called 'great family' is to protect our freedoms. That is why the barons made King John sign the Magna Carta.
Lady Rosamund Painswick: I do see that your argument was more honourable than I'd appreciated. But, Mama, we're not living in 1215. And the strengths of great families like ours is going, that's just fact.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Your great-grandchildren won't thank you when the state is all-powerful because we didn't fight.
Lady Rosamund Painswick: Well, I won't have any, so I can live with that.

Lady Mary Crawley: We ought to go down. I could hear them shouting from my bedroom.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I haven't been into the kitchens for at least 20 years.
Isobel Crawley: Have you got your passport?

Lady Edith Crawley: Well, I'd like to be a sort of co-editor, but no man will put up with that so I'm going to try and find a woman.
Isobel Crawley: A woman editor? I applaud you.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Of course you do. Presumably we may now look forward to women field marshals and a woman pope!

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: "Mrs Carson..." It's like Jane Eyre asking to be called Mrs Rochester. I'll never get used to it.
Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: None of us will.

Money Heist 5×4

Tokio: We thought we were at war so many times before this. But only because we didn't know what a war actually was...

Berlín: Rock and roll...

Berlín: Oh. There's one thing I forgot to mention... I don't have the slightest clue about what we'll find behind this door.

Berlín: You never know what you might find in a hidden security room.

Berlín: Jakov, emergency. We'll need three more minutes.
Rafael: I can't do it in three minutes either.
Berlín: Okay, okay, no big deal. If you can't do it in three minutes, you can take your time in prison.

Berlín: The adrenaline, the endorphins... You feel powerful, don't you, son?

Berlín: What I'm about to teach you is really the most important thing... There we go.

Rafael: How that fuck is that educating me?!
Berlín: Look at you. Only a true thief feels like he owns someone else's property.

Berlín: We'll be living every thief's dream: leaving the heist to applause, with people taking pictures of us. We'll be happy, relaxed, determined, and so in love. And above all, suspicion free.

Berlín: I never took you to play tennis... or to ride a bike uphill, or to go rowing someplace. Because doing those kinds of things wouldn't teach you anything you don't already know. But here you learn. If you really want something in life, you have to steal it from somebody else. That's the story of the world, my son.

El Profesor: You're the sexiest woman in the world, but I love you for your brains.

Marseille: Are you breastfeeding or should I bring a bottle?

Coronel Tamayo: What are you trying to do?
El Profesor: All I want is a fair war.
Coronel Tamayo: That doesn't exist.

El Profesor: Tamayo, you sent eight elite soldiers inside the bank. I have ten robbers inside. I think it's quite balanced. I don't wanna see any other movement.

Last Night in Soho (2021)

Peggy: London can be a lot.

Jocasta: To Soho! Come on, Ellie. Keep up. You're gonna love it!

Ellie Turner: If I could live any place and any time, I'd live here in London in the '60s. It must have felt like the center of the universe.

Ellie Turner: Did a girl live upstairs before?
Ms. Collins: Lots of girls have lived here over the years.
Ellie Turner: Someone called Sandie?
Ms. Collins: Lots of girls have lived here over the years, and not all of them with their real names. Why do you ask?
Ellie Turner: Did someone die in my room?
Ms. Collins: This is London. Someone's died in every room in every building in this whole city. Every street corner, too.

Lindsey: Carol was worried about you. Thought you'd gone missing. I told her no one ever really disappears. They're always around somewhere.

El espectáculo de la vida

Money Heist 5×3

Palermo: You executed him. Accept it.

Manila: There wasn't anyone who was trans. Back in those days, whenever a man was dressed up as a woman on TV, it was just a big joke, just for people to laugh. My dad would be the first one to crack up. But I forgive him now because, the truth is, I didn't have any role models, but neither did he.

Manila: I think the natural state of parenthood is just plain confusion. And at the end of the day, it's not about doing everything the right way. It's about loving.

Berlín: It'll be the perfect evening. Luxury cars, tuxedos, cocktails... classical music... and 12 kilos of gold.

Rafael: I'm sorry, I gotta say it. These pieces belong in a museum.
Berlín: Wait a minute. Are you calling this art? Really?
Rafael: Of course I am. These pieces are more than 1,000 years old. They're hand carved. They have Nordic mythology symbols. This is pure art!
Berlín: Any blacksmith could make this garbage! This is the coarseness of barbarians! Those people pillaged iconic pieces, extraordinary ones: Latin, Greek, Phoenician... And then melted them for their cups of wine, plates, amulets! We're giving the dignity back to this gold.

Berlín: Oh, for God's sake. We're the ones who are going to make art. This heist will be unforgettable...

Palermo: Pardon the soccer reference, it's appropriate for the circumstances. Sometimes, during the World Cup finals, you know which team is gonna lose by the look of fear in the players' faces as they sing the anthem. And that type of fear is what I'm seeing here, right now. But that's all about to change.
Denver: In soccer it's 11 against 11. We're ten against 10,000 without a coach.

El Profesor: Breathe with your diaphragm.
Alicia: What?
El Profesor: So... So you control the contractions. Breathe with your diaphragm.
Alicia: Now you're a midwife too?

Helsinki: We can't win this war.
Palermo: Ding, ding, ding! The bear from the Balkans gets it wrong again. We don't need to win this war. In fact, we're going to lose it... but at a slow pace.

Palermo: My boys and girls in red... We... We're the fucking dregs of society, a team with the biggest losers in history: trans, criminals, scumbags, gays, Balkans, Latinos... What the fuck can they teach us about losing? We know the terrible feeling of a slow defeat. We know it. So it's just another day as losers.

Palermo: I graduated as an engineer, but my vocation is a general in the infantry.

Palermo: We're gonna crawl through every nook, every corner, every fucking pile of rubble. We'll throw a grenade, then a second one, followed by machine-gun fire.
Río: This isn't a fucking Vietnam movie.
Palermo: Exactly, it's much worse. It's the defense of Stalingrad.

Palermo: This strategy is not mine, it's Vasily Chuikov's. We're gonna blast music so loud they won't hear our grenades fall, they won't hear the explosions. And what's better... they won't even hear their own radios.

El Profesor: Let us help you.
Alicia: I'm gonna give birth... alone. Same way my grandma did, and hundreds of other women throughout history. Like this!... Welcome to the spectacle of life!!!.....

Alicia: Logroño. You know more than him. How's my dilation?
Benjamín: Mm, I couldn't tell you.
El Profesor: Dilation is measured by touch.
Alicia: Let's see...
Marseille: What part of the plan is this?
Alicia: The birth plan!!!

Alicia: I don't go to the Philippines. I don't go to the Philippines! I actually liked my life. I like Madrid. And lamb chops. And the Puerta del Sol. And the corruption. And I'm not losing my fucking country because of you, asshole.

Río: ...we should kiss. For the first time.
Tokio: A first kiss only happens once. Maybe you don't get it. That's why it's called that.
Río: But I don't wanna give you a last kiss. I want another first kiss. The kind of kiss couples do when they get back together.

El Profesor: It's a breech baby.
Alicia: What? Now what?
El Profesor: You need to insert the hand... place the baby on your arm as if it were riding it, hold its mouth with your index and thumb, bring its head close to the breastbone, and then pull it out. There's no other way. And you need to do it right now.

Matías: All right, nobody moves! Head between your legs. Brace yourself with your arms. Like in a fucking airplane! We're gonna have some turbulence.

Downton Abbey 6×3

Mrs. Hughes: But this is our day, My Lady. It's about Charles Carson and Elsie Hughes. And not about this glorious house or the glorious people who have lived in it. Just us, and that's the way I'd like to celebrate it.
Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: I couldn't understand more, Mrs Hughes. I hope we'll be invited.
Mrs. Hughes: Of course you will all be invited. We'd be honoured if you come. But it would be our day, celebrated in our way.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I know nothing of Spratt's friends. I know he has a great many relations who seem to get married and buried with numbing regularity. Usually on very inconvenient days.

Daisy Robinson: What is it?
Joseph Molesley: Oh... I don't know if I should tell you.
Daisy Robinson: Tell me if it's important. Don't if it's not.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Did you drink at luncheon?
Isobel Crawley: No, I did not. Which you know very well since we were together.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Not all the time...

Thomas Barrow: Typical though, isn't it? 30 years of service, one wrong move, and... snap, you're out on your ear.

Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: Mrs Hughes, I won't beat about the bush. I behaved badly earlier. I hope you'll accept my apology.
Mrs. Hughes: It must have been strange to find us all there, My Lady.
Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: Nevertheless, I have no excuse to behave as I did. Not to someone who deserves our loyalty as you do. Please forgive me.

Mrs. Hughes: What's happened? What's the matter?
Anna Bates: Nothing's the matter. We've come to dress the bride.
Mrs. Hughes: There's a sentence I never thought I'd hear.

Dr. Clarkson: To be honest, I don't know. But if something is that important, it's worth considering more than once.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Really? In my experience, second thoughts are vastly overrated.

Dr. Clarkson: It's not just Mrs Crawley and Lady Grantham. Your old friend Lord Merton is in favour of reform.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: A peer in favour of reform. It's like a turkey in favour of Christmas.

Mr. Carson: Before we take our seats, I believe, as the groom, that I have the right to a few words. I will not be prolix, but it must be right that I mark that I am the happiest and luckiest of men. That a woman of such grace and charm should entrust her life's happiness to my unworthy charge... passeth all understanding. To my wonderful bride!

Lady Mary Crawley: So what happened?
Tom Branson: It's quite simple. I had to go all the way to Boston to figure something out. But that's what I did.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: What was it?
Tom Branson: I learned that Downton is my home. And that you are my family. If I didn't quite know that before I left, I know it now.

The Abominable Snow Baby (2021)

Albert: Ok, come on, Albert. Like Grandad used to say, big breath now and dive in.

Albert: Are you ok?
Granny: Never better. But brimstone and treacle! I haven't seen weather like this since I went to Siberia on my honeymoon.

Granny: You know what? I think I'll learn to ski.
Albert: But you're 98.
Granny: Prime of life, Albert, prime of life.

Granny: Great bags of peppermint! Isn't this lovely?

Granny: Oh, don't sit around like that - it's unhealthy. Why don't you have a skiing marathon? A snowman-building competition? A massive marshmallow barbecue?

— All the roads are blocked, and the telephone lines are down.
— And no-one will come and dig us out because hardly anyone outside Gritshire knows where Blackbury is.
Granny: Well, we won't starve, for sure. We can always find something to nibble on. When I went to Alaska in my 20s, we ended up eating our boots. Chins up.

— She brought it on herself. That's what happens when you take a hairy stranger into your home.

— If you think I'm going up to that evil place, you've got another think to thunk.

Police Sergeant: Ok, listen up, people. Let's brace ourselves because we're off to... Even Moor.

Narrator: And so, the townspeople were happy and full of Christmas spirit. And they all agreed that they had learnt an important lesson from Granny... that an act of true kindness always pays back.

Narrator: .... And if that isn't Christmas magic, then who knows what is?

Dexter: New Blood 1×8

Kurt Caldwell: Well, I'm sure [your dad]'s just, uh, tied up with something.

Logan: You good?
Angela Bishop: I will be.
Logan: Well, you know, if you ever, uh, want to grab a drink or anything... I'm sure that Jim would love to hear from you.

Dexter Morgan: I really hate it when I'm the one who's bleeding.

Dexter Morgan: You said you had all day. Well, I've got news for you. The night is mine.

Kurt Caldwell: Look, all I'm trying to say is that you are who you are. Find what gives you joy, and you do that thing. No apologies. Whatever it is that brings you pleasure in this world.
Harrison Morgan: How do you... H-How do you do that?
Kurt Caldwell: You just... take the leap.

Kurt Caldwell: Eh, you know. Sometimes a kid just ends up suffering for the... choices of his father.

Kurt Caldwell: Wish it could've worked out differently. But I don't have a choice, son. Sins of the father. It's a fucked-up world out there.

Dexter Morgan: I was born in blood, just like you.

Dexter Morgan: My dad taught me a code. A way to channel those urges. I'm gonna tell you everything...

Redoubt

The Expanse 6×4

Admiral Duarte: Grief is strange. It gets harder when you've grown up, so we lie about it and say it's the same as being sad. It's not like we mean to lie.
Cara: Lies? Like what?
Admiral Duarte: Like, "It'll be all right." "We'll keep you safe." I mean we want to, we try to, but... that's not how life works. Having something you love that you can't protect... it's terrifying.

Admiral Duarte: I never thought it would fall apart, and then it did. It made me very sad and very, very angry and frightened. When I was where you are now, I needed something to make it more than just death. I needed to make it a sacrifice. You know what a sacrifice means?
Cara: To give something up.
Admiral Duarte: Yeah, but it's more than that. It's... it's to give something up and make it sacred. When you think about it like that, it doesn't fix anything, but it makes losing them hurt less.

Amos: Are you pissed at me for asking? Or because you don't have an explanation to give?

Holden: It's not about Filip or what he might or might not do. It's about us. I can't be the one who kills your son. It won't matter that we were at war or that he was on the other side. Every time you wake up, you'll be lying next to the reason your boy is dead... I can't be that to you. I don't have it in me.

Liang Walker: A revolution that doesn't make you rich is hardly worth having, huh?

Bobbie: The thing that chaps my ass is we hit a million-to-one shot coming across the Pella in the first place, hit another million-to-one beating three ships, and when it's time to take the kill shot, another million-to-one it's a dud? What are the fucking odds?
Clarissa: Based on your numbers, a billion-billion-to-one.
Bobbie: I'm going to the gym.

Clarissa: I killed a lot of people. Some of them deserved it. Most of them probably didn't. That's not the point. They all haunt me just the same. Killing someone is a terrible thing, and you can never take it back. Don't ever feel bad about not killing someone.

Camina: This is Camina Drummer, and this message is for the traitor, the coward, Marco Inaros. You hunted me and mine, and still we are here, unbent, unbroken, unbowed. And you? You are nothing.
Liang Walker: Well, so much for anonymity...

Camina: .... Camina Drummer did this to you. Live shamed, and die empty.

Filip Inaros: This is war, and it won't be over until we are dead or victorious. Or else everything that we fought for, the blood that we spilled, the beratnas we lost, all will have been for nothing. There is no turning back now.

Downton Abbey 6×2

Lady Mary Crawley: And you've come to discuss it with Mr Branson.
Mr Finch: I know that's not possible, milady, but if you could tell me who's replaced him...
Lady Mary Crawley: Hold onto your hat, Mr Finch, but I'm afraid I have.
Mr Finch: Mm-hm... Hm. I see.

Lady Mary Crawley: I mean, you're free. Bates is free, the threat's gone away. I'd expect you to be wreathed in smiles but, instead, you seem rather cast down.
Anna Bates: Life's never simple is it, milady?

Lord Merton: I assume old Lady Grantham is still bitterly opposed?
Isobel Crawley: Of course, so there'll be wigs on the green before we're done.
Lord Merton: So be it. Wigs on the green it is.

Anna Bates: Give me a moment, I'll be fine.
John Bates: No. I mean, it's not right for you to cry alone. You're married and that means you never have to cry alone again.

Thomas Barrow: Tell me, Mr Moore, what exactly is an assistant butler? I'm not familiar with the term.
Mr Moore: No, well, we made it up. Ah, so the duties of an assistant butler are not the same as an under butler. I think you have to climb down from that high horse, Mr Barrow. This is 1925. We'd need you to combine the duties of a footman -- when needed -- and a chauffeur.
Thomas Barrow: There's no chauffeur?
Mr Moore: Well, they drive themselves most of the time but, should they need a chauffeur for evening parties and the like, that'd be you.
Thomas Barrow: I see. Well, I can drive, just about. Is that all?
Mr Moore: Do you know how to valet?
Thomas Barrow: Goodness, this is a job for a one-man band!

Isobel Crawley: The facts speak for themselves.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Your facts or mine?
Isobel Crawley: What's the difference?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Mine are the true facts.

Mr. Carson: Lady Mary feels... that it's only right that my marriage is celebrated in the house.
Mrs. Hughes: And heaven forfend we lowly folk should do anything to contradict the blessed Lady Mary!
Mr. Carson: That's not like you.
Mrs. Hughes: It is very like me! I want my own wedding to be done in my own way. Is that so outlandish?
Mr. Carson: It's my wedding too.
Mrs. Hughes: But I am the bride, we'll be doing it your way for the next 30 years, I know that well enough, but the wedding day is mine!

Tim Drewe: We made a plan, Lady Edith and I, but we forgot about emotion... and emotion's what can trip you up every time.

Joey: Okay, how about this one? I was gonna wait until the end of the night to kiss you... but you're just so beautiful, I don't think I can.
Rachel: ... Oh, my God! Ha. Wow, that was fantastic! I almost leaned in. I really almost did.

Rachel: So tell me, what are Joey Tribbiani's end-of-the-night moves?
Joey: Uh, well, if I want the girl to kiss me... first thing I do is make my lips look irresistible.
Rachel: How do you do it?
Joey: Now you can't tell anyone, but, uh... I put on shiny lip balm.
Rachel: Oh, my God.
Joey: Like a moth to a flame, I'm telling you.

The Matrix Resurrections (2021)

Morpheus: I saw this pattern... and it was everywhere. We can't see it, but we're all trapped inside these strange, repeating loops. Somehow I saw it in the mirror. Just a flicker, but it was like you said. And suddenly I understood. This is not the real world. For the first time, I felt real purpose. I knew who I was and what I had to do.
Bugs: Who are you? What do you have to do?
Morpheus: I am... Morpheus. And I have to find Neo.

Bugs: You call this a choice? Oh, honestly, when somebody offered me these things, I went off on binary conceptions of the world and said there was no way I was swallowing some symbolic reduction of my life. And the woman with the pills laughed 'cause I was missing the point.
Morpheus: What point?
Bugs: The choice is an illusion.

Smith: We did this. Together.
Thomas Anderson: Yeah. Now what?
Smith: Things have changed. The market's tough. I'm sure you can understand why our beloved parent company, Warner Bros., has decided to make a sequel to the trilogy.
Thomas Anderson: What?
Smith: They informed me they're gonna do it with or without us.
Thomas Anderson: I thought they couldn't do that.
Smith: Oh, they can. And they made it clear they'll kill our contract if we don't cooperate.

Smith: I know you said the story was over for you, but that's the thing about stories. They never really end, do they? We're still telling the same stories we've always told, just with different names, different faces and I have to say I'm kind of excited. After all these years, to be going back to where it all started. Back to The Matrix.

Thomas Anderson: Twenty years? Why did it take 20 years to find me?
Bugs: It took a lot longer than that. It's been over 60 years since you and Trinity flew to one of the Machine Cities.

Morpheus: All I'm saying isthis is the moment for you to show us what is real.

Morpheus: If you want out, you'll take this pill. But if you are where you belong, you can go back to this. Every day. Over and over forever.
Thomas Anderson: Fuck.

Bugs: That's it, isn't it? If we don't know what's real... we can't resist. They took your story, something that meant so much to people like me, and turned it into something trivial. That's what the Matrix does. It weaponizes every idea. Every dream. Everything that's important to us.
Morpheus: Where better to bury truth than inside something as ordinary as a video game?

Sheperd: Everything was simpler back then. People wanted to be free. It's different now. Sometimes it feels like people gave up. Like the Matrix won.

The Merovingian: Kill him! You ruined every suck-my-silky-ass thing! We had grace. We had style! We had conversation! Not this... Art, films, books were all better! Originality mattered! You gave us Face-Zucker-suck and Cock-me-climatey-Wiki-piss-and-shit!

Neo: I still know kung fu.

Neo: At some point, I think I gave up searching for something real.

The Analyst: Resurrecting you both was crazy expensive. Like renovating a house. Took twice as long, cost twice as much.

The Analyst: Did you know hope and despair are nearly identical in code?

The Analyst: I realized... it was never just you. Alone, neither of you is of any particular value. Like acids and bases, you're dangerous when mixed together. Every sim where you two bonded... Let's just say bad things happened.

The Analyst: Now, my predecessor loved precision. His Matrix was all fussy facts and equations. He hated the human mind. So he never bothered to realize that you don't give a shit about facts. It's all about fiction. The only world that matters is the one in here. And you people believe the craziest shit. Why? What validates and makes your fictions real? Feelings.

The Analyst: Why your own brain tortures you? It's actually us, maximizing your output.

The Analyst: Here's the thing about feelings. They're so much easier to control than facts. Turns out, in my Matrix, the worse we treat you, the more we manipulate you, the more energy you produce. It's nuts!

The Analyst: And, the best part, zero resistance. People stay in their pods, happier than pigs in shit. The key to it all? You. And her. Quietly yearning for what you don't have, while dreading losing what you do. For 99.9% of your race, that is the definition of reality. Desire and fear, baby. Just give the people what they want, right?

The Analyst: She's the only home you have, Thomas. Come home before something terrible happens.

Trinity: My name is Trinity and you better take your hands off of me.

Smith: You know the difference between us, Tom? Anyone could have been you. Whereas I've always been anyone.

Neo: I'm not doing this. Are you doing this?

The Analyst: Here's the thing. The sheeple aren't going anywhere. They like my world. They don't want this sentimentality. They don't want freedom or empowerment. They want to be controlled. They crave the comfort of certainty. And that means you two, back in your pods, unconscious and alone, just like them.

Downton Abbey 6×1

Mrs. Hughes: I was not bad-looking as a girl, if you can believe it.
Mrs. Patmore: Very easily.
Mrs. Hughes: But these days? I'm not sure I can let him see me as I am now.
Mrs. Patmore: Perhaps you can keep the lights off.
Mrs. Hughes: That is not helpful, Mrs Patmore.
Mrs. Patmore: Well, won't he feel the same? I mean, no-one's clapped eyes on him without his togs for years. Except the doctor.
Mrs. Hughes: Good point. Very good point. Maybe he'd prefer us to leave that side of things alone...
Mrs. Patmore: Sorry? Live like brother and sister, you mean?
Mrs. Hughes: A very loving brother and sister.
Mrs. Patmore: And that's what you want?
Mrs. Hughes: I don't know what I want. Except not to feel embarrassed and absurd.

Isobel Crawley: What matters more? Health or power?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: What matters is to have power over the maintenance of our own health.

Isobel Crawley: So, you want to protect your power at the expense of the patients. I want to protect the patients at the expense of my power.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: And may the best man win.

Mr. Carson: I must ask you to remember, my Lord, that there were six footmen when I first came here and five housemaids. Now we've got to two of each and no kitchen maids at all. We must run this place as it should be run.
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: I'm not asking you to wield a scythe, but, I mean, who has an under-butler these days? If I could stop history in its tracks, maybe I would. But I can't, Carson. Nor you, nor I can hold back time.
Mr. Carson: Unfortunately.

Mrs. Patmore: You see, we were talking of how it will be, sharing your life after so many years on your own.
Mr. Carson: That's the nub of it -- I agree.
Mrs. Patmore: Because you've got used to doing things in a certain way.
Mr. Carson: It's true. I have. But I like to think that I'm not too old to change.
Mrs. Patmore: No, of course not.

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: Are you plotting something? You sound like a governess in fear of dismissal.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You sound like a guilty party, who's trying to throw me off the scent.

Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: To be honest, I'm starting to ask myself how much longer we can go on with it all.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Well, go on with what?
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: The household. The servants.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You're not in difficulties, are you?
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: No. But a butler, under-butler, footmen, a valet, ladies' maids... to say nothing of the housemaids, the kitchen, the laundry, the --
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Yes, well, you... you think it's a bit too much in 1925?
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: The wage bill is three times what it was before the war. Soon it will be worse. And anyway, who lives as we used to, now?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Well, I don't think you'll see much change at the Palace...
Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham: The Royal Family, then, the dukes, some others, and good luck to them. But most people are cutting down.

Mrs. Patmore: You see, she is a very proud woman, Mr Carson.
Mr. Carson: I know that, and I respect her for it.
Mrs. Patmore: And she would never want to appear ridiculous in your eyes.
Mr. Carson: Nor could she.
Mrs. Patmore: No, but... as your wife, she wonders if you would expect... that she perform her wifely duties.
Mr. Carson: Don't wives normally perform their duties? Good wives, any... Oh.
Mrs. Patmore: Yes. That's it. I think we've got there.
Mr. Carson: I do believe we have.

Mr. Carson: You say she asks if I want a 'full' marriage... and the answer is... yes, I do. I want a real marriage, a true marriage, with everything that that involves... and I hope I do not ask the indelicate when I send you back to relay this message.
Mrs. Patmore: Don't worry about me.
Mr. Carson: I love her, Mrs Patmore. I am happy and tickled and... bursting with pride that she would agree to be my wife. And I want us to live as closely as two people can, for the time that remains to us on earth.
Mrs. Patmore: Well, you couldn't make it any clearer.

Mrs. Hughes: He avoided... vulgarity, then?
Mrs. Patmore: Vulgarity? Mr Carson wouldn't be vulgar if they put him on a seaside postcard.

Isobel Crawley: I need to be sure that we can disagree, without there being any bad feeling between us.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Well, it depends who wins.
Isobel Crawley: Surely not!
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Which means you are confident of victory. Well, we shall see...

Isobel Crawley: You don't really mean to manage without a lady's maid, do you?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Certainly not!
Isobel Crawley: Then why did you --
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Sometimes it's good to rule by fear.

A Moorland Holiday

Downton Abbey 5×9

Joseph Molesley: It's hard to cope with three ladies at once, what with tweeds, evening dresses, tea gowns and all.
Mrs. Hughes: Tea gowns?! We're not in the 1890s now, Mr Molesley.
Mr. Carson: More's the pity.

Lady Mary Crawley: If you don't like her, why have you sent Shrimpie to her rescue?
Isobel Crawley: That's what I keep asking.
Lady Mary Crawley: Well, Granny?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Oh, you know me. Never complain. Never explain. You don't usually have much trouble complaining...

Isobel Crawley: I assume you know about Lady Mary's visit this morning?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I do. I don't like it. Suppose it gets into the papers. 'Earl's loyal daughter visits maid in prison.'
Isobel Crawley: I should think the public would like her for it.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Whether they do or not, I hate to give them the chance to poke their grubby noses into our business.
Mr. Carson: Lord Sinderby, Branson and Barrow - not what I'd call a recipe for a peaceful week's shooting.
Mrs. Hughes: Makes you wonder what they'll be shooting at, by the end of it.

Tom Branson: I wonder if I was right to come. I don't want to sound like Larry Grey, but I'm not Lord Sinderby's idea of a perfect son-in-law.
Lady Mary Crawley: Stuff and nonsense! We Crawleys stick together.
Lady Edith Crawley: For once I agree with Mary. You'll enjoy it when we get there. Besides, you're a good shot. Any host will forgive a lot if you get the numbers up.

Prince Kuragin: It will be easier not to be alone at first. I haven't seen her for five years. I want you all here.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: The presence of strangers is our only guarantee of good behaviour.

Mr. Carson: Who have you invited?
Mrs. Patmore: Oh, just us, Mr Bates, Mr Molesley and Daisy.
Mr. Carson: Daisy? To wait on us, I assume?
Mrs. Patmore: To wait on us and eat with us. If that thought's too democratically overpowering, you can share what I've made for the housemaids. It is your choice.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: It is... delicious.
Spratt: It can't be! It's not possible!
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: There's a point, Spratt, where malice ceases to be amusing. Thank you, Denker, very much. I'm not hungry enough to do your soup justice this evening. Let us... save its delights for another day.

Isobel Crawley: And you've never strayed again?
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: I've never risked everything again.
Isobel Crawley: It's not quite what I asked.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: It's all the answer you'll get. Remember, we were the Edwardians.

Mr. Carson: I hope you don't mind, but I hate to change a plan when there's no need.

Mrs. Hughes: Who knows what the future may hold? Or how much longer we'll even be here? Suppose you want to... move away and change your life entirely. You don't want to be stuck with me.
Mr. Carson: But that's the point.
Mrs. Hughes: What is?
Mr. Carson: I do want to be stuck with you.
Mrs. Hughes: I'm not convinced I can be hearing this right.
Mr. Carson: You are, if you think I'm asking you to marry me.... Well?
Mrs. Hughes: Well... You could knock me down with a feather.
Mr. Carson: And you're not offended?
Mrs. Hughes: Oh, Mr Carson,... I can assure you the very last thing in the world that I am at this moment is offended.

Mr. Carson: You can take as long as you like - I won't press you. Because one thing I do know - I'm not marrying anyone else.
Mrs. Hughes: Well, then...
Mr. Carson: What exactly are we celebrating?
Mrs. Hughes: We're celebrating the fact that I can still get a proposal at my age.
Mr. Carson: And that's... it?
Mrs. Hughes: Of course I'll marry you, you old booby. I thought you'd never ask.

The Gathering Dark

Chapelwaite 1×9

Jakub: Ah, it is more than just a book. It is a key. To the Gates of Darkness. Soon, we will love in a world without light. A world of endless feed. With mankind... as our livestock.

Alice Burroughs: Come home, Martin. Only God is perfect.

Charles Boone: Follow me and I will take you to hell. But stay here... and hell will surely come to you.

Alice Burroughs: I also have regret, Martin, but we can't undo our mistakes. We can only pay for them.

Charles Boone: It's begun. Let's ride.

Skin of Her Teeth

Dexter: New Blood 1×7

Angela Bishop: ...that's where you come in. Dexter Morgan. Forensics expert from Miami Metro? He owes me.

Dexter Morgan: Plus, you know I can keep a secret.

Debra Morgan: Good call. Leave it to the police to handle. What could possibly go wrong?

Dexter Morgan: I'm used to being the predator, but now I'm the protector. Funny what fatherhood'll do to you.

Dexter Morgan: I hate the view from the cheap seats.

Dexter Morgan: You think you can get rid of everything? Something always gets left behind.
Kurt Caldwell: You're right. Something always gets left behind.

Kurt Caldwell: We can never erase all of our sins. Not even fire will do that.

Molly Park: Okay, now I'm thoroughly confused. First Kurt is creepy and now Jim. If he wasn't your boyfriend, I would totally do a deep dive. But it's not like he's hiding anything from you. I mean, you're the chief of police.

The One with Ross's Step Forward

Friends 8×11

Phoebe: This is completely normal. Around the fourth month, your hormones go crazy.
Rachel: Really? So this happened to you?
Phoebe: Absolutely, yeah. And keep in mind, I was carrying triplets. So in medical terms, I was thrice as randy.

Doug: So! The divorce, the marriage, we got a lot to celebrate. How about we go out to dinner tomorrow night?
Monica: I can't think of anything we're doing... Why can't I think of anything we're doing?!

Ross: I know! Why do you guys need to have this conversation, huh? No self-respecting man would ask a woman, "So where is this going?"
Rachel: Uh, Ross, you asked me that.
Ross: Hey, you were a closed book, okay? I'm not a mind reader!

Ross: Maybe I need some kind of a gesture. Something that says we're moving forward without having to talk about it.
Monica: Like asking her to move in with you?
Ross: Wha...? Ha. Smaller than that.
Monica: Making her a mix tape?
Ross: Uh, bigger than that.
Phoebe: Give her a key to your apartment.
Ross: Whoa, hello. We were closer with the tape.

Ross: Heh. Uh, we are so... So, um... well, I really like you. And I love, um, you know, hanging out with you. And I'm having a lot of fun.
Mona: Okay.
Ross: I mean, there's no point in spending time with someone if it's just fun.
Mona: It's gotta be going somewhere, right?
Ross: Ha, ha.
Mona: So where is it going?
Ross: Ah. That's the real question. And the answer is... it's going somewhere... fun.

Rachel: Lately with this pregnancy thing... I'm just finding myself... How do I put this? Um... Erotically charged.
Joey: Is that college talk for "horny"?

Joey: Okay, good night.
Rachel: Good night!
Joey: I can't do it!
Rachel: I didn't ask you to!
Joey: You're Rachel!
Rachel: You're Joey!
Joey: You're my friend! Yeah.
Rachel: Right back at you.
Joey: Plus, it would be wrong, and weird and bad!
Rachel: So bad! I don't know what you're talking about. I didn't ask you to do anything.
Joey: I know! ...... You wanna do it?
Rachel: No!
Joey: Me neither, I'm just testing you!
Rachel: That's the end of this conversation!
Joey: This conversation never happened.
Rachel: Never happened.

Downton Abbey 5×8

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: Love may not conquer all, but it can conquer quite a lot.

Mrs. Hughes: Could we borrow a spare footman?
Mr. Carson: I don't know. Borrowing footmen sounds like something out of the last century. Even to me!

Prince Kuragin: The last years have been ugly. I don't want what remains to be ugly.

Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: My dear, love is a far more dangerous motive than dislike.

Mrs. Patmore: If it was so lovely, why have you been in a gloom since you got back?
Daisy Robinson: It showed me what I've been missing. Before I started studying I thought history, art or 'owt like that were only for the family, not for us.
Joseph Molesley: Surely it's a good thing, if your horizons have expanded?
Daisy Robinson: In a way, but it's shown me how empty my life's been until now.
Mrs. Hughes: You've learned a trade. You're skilled. You're an artist yourself. Look at this wedding cake.
Daisy Robinson: What for? So I can skivvy in a kitchen that isn't even mine?

Lady Edith Crawley: I dare say this is a first for you, Granny, to sample the joys of a registry office.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: You'd be quite wrong, no, in 1878 I attended the wedding of Lord Rosebery and Hannah Rothschild held in the Board of Guardians, very much the same.
Isobel Crawley: It seems almost sad in a way.
Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham: But in marrying a Rothschild, there are certain compensations.
Lady Manville: How are you two bearing up?
Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: Well, thank you, Lady Manville.
Lady Manville: I do feel for you. It must be very trying, but I so admire you for putting on a good face.
Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham: I wonder if you remember that my father was Jewish?
Lady Manville: Oh. I'm afraid I... That is... How interesting...

Mr. Carson: I have faith in British justice. Mr Bates was released in the end.
Mrs. Hughes: After he'd served time. Sorrow seems to shadow them both and in their wake, it shadows us.
Mr. Carson: Come, Mrs Hughes. This isn't like you. Take courage for their sake. We must always travel in hope.

Cashmere

Maid 1×4

Customer: You know what else is free? Pain and heartache. Pain and suffering.

Alex: It's a story about a woman.
Wayne: I love female protagonists.
Alex: She lives in a big, beautiful house. The kind of house that's on the cover of magazines. She has a personal trainer and a financial adviser. And an IRA. She's been to the Louvre more than once. She spends entire Saturdays... getting hot-stone massages. And reading her first-edition books. She has a cashmere sweater that makes her feel like... she's being hugged by 1000 baby lambs. She wakes up every morning to a view of the ocean. Like it exists just for her.
Wayne: Nice detail.
Alex: She has the luxury of time. No long lines to stand in. No time cards to punch. She has time to bake seven pies from scratch, if she wants to.
Wayne: What's the conflict?
Alex: There isn't one. People with money have everything.
Wayne: That's not true.

Regina: It's the people you think you know. That's who you have to worry about. Because you don't actually know them. You know the story you tell yourself about who they are. So you can get out of bed in the morning.

Regina: Don't ever let anybody take advantage of you. Make you feel "less than" for all of your hard work. Work. It's the one thing you can count on. Everything else is fragile.

Alex: When I think about the house that I want for my daughter and me, it's not big and full of stuff. There's a bed for each of us, a surface for me to write on. Maybe a yard for a big, dumb dog someday. But our space is a home because we love each other in it.

Dune: Part One (2021)

— Dreams are messages from the deep.

Duncan Idaho: Dreams make good stories, but everything important happens when we're awake. 'Cause that's when we make things happen.

Duke Leto Atreides: You never met Harkonners before. I have. They are not human. They're brutal!

Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: When is a gift not a gift?

Paul Atreides: Why are you doing this?
Reverend Mother Mohiam : An animal caught in a trap will gnaw off its own leg to escape. What will you do?

Lady Jessica Atreides: I must not fear. I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings obliteration. And I'll face my fear and I'll permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past... I will turn the inner eye and see its path. And where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Lady Jessica Atreides: Did you have to go that far?
Reverend Mother Mohiam : You chose to train him in the Way in defiance of our rule. He wields our power. He had to be tested to the limits. So much potential wasted in a male...

Reverend Mother Mohiam : Like sifting sand through a screen, we sift people. If you had been unable to control your impulses, like an animal, we could not let you live. You inherit too much power.
Paul Atreides: What, because I'm a Duke's son?
Reverend Mother Mohiam : Because you are Jessica's son. You have more than one birthright, boy.

Reverend Mother Mohiam : On Arrakis, we have done all we can for you. A path has been laid. Let's hope he doesn't squander it.

Lady Jessica Atreides: You don't know everything... For thousands of years, we've been carefully crossing bloodlines to bring forth--
Paul Atreides: The One?
Lady Jessica Atreides: A mind… powerful enough to breach space and time, past and future… who can help us into a better future. We think he's very close now. Some believe he is here.
Paul Atreides: All part of the plan...

Duke Leto Atreides: What do they say about this hell hole again?
Thufir Hawat: "It's a shower, you scrub your ass with sand," My Lord, that's what they say.

Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: I said I would not harm them. And I shall not. But Arrakis is Arrakis, and the desert takes the weak. My desert. My Arrakis. My dune.

Dr. Liet Kynes: "Bless the Maker and His water. Bless the coming and going of Him. May His passage cleanse the world. And keep the world for His people."

Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: What did you say?
Duke Leto Atreides: .... "Here I am, here I remain!"

Dr. Liet Kynes: I serve only one master. His name is Shai-Hulud.

Jamis: The mystery of life isn't a problem to solve. But a reality to experience. A process that cannot be understand by stopping it. We must move with the flow of the process. We must join it. We must flow with it. Let it go. Let it go.

Stilgar: What wealth can you offer beyond the water in your flesh.

Kwisatz Haderach. Kwisatz Haderach. Climb up. Rise.

Stilgar: You're one of us now. A life for a life. Come with us to Sietch Tabr.

Paul Atreides: No. The Emperor sent us to this place. And my father came… Not for spice, not for the riches, but for the strength of your people. My road leads into the desert. I can see it. If you'll have us, we will come.

Paul Atreides: Desert power.
Chani: This is only the beginning...
