The Return of the Living Dead

& Frank: Did you see that movie Night of the Living Dead?
Freddy: That’s the one where the corpses start eating the people, right? Sure. What about it?
Frank: Did you know that movie was based on a true case?...

& Frank: Mind the third step. It’s a bitch.

& Freddy: They just brought the bodies here and left them?
    Frank: You know the army...

& Ethel Glover: Hello, dear. How was your day?
Col. Horace Glover: The usual. Crap.

& Burt: If that is a re-animated body, we’re gonna have to kill it.
Freddy: How do you kill something that’s already dead?

& Burt: I thought you said if we destroyed the brain, it’d die!
Frank: It worked in the movie!
Burt: Well, it ain’t working now, Frank!
Freddy: You mean the movie lied?!

& Kaltenbrunner: Bones are no problem. Hardest thing to burn is the heart.
    Burt: A heart, why?
Kaltenbrunner: ’cause it’s just one big tough muscle.
Burt: Yeah, but Ernie, I mean, c’mon, we don’t want the heart sticking around!
Kaltenbrunner: Then I’ll turn it up hotter for the heart.

& Paramedic #1: No blood pressure.
    Paramedic #2: No pulse.
Freddy: What do you mean, «no blood pressure, no pulse»?
Paramedic #1: Take it easy. What do you have?
    Paramedic #2: 70.
    Freddy: 70 what?
    Paramedic #2: 70 degrees.
    Freddy: Well, what’s that?
    Paramedic #1: Room temperature.

& Paramedic #1: You have no pulse, your blood pressure’s zero-over-zero, you have no pupillary response, no reflexes and your temperature is 70 degrees.
Freddy: Well, what does that mean?
Paramedic #1: Well, it’s a puzzle because, technically, you’re not alive. Except you’re conscious, so we don’t know what it means.
Freddy: Are you saying we’re dead?
Paramedic #2: Well, let’s not jump to conclusions.
Freddy: Are you saying we’re dead?
    Paramedic #2: No conclusions.
Paramedic #1: Obviously I didn’t mean you were really dead. Dead people don’t move around and talk.

& Kaltenbrunner: What is it?
    Spider: It’s dead people screaming!

The Expanse 2×6

& Epstein: The voice interface had been problematic from the start. The original owner was Chinese, so I turned the damn thing off. The rest, I guess, is history.

& Epstein: My name’s Solomon Epstein. And I changed everything.

& Holden: ....Love you, Mom.
Naomi: How come you don’t say «Love you, Mom, and mom and dad, and mom and dad and dad.»

& Holden: I don’t want to be the one who says who lives and who dies.
Naomi: Whether you like it or not, you are the Captain of this ship.

& Chrisjen: I have a file with 900 pages of analysis, and contingency plans for war with Mars, including 14 different scenarios about what to do, if they develop an unexpected new technology. My file for what to do if an advanced alien species comes calling? It’s three pages long, and it begins with, «Step one, find God.»

& Holden: What are you planning on doing with them?
Johnson: Nothing. Sometimes that’s the best plan of action.

& Johnson: We want the same thing, you know. We’re on the same team.
Holden: That’s the thing with all of you. Earth, Mars, the Belt, the OPA... It’s all bullshit. There shouldn’t be any teams.
Johnson: That’s a beautiful dream, son. And I hope I’m around to see it come true. But in this world that we live in, in order to survive, you have to pick a side.

& Naomi: I want people to know about Miller. He was a good man.
Johnson: He was a pain-in-the-ass, suicidal ex-cop... who got the job done.

& Epstein: That’s the wonderful and terrible thing about technology. It changes everything.

& Chrisjen: ...And I have the power to do it, because I am the fucking hero who helped save Mother Earth...!

& Amos: The way I see it, there’s only three kinds of people in this world. Bad ones, ones you follow, and ones you need to protect...

Laura: Dude, yes. You can have anything. What do you want?
    Eugene: Can I have lobster?

& Eugene: What about pickles? I-I like pickles.
    Laura: We’re out of pickles.
    Eugene: What about potato chips?
Laura: We got chips. Number 42 makes them.

& Negan: Dwighty boy... was it you?

& Negan: After all this... before and after... hell, after everything... who are you, Dwight?
    Dwight: I’m Negan.

& Laura: You’re one of us now, not them. They eat shit, we eat good.

& Negan: Don’t be rude, asshole. Say hello.

& Negan: But, Eugene, see, all I really want to know is if you are a smarty-pants. You know things?.... Answer the question!
Eugene: I— I am, indeed, a smarty-pants. I... taught myself to cast bullets. I... found a— found a machine shop with the necessary... I-I read a lot, and, um... Although my— Even though my memory is not considered eidetic, I don’t skim and I don’t scrimp. If knowledge is dropped, I do, indeed, pick it up.

& Eugene: Step one, melt down scrap metal. Step two, pour it over the compromised walker as they are in contact with the chain link. The liquid metal will harden... both maintaining bodily integrity for the walker as well as affixing them to the fence. Bonus points for covering their head and protecting them from head trauma from hostiles and calamities.

& Negan: God damn! If that ain’t the coolest thing I’ve ever heard in my life! Not only is that practical, it is just bad-ass! Whoa.

& Eugene: D-D-Did you say «wives,» meaning plural?
    Negan: Hell yes, I did.

Eugene: Thank you. Fully, completely... sincerely, seriously... thank you.

Tanya: So, what, are you, like, one of those guys who can make a bomb out of bleach and a toothpick or something?
Eugene: Of course not. That would at least require dry yeast, hydrogen peroxide, and a small amount of liquid dish soap, maybe some, you know, bathroom or drain cleaner, some balloons or something like that, few other common household sundries.
    Tanya: .... Seriously?
    Eugene: Serious as sepsis.

War Dogs

& David Packouz: What do you know about war? They’ll tell you it’s about patriotism, democracy... or some shit about the other guy hating our freedom. But you wanna know what it’s really about? What do you see? A kid from Arkansas doing his patriotic duty to defend his country? I see a helmet, fire-retardant gloves, body armor and an M16. I see $17, 500. That’s what it costs to outfit one American soldier. Over two million soldiers fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. It cost the American taxpayer $4.5 billion each year just to pay the air conditioning bills for those wars. And that’s what war is really about. War is an economy. Anybody who tells you otherwise is either in on it or stupid.

& David Packouz: It’s weird. We were the same age, but I always looked up to Efraim. When life kicked me, I stayed down. But not Efraim. He kicked back.

& David Packouz: They called guys like us war dogs. Bottom feeders who make money off of war without ever stepping foot on the battlefield. It was meant to be derogatory, but we kinda liked it.

& Geary: To the death!
Code Duello: To first blood. According to the Irish code of 1777, any man wounded will be tended by the doctor.
Doctor: And no second shot will be fired by either gun.

& Code Duello: When I drop this handkerchief, you will walk towards each other. And, at a time of your choosing, there will be a polite exchange of bullets.

& Lorna: Look, I’m very happy to admit that I don’t want James Delaney to die. But can you also admit that you don’t want James Delaney to die?

& Delaney: Are you King or are you Company? Hm? It doesn’t matter. Now there is nothing up that road for you apart from death and anybody like you.

& Delaney: And you think she’s beautiful?
    Cholmondeley: Who?
    Delaney: The actress.
Cholmondeley: Hm! Not only is she among the large number of women I would sleep with, she’s also among the much smaller group of women I would masturbate over.

& Delaney: I am inside your heads, gentlemen. Always.

& Sir Stuart: Now, we’ve screwed Maharajas, we’ve screwed moguls, and this man... this man is merely a London mongrel. So... Come on! Ideas?!

& Lorna: Have you never bought a soul for beads?

& Dumbarton: Ask him about the French experiment.....
Cholmondeley: The French experiment was— How can I put it? Entirely French in conception and execution. And therefore a total disaster.

& Chichester: Mr. Coop, even though I am black, I am not related by blood to every slave stolen from Africa.

& Musgrove: If it’s someone you fuck, please check if he came from east or west. In the east, there is cholera. You can catch it from fucking.
The Countess Musgrove: It isn’t. And there isn’t. And you can’t.

Nocturnal Animals

& Carlos: No one really likes what they do.
Susan: Then why do we do it?
Carlos: Because we’re driven. Maybe a bit insecure. We get into things when we’re young and because we think they mean something.
Susan: And then we find out that they don’t.
Carlos: Oh, Susan, enjoy the absurdity of our world. It’s a lot less painful. And believe me, our world is a lot less painful than the real world.

& Tony Hastings: Two of the things I love most about West Texas... no phones and no people.

& Susan: Well, you know my parents, right? They’re religious, conservative, sexist, racist, republican, materialistic, narcissistic, racist. I could keep going...

& Susan: Just don’t say I’m like my mom, okay? I don’t wanna be like her.

& Anne Sutton: The things you love about him now are the things you’ll hate in a few years.

& Anne Sutton: We all eventually turn into our mothers.

& Susan: Why are you so driven to write?
Edward: I guess it’s a way of keeping things alive. You know, saving things that will eventually die. And if I write it down, then, it’ll last forever.

& Susan: ... A couple of years in graduate school. It’s weird, I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately, and then recently he sent me this book that he’s written and it’s violent and it’s sad, and he titled it nocturnal animals and he dedicated it to me.

& Bobby Andes: I told you, I got lung cancer. It’s metastasized.
Tony Hastings: But you smoke all the time.
Bobby Andes: Yeah, well, that’s how it works. What’s the point in quitting now? I’ll be dead in a year.

& Tony Hastings: What are we gonna do?
Bobby Andes: It’s a question of how serious you are about seeing justice done. You get me?

    Delaney: No, it’s just begun.

& Godfrey: James. For God’s sake. The Art Of War. Poor motive, poor strategy... poor outcome.

& Delaney: I have a question. It concerns chemistry. I hope now is not inconvenient.

& Cholmondeley: You know, semen not ejaculated at the point of passion turns to poison and narrows the mind. Eventually, you become an ape.

& Cholmondeley: If you mix the pigeon shit and the cow shit at a ratio of around 60:40 in favour of the pigeon. I’d have to do tests. Then, if you burnt all that stack of wood today, you could soak the ash in 50 gallons of human piss and leave it for a minimum of a year. Then, my friend, you would, indeed, have gunpowder.
    Delaney: I don’t have a year.
Cholmondeley: Well, I have a theory that the introduction of several barrels of saltpetre that have already been refined at the start of the process can cut the leaching stage down to four weeks.
    Delaney: «Theory»?
Cholmondeley: Yes, but my theories are always right.

& Atticus: I want you to sign that right now before whatever it is in your blood wears off.

& Delaney: And I’m planning a robbery.
Atticus: At last. Back in the world of reason and rationality.

& Dumbarton: Let me just make the point... from an American point of view.

& Lorna: You know James Delaney?
    Zilpha: No.
Lorna: What? You mean in the way that no-one really knows James Delaney?

& Dr. Gus: .... Are you a hard-ass, badass, jackass, or no ass?
    Ben: Sorry?
Dr. Gus: And that is one of the three things that people say in that spot. It’s kind of like the «dick-for» thing. If you apologize after I’ve said something confusing, that is on you, my friend.

& Dr. Gus: And we will work on that. Replace «sorry» with, «What the fuck are you trying to say?»

& Chuck: Boy, it’s much better to be the lawyer... and go home when the hour’s up, get some sleep. If you’re the client, you’re up all night.

& Stephanie: It’s in my purview...
Wags: You are here to keep the Visigoths outside of the city walls, not to impugn judgment of the Caesar.

& Chuck: Nobody wants to gamble on this, get yoked to a loser. But you need to understand it is not a gamble, it is a calculated risk. So go naked into the street and snare me a thundering, monumental fucking case... because none of you are gonna get what you want until you cut yourselves open.

& Kate: I’ll give it to Chuck anyway because it’s the right thing to do.
Lonnie: It’s what Chuck wants. It doesn’t make it right.

& Taylor: What about a week-to-week deal?
Axelrod: Done. We’ll prorate the million. Nineteen thousand...
Taylor: Nineteen thousand, two hundred and thirty and seventy-seven cents..
    Axelrod: Hourly—
    Taylor: $240.38.
Axelrod: One hundred and fourteen and forty-seven cents. Eighty hours a week?
Taylor: There’s 168 hours in a week. That’s what you’re paying for... everything. Twenty-four seven.

& Rhoades, Sr.: Give it to Wendy. Show her you’re serious...
Chuck: No. No. That’s not a move. That’s not who she is.
Rhoades, Sr.: It’s a six-figure ring, son. It’s who they all are.

& Chuck: That bad, huh?
Wendy: I have this exercise I do with my clients called the 180. When they’ve really lost the thread, when they’re so fixated on a stock, they can’t see it’s a dumpster burning in front of them. Maybe they can cut their losses. But only a great few can go the opposite way, can pivot, and see that it’s really a short.... One-eighty, Chuck.

& Chuck: A man facing a firing squad has only two choices... accept it or push against his restraints. And I don’t accept anything.

& Attorney General: So go ahead and swing your hatchet at the case. I’ll just fire you in a few months after the searchlights pass. All you’ve bought is time.

& Axelrod: Now, before I decide, answer this. Are you a bastard? Because for you to have a chance against Rhoades, you need to be. Even though there will be lawyers, there are no fucking rules... not if you want to win. You will have to crawl through a river of shit and risk bleeding out a hundred yards short of victory. You have to be prepared to do things that are entirely outside the bounds of conventional morality.

The Ancient One: No, Mr. Strange. I know how to reorient the spirit... to better heal the body.

& The Ancient One: You’re a man looking at the world through a keyhole. You’ve spent your whole life trying to widen that keyhole. To see more. To know more. And now on hearing that it can be widened, in ways you can’t imagine, you reject the possibility.
Dr. Strange: No, I reject it because I do not believe in fairy tales about chakras or energy or the power of belief. There is no such thing as spirit! We are made of matter and nothing more. We’re just another tiny, momentary speck in an indifferent universe.

& The Ancient One: Arrogance and fear still keep you... from learning the simplest and most significant lesson of all.
    Dr. Strange: Which is?

& The Ancient One: Death is what gives life meaning. To know your days are numbered and your time is short. You’d think after all this time I’d be ready. But look at me. Stretching one moment out into a thousand... just so that I can watch the snow.

& Dr. Strange: Tea?
    Thor: I don’t drink tea.
Dr. Strange: What do you drink?
    Thor: Not tea.

& Dr. Strange: So, I keep a watch list... of individuals and beings from other realms that may be a threat to this world. Your adopted brother, Loki, is one of those beings.

Chris: Solving your problems isn’t our line. We deal in lead, friend.
Calvera: So do I. We’re in the same business, huh?
    Chris: Only as competitors.
    Calvera: Why not as partners?

& Chris: And the people in the village?
Calvera: What about them?.. Can men of our profession worry about things like that? May even be sacrilegious. If God didn’t want them sheared, he would not have made them sheep.

& Lee: We know what fear is. We live with it all our lives. Only the dead are without fear.

& Calvera: What I don’t understand is why a man like you took the job in the first place, hmm? Why, huh?
    Chris: I wonder myself.
Calvera: No, come on, come on, tell me why.
Vin: It’s like a fellow I once knew in El Paso. One day, he just took all his clothes off and jumped on a cactus. I asked him the same question: why?
    Calvera: And?
Vin: He said «It seemed to be a good idea at the time.»

& Old Man: Only the farmers have won. They remain forever. They are like the land itself. You helped rid them of Calvera, the way a strong wind helps rid them of locusts. You’re like the wind — blowing over the land and... passing on. Vaya con dios.
    Chris: Adios.

Free Radicals

Colony 2×7

& Frankie: To liberty.

& Katie: How’s everybody doing?

& Det Burke: We stand on the line between order and chaos. Start making compromises, and you put us all in the path to anarchy.

& Maya: Our group has a tradition. Before our missions, we make a toast... To liberty.

& Will: It’s called a makiwara. It’s Japanese. Martial artists used it to practice their striking. .... [and] Remember, a good punch comes from your hip, not from your arm.

& Broussard: This isn’t a colony. It’s a death camp.

& Will: How long do we have before the bloc’s empty?
Katie: Two years, three months, and nine days.
    Ω Wha? Another 2 seasons?

Taboo 1×3

& Dumbarton: The British want you dead. We want you alive though. That’s something, huh?

& Dumbarton: So what do you want?
    Delaney: Tea.
    Dumbarton: Tea?
Delaney: You tell Carlsbad that I want tea.

& Delaney: I will cede sovereignty of Nootka Sound to whichever nation offers me their monopoly... on the trade of furs for tea from Fort George to Canton. A monopoly. That’s what I want. All the tea in China.
Dumbarton: You should have said that from the start. Could have saved yourself a lot of pain.

& Atticus: So if we ain’t partners, what are we?
Delaney: Well, I’m a merchant, you’re my victualler.

& Sir Stuart: You knew?!
Solomon Coop: You have 104 spies in London... and we have 202.

& Solomon Coop: Always assume I just know.

& Stage Maid: Begging pardon, Sir, the show is almost done. Should any girl in the chorus have taken your eye, Sir, they’re sixpence each for one hour... Any girls who spoke are a half crown... There are boys in the chorus too, Sir, if you prefer...

& Godfrey: Blackmail?
Delaney: Yes. But between friends, so where’s the harm?

& Delaney: You seem to know such a lot for somebody who knows so very little.

& Delaney: Brace!.. Make this woman a room up right now.
Lorna Bow: I’d like a river view...
    Delaney: Granted.

& Thorne: In my profession, we believe in luck. In the business of ship insurance, luck is the Goddess of Profit. Your luck, Mr. Delaney, is poor.

New Best Friends

The Walking Dead 7×10

& Ezekiel: Just because you now know how to fight doesn’t mean you should seek one.

& Richard: I would die for the Kingdom.
    Daryl: Why don’t you?

& Jadis: We own your lives. You want to buy them back?

& Rick: You only have two options when it comes to the Saviors— either they kill you or they own you.

& Jadis: Tamiel, Brion... show Rick Up Up Up.

& Rosita: Who are these people? New best friends, I guess?

& Jadis: We take. We don’t bother.

& Carol: Goodbye, Your Majesty.

& Gabriel: What made you smile? What made you so... confident?
Rick: Someone showed me enemies can become friends.

& Carol: I couldn’t kill them... I could. I would. If they hurt any of our people— any more of them— that’s what I would do. And there wouldn’t be anything let of me after that.

& Carol: The Saviors— did they come?
    Daryl: Yeah.
Carol: ....... Did anyone get hurt? Is everybody okay?
Ω So much to catch up.

& Daryl: Everyone’s all right. Everyone’s all right...

& Daryl: Well, figure any guy that has a pet tiger can’t be that bad.

& Morgan: I’m sorry. I mean, I— I really am, but, uh... it can’t be me.
Daryl: Look, whatever it is you’re holding on to... it’s already gone, man. Wake the hell up.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

& Ransom: You all seem to know about this Liberty Valance. He’s a no-good, gun-packing, murdering thief, but the only advice you give me is to carry a gun. Well, I’m a lawyer! Ransom Stoddard, Attorney-at-Law. And the law is the only...
Nora: A little law and order around Shinbone wouldn’t hurt anyone.

& Appleyard: You all know I’m only the Town Marshal. What Liberty does out on the road ain’t no business of mine. Ain’t that right, Mr Lawyer?
Ransom: Well, I... Technically, I suppose the hold-up is a territorial offence.
    Appleyard: You mean I’m right?
    Ransom: Yes, Marshal, you’re right.
Appleyard: I knew it! I knew we’d be friends the minute I stepped in here!

& Appleyard: Now, you folks all know that, well, the jail’s only got one cell, and the lock’s broke, and I sleep in it.

& Ransom: I... I could teach you.
Hallie: What for? What good has reading and writing done you? Look at you. In an apron!

& Tom Doniphon: The bar is closed, Mr Editor, during voting. You can blame your lawyer friend. He says that’s one of the fundamental laws of democracy. No exception.
Peabody: No exceptions for the working press? Oh, that’s carrying democracy much too far.

& Peabody: No! I’m a newspaperman, not a politician! No, politicians are my meat! I build ’em up. I tear ’em down. But I wouldn’t be one. I couldn’t be one! It would destroy me!

& Peabody: Good people of Shinbone, I’m your conscience. I’m the still, small voice that thunders in the night. I’m your watchdog that howls against the wolves. I’m... I’m your father confessor! I’m... What else am I?
    Tom Doniphon: Town drunk?

& Peabody: No courage left. Well, courage can be purchased at yon tavern. But have we credit? Huh? That is the question. Have we credit? Well, credit is cheap.

& Peabody: Liberty Valance taking liberties with the liberty of the press?

& Doc Willoughby: Whisky, quick.
    — Here, sir...
    Doc Willoughby: Dead.

& Cassius Starbuckle: Mr Chairman, fellow delegates, ladies and gentlemen, I came here with a carefully prepared speech, but this is no time for oratory. Let me speak to you from the heart...

& Tom Doniphon: You talk too much. Think too much. Besides...

& Tom Doniphon: Go on back in there and take that nomination. You taught her how to read and write. Now give her something to read and write about!

& Scott: This is the west, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.

& Ransom: I’ll write to the officials of this railroad and thank them for their kindness and for going to all this trouble.
Jason: You think nothing of it. Nothing’s too good for the man who shot Liberty Valance.

Casus Belli

Homeland 6×5

& Franny: Do you like rabbits?
Quinn: Yes, I do. There’s a famous rabbit called Peter, like me.
    Franny: Peter Quinn?
    Quinn: Peter Rabbit.

& Carrie: I can’t say.
Conlin: Yeah. You can. Pretty much had to come from NSA. Unless the CIA has some monitoring program I don’t know about.

& Conlin: Get out of here! You hear me? You’re not wanted.

& Quinn: They’re listening.
