The Crash

Mad Men 6×8

& Sylvia: I don’t think you understand. Look, I’m too old to say this was a mistake, but I want you to try and be happy.
    Don: About what?
Sylvia: That you got away with it. When you start something like this, it takes a lot of convincing. It’s all about whether or not the other person has as much to lose as you do, because you want to be able to trust them when it’s over. And right now I’m wondering how I ever trusted you. I don’t really have a choice, do I, because you’ve got me. So if you ever really cared about me at all, knock it off!

& Stan: How old was he?
Roger: Older than you, younger than me. You either get used to it or stop thinking about it.

& Dr. Hecht: You’re exhausted. I’ll need you to turn around and drop your pants. This goes in the gluteus.
    Don: What is it?
Dr. Hecht: It’s an energy serum.
    Don: Oh? What’s in it?
Dr. Hecht: It’s proprietary. But all you need to know is it’s a complex vitamin superdose. It’s basically my own combination of B vitamins and a mild stimulant. You have a heart condition?
Don: No. I thought you said it was mild. What does it do?
Dr. Hecht: Well, a lot of things. But I think it’ll give you what Jim Cutler says you need... 24 to 72 hours of uninterrupted creative focus, energy, and confidence.
Ω Oh-oh. Something has to happen.

& Dr. Hecht: All anybody wants to know is what are you gonna call this place? “SCDPCGC”? That’s a mouthful.

& Ken: You think you’ll have new work on Monday?
Don: I’ll have 15 campaigns for you by then! But you have to get me in a room so I can look them in the eye. The timbre of my voice is as important as the content. I don’t know whether I’ll be forceful or submissive, but I must be there in the flesh.
Ken: You understand that I have no power whatsoever?
Don: That’s not true. Not if they like you.
Ken: Oh, they like me all right. I’m their favorite toy.
    Don: That’s your job.
Ken: It’s my job to take them to dinner at 80 miles an hour. It’s my job to stop a mile from the restaurant so they can have five pounds of crab legs and three bottles of beer apiece and then go get prime rib. It’s my job to go hunting so they can fire off their guns an inch from my ear and laugh when I get startled because it’s my job.
    Don: Where’d you learn that?
Ken: My mother... No, my first girlfriend.
Ω Yo. Such a tap dance. Bravo, Ken!

& Don: How’s it going?
    Peggy: What’s going on?
Don: I know you’re all feeling the darkness here today. But there’s no reason to give in. No matter what you’ve heard, this process will not take years. In my heart I know we cannot be defeated because there is an answer that will open the door. There is a way around this system. This is a test of our patience and commitment. One great idea can win someone over.
Peggy: Do you have any idea what the idea is?
Don: No. But I’m not gonna stop looking.
Ω Wow. Such a performance. Bravo, Don!

& Stan: I did it! I’ve got 666 ideas.
Michael: I’m wasting my Saturday with lunatics.

& Wendy: I’m here to make you feel better.
Don: I feel great, but I’m on a deadline.
    Wendy: “Does someone love me?”
    Don: What?
Wendy: That’s what your question was.
Don: Why would you say that?
    Wendy: That’s everyone’s question.

& Bobby: Are we allowed to watch TV?
    Sally: I think she’s lying.
    Bobby: Are we Negroes?

& Don: What is that thing that draws them? ... It’s a history. And it may not even be with that person, but it’s... it’s like a... well, it’s bigger than that.
Michael: And that makes them buy a car?
Don: If this strategy is successful, it’s way bigger than a car. It’s everything. I keep thinking about the basic principle of advertising. There’s entertainment and you stick the ad in the middle of the entertainment like a little respite. It’s a bargain. They’re getting the entertainment for free. All they have to do is listen to the message. But what if they don’t take the bargain at all?.. What if they’re suddenly bored of the entertainment?.. What if they don’t- what if they turn off the TV?
Michael: You gotta get your foot in the door.
Don: Exactly! So, how do I do that? Let’s say I get her face to face. How do I capture her imagination? I have a sentence, maybe two.
    Peggy: Who’s “her”?
Michael: Promise them everything. You know, you’re gonna change their life. You’re gonna take away their pain.
    Don: That’s good.
Michael: Then you hit ’em with the one-two punch.
Don: What’s the answer to all of life’s problems?
    Michael: A Chevy.
    Don: No, it’s not.
    Michael: Then it’s oatmeal?
    Don: No.
Peggy: What have you been doing the last three days? Have you been working on Chevy at all?
    Don: I gotta go.

& Peggy: You wanna get someone in here who can draw?
Don: No, I don’t have time for art.
Michael: He’s happy. Now we can relax.

& Sylvia: How are you?
    Don: Busy.

& Don: Call me around 1970 when they’re ready to make an ad.
Ted: What are you talking about? I can’t do this by myself.
Don: I’m sorry, Ted. But every time we get a car, this place turns into a whorehouse.

Spartacus: Vengeance

Season 2 Episode 1

& Glaber: This is a simple tumultus, Albinius. Undeserving the attentions of a praetor.
Albinius: You brought the Thracian to Roman soil, Gaius. You granted patronage to that grinning shit Batiatus a breath before his house fell to massacre. A massacre my daughter barely fucking escaped! ... Attend to this. Or see yourself rise no further within the Senate.

& Spartacus: Have you had sight of Doctore?
Crixus: The ludus was his life’s blood. To lay eyes upon those who have spilled it... It would salt mortal wound.

& Oenemaus: As I said, I have nothing of worth.

& Spartacus: We must proceed with caution.
Crixus: You?.. Advising caution?! The tempest shouts for the breeze to calm itself.

& Ilithyia: Gaius, why have I been brought here? To this house? ...
Glaber: This is our home now, Ilithyia... Until Spartacus falls.
Ω That came in handy This House.

& Spartacus: Doctore...
Oenemaus: That is no longer my title.
    Spartacus: Where do you go?
Oenemaus: There is but one place... For an animal without honor.

& Ilithyia: Everyone believed you dead, smashed upon the cliffs... Bits of bone and flesh your only testament. How did you survive, all alone?.. Lucretia...
Lucretia: We are friends. Are we not?
    Ilithyia: The very best.

& Mira: This is why we are yet in Capua... You hoped they would send Glaber.
Spartacus: No. I prayed for it.

& Mira: We need a leader. Not some angry boy who can barely piss without splashing everyone about him.

& Spartacus: The decision’s been made. We must stand as one. Or fall divided. A lesson hard learned. Shackle will be struck from every slave upon our path. We will see our numbers grow. And when they have become legion, we will face Glaber, and the hordes of Rome again. And the gods shall weep for their suffering.

Second Sons

Game of Thrones 3×8

& Arya: Is that the Blackwater?
“The Dog,” Clegane: The Blackwater? Where do you think I’m taking you?
Arya: Back to King’s Landing to Joffrey and the queen.
“The Dog,” Clegane: Fuck Joffrey. Fuck the queen.

& Daenerys: I’d like to talk to the Titan’s Bastard about winning.
Ser Barristan: He may not agree to meet.
Daenerys: He will. A man who fights for gold can’t afford to lose to a girl.

& Daenerys: You’ll have gold and castles and lordships of your choosing when I take back the Seven Kingdoms.
Daario Naharis: You have no ships. You have no siege weapons. You have no cavalry.
Daenerys: A fortnight ago, I had no army. A year ago, I had no dragons. You have two days to decide.

& Stannis: What do you mean to do with him?
Melisandre: You know what I mean to do with him.
Stannis: Then why bathe him and dress him in fine clothes? If it needs to be done, do it. Don’t torture the boy.
Melisandre: Have you ever slaughtered a lamb, my king?
    Stannis: No.
Melisandre: If the lamb sees the knife, she panics. Her panic seeps into her meat, darkens it, fouls the flavor.
    Stannis: You’ve slaughtered many lambs?
Melisandre: And none have seen the blade.

& Davos: She’s going to kill him.
    Stannis: Sacrifice him.
Davos: Forgive me, Your Grace, I’m not a learned man, but is there a difference between kill and sacrifice?

& Stannis: I never asked for this. No more than I asked to be king. We do not choose our destiny, but we must do our duty, no? Great or small, we must do our duty.

& Davos: When my son was five he said to me, “I don’t ever want to die.” I wanted to say to him, “You won’t, child. You won’t ever.” I hated the idea of him lying awake in the dark, afraid. I think mothers and fathers made up the gods because they wanted their children to sleep through the night.

& Mero of Braavos, “The Titan’s Bastard”: Daario Naharis, the whore who doesn’t like whores.
Daario: I like them very much. I just refuse to pay them. And I’m no whore, my friend.
Mero: She sells her sheath and you sell your blade. What’s the difference?
    Daario: I fight for beauty.
Mero: For beauty? We fight for gold.
Daario: The gods gave men two gifts to entertain ourselves before we die... the thrill of fucking a woman who wants to be fucked and the thrill of killing a man who wants to kill you.

& Sansa: I hope I will not disappoint you, my lord.
Tyrion: No, don’t. You don’t have to speak to me as a prisoner anymore. You won’t be a prisoner after today. You’ll be my wife. I suppose... that’s... a different kind of prison.

& Tyrion: Do you drink wine?
    Sansa: When I have to.
Tyrion: Well, today you have to.

& Margaery: You look radiant, Your Grace.
    Cersei: Radiant? Why radiant?
Margaery: It’s the word that came to mind. We’re going to be sisters soon. We should be friends.

& Cersei: You know the song “The Rains of Castamere”?
Margaery: Of course. They play it so often here at court.
Cersei: So you know the story of House Reyne of Castamere?
Margaery: Not as well as you, I’m sure.
Cersei: House Reyne was a powerful family. Very wealthy. The second wealthiest in Westeros. Aren’t the Tyrells the second wealthiest family in Westeros now?.. Of course, ambitious climbers don’t want to stop on the second highest rung. If only you could take that final step, you’d see further than all the rest. You’d be alone with nothing but blue sky above you.

& Cersei: So Lord Reyne built a castle as grand as Casterly Rock. He gave his wife diamonds larger than any my mother ever wore. And finally one day, he rebelled against my father. Do you know where House Reyne is now?
    Margaery: Gone.
Cersei: Gone. A gentle word. Why not say slaughtered? Every man, woman, and child put to the sword. I remember seeing their bodies hanging high above the gates of Casterly Rock. My father let them rot up there all summer. It was a long summer.
“And now the rains weep o’er their halls,
and not a soul to hear.”
If you ever call me sister again... I’ll have you strangled in your sleep.

Ω “The Rains of Castamere”, the next episode. Someone must be ready.

& Gendry: That’s good. That’s really good.
Melisandre: Where do you think it’s from?
    Gendry: I couldn’t even guess.
Melisandre: Doesn’t matter, does it? It’s the real thing or it’s not. You only need a tongue to tell the difference.

& Melisandre: Let me show you what you have inside you. Come fight death with me.

& Lady Olenna: So their son will be your nephew. After you’re wed to Cersei, of course. And you will be the king’s stepfather and brother-in-law. When you marry the king, Joffrey’s mother will become his sister-in-law and your son will be Loras’ nephew?.. Grandson?.. I’m not sure. But your brother will become your father-in-law. That much is beyond dispute.

& Lord Tywin: You seem rather drunk.
Tyrion: Rather less than I plan to be. Isn’t it a man’s duty to be drunk at his own wedding?

& Loras: Well... My father once told me-
Cersei: Nobody cares what your father once told you.

& Tyrion: There... will be... no bedding ceremony.
Joffrey: There will be if I command it!
Tyrion: Then you’ll be fucking your own bride with a wooden cock.

& Tyrion: A bad joke, Your Grace. Made out of envy of your own royal manhood. Mine is so small. My poor wife won’t even know I’m there.
Lord Tywin: Your uncle is clearly quite drunk, Your Grace.
Tyrion: I am. Guilty. But... but it is my wedding night. My tiny drunk cock and I have a job to do.

& Tyrion: Astoundingly long.
    Sansa: What?
    Tyrion: Neck. You have one.

& Tyrion: How old are you exactly?
    Sansa: 14.
Tyrion: Well, talk won’t make you any older.

& Tyrion: Stop. I can’t. I could, I won’t.

& Tyrion: I won’t share your bed. Not until you want me to.
Sansa: What if I never want you to?
Tyrion: .... And so my watch begins.

& Daenerys: What do you want?
    Daario: You.

& Daenerys: Why?
    Daario: We had philosophical differences.
    Daenerys: Over what?
    Daario: Your beauty.

& Irene: Shame, really. The world would be a more interesting place with a few new Turners in it.

& Sherlock: Do you do original work?
Irene: What could I add to all this? What could anyone?

& Irene: I’ve already told you that you’re beautiful, and I can see the way you’re looking at me. Why would we need to leave this apartment to enjoy each other’s company?
Sherlock: A game with proper stakes then.

& Sherlock: Moriarty is quite clearly smarter than I am. A man should know when he’s beaten.

& Sherlock: I have no need of a sponsor to keep me from turning to heroin. I have my duties. Now go. My water turns hot, your case grows cold.

& Watson: Somebody had to buy this for Irene, right? If we figure out where it came from, maybe we can find out who was watching her.
Detective Bell: Feels just like having Holmes here, doesn’t it?
    Captain Gregson: Hmm.

& Irene: What’s up?
Sherlock: Yes, well, it’s been several weeks since our meeting-turned-interrogation turned... sexual marathon. A memorable afternoon and evening. I’m sure you’d agree.

& Sherlock: It seems to me, we had an experience worth repeating. Just... I’m curious as to why you differ.
Irene: I don’t differ. I reject your whole premise. Our afternoon was one of the most unique and memorable of my life. It can’t be repeated. We could try, but that’s just a game of diminishing returns, isn’t it? I’d rather just remember it the way it was.

& Irene: Is this all I am now? A piece of exercise equipment for your brain?
Sherlock: You’re the greatest piece of exercise equipment a man could ever hope to throw a leg over.
    Irene: That’s Keats, right?
    Sherlock: ... You’re right.

& Sherlock: I’m being terribly rude.
Irene: Yes, but you’re typically quite rude. I’m trying to figure out why it doesn’t bother me.
Sherlock: ’Cause you’re rude. Well, I mean, you’re... you’re honest. Simple minds they always confused great honesty with great rudeness.

& Sherlock: I came to say good-bye.
Watson: I don’t understand. How-how long will you be gone?
Sherlock: That’s difficult to say. If you could dismantle Moriarty’s empire in my absence, thereby guaranteeing Irene’s safety, that would go a long way to expediting my return.

& Sherlock: So why kill me now? Not then?
Isaac Proctor: I was under orders that day. Moriarty said you weren’t to be harmed. But then, a few hours ago, she tried to have me killed.
    Sherlock: “She”?
Irene: Bet you wish you’d run away with me when you had the chance.
    Sherlock: ... Moriarty.

& Moriarty: The truth is, I see everything you do. I feel it. Makes the world quite dull, no? Looking at a man, and knowing all his secrets.
Sherlock: So you’re saying we’re the same.
Moriarty: I’m saying I’m better. And that’s why I let you live, back in London.

& Moriarty: Same old Sherlock. You look at people and you see puzzles. I see games. You? You’re a game I’ll win every time.

& Sherlock: I’ll stop you.
Moriarty: I would never kill you. Not in a million years. You may not be as unique as you thought, darling, but you’re still a work of art. I appreciate art. What I-I can do... what I will do... is hurt you. Worse than I did before.

& Sherlock: Watson, you’re here. Excellent. There’s so much I need to tell you.

& Sherlock: What’s the point of living with a former surgeon if she can’t stitch the occasional bullet hole?

& Watson: You need to be treated for the pain.
Sherlock: May I remind you I am a recovering drug addict?
Watson: May I remind you that there is such a thing as non-addictive painkillers?
Sherlock: How good can they be if they’re non-addictive?

& Sherlock: I’ve come to believe it might be a good thing in the long run.
Detective Bell: Good thing?.. Must be some interesting math you’re doing.
Sherlock: Well, I’ve never had a nemesis before. Not a proper one. Quite looking forward to it. I imagine it to be tremendously energizing.

& Sherlock: Less talking, Watson, more tending.
Watson: Okay. What’s the pain like today?
Sherlock: It’s fine. It’s barely even noticeable.
Watson: Give me a number... one to ten.
Sherlock: Pi. It’s a mathematical constant that is approximately equal to... three point one four.
Watson: Three point one four, yes. If you’re saying the pain is about three, I don’t believe you.

& Sherlock: You Watson women and your heels. Your mother’s in her early 60s. Should have resigned herself to flats years ago.

& Moriarty: You’re not afraid of me?
Watson: Too angry to be afraid.

& Moriarty: Talk to Sherlock. Tell him I’ll only be here for a few more days. After that, he can have his city back. He can have this whole insipid country back.
Watson: You’re afraid of him. If you weren’t, you wouldn’t have gone to so much trouble.
Moriarty: ... My dear Watson, I’m afraid of what he might force me to do.

& Theophilus: In all my years of smuggling, I never handled one of these.
Moriarty: It’s simple. You just point and shoot.

& Watson: Sherlock! You’re slamming your hand into your bullet wound.
Sherlock: I was having problems staying awake and I tried reasoning with my hypothalamus, but... in the end, it required corporal punishment.

& Watson: What say we go stop this bitch?

& Sherlock: We are... the same. You and I. We both made the same mistake. We fell in love. It made us stupid.

& Sherlock: My nemesis has been defeated. Is that about the long and the short of it?
Watson: Yes. Yes. So, does that mean you need to find a new nemesis, or is this more of a lifetime appointment?

& Sherlock: As the discoverer of the species, the privilege of naming the creatures falls to me. Allow me to introduce you to Euglassa Watsonia.
Watson: You named a bee after me? You named a bee after me.

Gliding Over All

Breaking Bad 5×8

& Jesse: So what’s the story? You get to Mike?
    Walter: Mm-hmm.
    Jesse: He get out safe?
    Walter: He’s gone.

& Jesse: What about those nine guys in jail? They got no reason not to talk now. So what do we do?
Walter: „We”? Who’s „we”? There is no „we,” Jesse. I’m the only vote left, and I’ll handle it.

& Lydia: With Fring, my end was gonna be 30 percent, which I believe is more than fair.
    Walter: Okay.
Lydia: Trust me, if you do this...
Walter: Lydia, learn to take yes for an answer.

& Uncle Jack: You know, I gotta be straight with you, man. Taking out all these guys is doable. But hitting them in three separate jails all within two minutes? Whacking Bin Laden wasn’t this complicated.

& Uncle Jack: It can be done, just not the way you want it.
Walter: It can be done exactly how I want it. The only question is, are you the man to do it? Figure it out. That’s what I’m paying you for.
Ω H-O-R-R-O-R

& Hank: Tagging trees is a lot better than chasing monsters.
Ω Exactly, monsters.

& Marie: Maybe at this point, the best way to help repair the family would be to repair the family, you know?

& Skyler: Walt... This is it. This is what you’ve been working for.

& Walter: How much is this?
Skyler: I have no earthly idea. I truly don’t. I just stack it up, keep it dry, spray it for silverfish. There is more money here than we could spend in ten lifetimes.

& Skyler: Please tell me... How much is enough? How big does this pile have to be?

& Walter: I’m out... I’m out.

The Poisoned Chalice

The Borgias 1×1

& — Back to Spain, Borgia! You’ve had your day in Rome. You can’t wring any more favours from a dead pope.
Juan: I was born here, as far as I’m aware.
    — If a pig is born in a stable, does that make him a horse?

& Vanozza: Your father found ways to love and care for us in this house, but I’m not sure as pope he can do the same.
Juan: As pope, he can do what he wants.
Vanozza: Are you sure? Kings and popes and emperors belong to their peoples, not to their families.
Cesare: So, we allow the election to run its course, and he won’t be pope.
Vanozza: What other course is there? It’s in the hands of God.
Cesare: It’s in the hands of the College of Cardinals, Mother. It’s not quite the same thing.

& Della Rovere: You’ve performed your duties as Vice-Chancellor admirably. The Church has need of your... organizational genius. But... She has other needs as well.
    Borgia: And they would be?
    Della Rovere: Honesty. Probity. Goodness.
Borgia: You find me lacking in those qualities?
Della Rovere: Yes. And so I shall fight you. To the end, and beyond that, if need be, with any means at my disposal.
Borgia: I do tend to win whatever battles I fight. But what talk we of fighting? It is all in God’s hands.

& Vanozza: I always knew this day would come. As long as you are with me in spirit...
    Borgia: I always will be.
Vanozza: And with no one else.
Borgia: That is equally impossible, Vannozza.
Vanozza: So we take vows of chastity along with your new status? Must we take vows of poverty too?
    Borgia: Poverty? God forbid!

& Cesare: As the pope’s daughter, you will have every prince of Europe vying for your hand... They may care very little for your heart.

& Lucrezia: Does Papa have so many enemies?
Cesare: As our father, perhaps not. But as pope...

& Borgia: I am Rodrigo Borgia no longer. I am Alexander Sixtus.
Cesare: But you know who you are. My father, still.
Borgia: I am no longer “I”. I am... “we”.

& Borgia: We felt so... alone out there. When the crown touched our head. Humbled, even. Even frightened.
    Cesare: You surprise me, Father.
Borgia: You would surprise yourself if such destiny ever brushed against you. Quite alone... with just the... silence of God... as your witness.

& Borgia: You must help me, Cesare. You must help me interpret... the great silence of God.

& Della Rovere: The King of France must be aware, Ambassador, that we have placed the papal mitre in the hands of an ape.
Ambassador: He has hopes, Cardinal, that the office brings its own grace with it, and that the grace of God can transform the worst of men.
Della Rovere: And if it doesn’t?
Ambassador: We will observe with interest what harm a mitred ape can do.

& Cesare: I propose another toast. To monkeys.
    Della Rovere: Monkeys?
Cesare: They lick your hand one minute, bite your neck the next. And everyone knows what you do with the monkey that bites you.
Della Rovere: And what do you do with the monkey that bites you?
Cesare: .... You wring its neck.

& Cesare: That poison was meant for us.
Borgia: You don’t poison the Pope!
Cesare: Do you know what the gossips are calling you? “The mitred ape”. Half of Rome is waiting to celebrate your demise.
Borgia: You would poison a dying dog! Not the heir to Saint Peter!
Cesare: The idea offends you, then?
Borgia: It offends me, it offends nature, it offends God Himself!
Cesare: Then God will take his revenge.
Borgia: Yes he will... with our help!

& Borgia: Stop that. You have done penance enough.
Giulia Farnese: Who then will forgive us, Your Holiness?
    Borgia: God will.

& Borgia: You’re so beautiful, Giulia Farnese... I would have you painted.

& Giulia Farnese: It’s a gift. From Giulia to Lucrezia.
Lucrezia: Can I kiss you, then?
Giulia Farnese: Only if we are to be friends.
    Lucrezia: We are friends already.

& Cesare: You are aware, Holy Father, of the plots against you?
Borgia: Oh, what would Rome be without a good plot?
Cesare: The College of Cardinals is split down the middle.
Borgia: What? Well, perhaps we need some more cardinals.

& Johannes: It is the pope’s prerogative to appoint whom he wishes, Your Holiness. To whatever number he wishes?
Borgia: Ah, well, how many cardinals did His Holiness have in mind? How many would be needed to make it safe for our papacy?

& Johannes: When asked for an opinion, Your Holiness, you know that I must provide it.
Borgia: Ah. So, your opinion, then. How many new cardinals to preserve our papacy?
Johannes: Umm... A baker’s dozen, I would say.
Borgia: Thirteen! And we can appoint them all at once? Without the vote of conclave?
Johannes: Such a great number would need a precedent.
    Borgia: Oh. Find one, then.

& Lucrezia: My mother hates you.
Giulia Farnese: You will learn, my dear, as women, we control so little of our destiny. Men do.
    Lucrezia: And?
Giulia Farnese: The outcome is, we hate each other. But we should not.
Lucrezia: Who should we hate, then? Men?
Giulia Farnese: No, my love. It’s in our nature to love them. But we should protect ourselves against them. Against our feelings towards them. We will all of us, one day, be replaced.

& Lucrezia: What weapons do I have with which to protect myself?
    Giulia Farnese: Your beauty.
    Lucrezia: Is that a weapon?
Giulia Farnese: It can be deadly, when well used. But beauty doesn’t last forever. Gone, like the snows of last year.
    Lucrezia: What else?
Giulia Farnese: When beauty fades? Your wit. Your intelligence.
Lucrezia: And I have those weapons?
Giulia Farnese: Oh, in abundance. You should cultivate them. You will be married some day. You may need them... sooner than you think.

& Cesare: Would God forgive us, Micheletto?..
Micheletto: I know not the ways of God, My Lord.
Cesare: But you know the ways of silence.

& Borgia: ...And we decree bullfighting will be permitted within the walls of Rome on public festivals and the last Thursday of every month. And, finally, the main business to hand...

& Cesare: Whom can one trust, in this Rome of ours?
Micheletto: I believe trust needs to be earned, My Lord.
Cesare: Perhaps. And perhaps it has been.

Breaking Bad 5×7

& Walter: I know all about your operation. My partners here tell me that you produce a meth that’s 70% pure, if you’re lucky. What I produce is 99.1% pure.
    Declan: So?
Walter: So... it’s grade school T-Ball versus the New York Yankees. Yours is, uh, just some tepid, off-brand, generic cola. What I’m making is classic Coke.

& Walter: Do you really wanna live in a world without Coca Cola?

& Walter: We have 40 pounds of product ready to ship, ready to go. Are you ready?
Declan: Who the hell are ya?
Walter: You know. You all know exactly who I am. Say my name.
Declan: Do what? I don’t... I don’t have a damn clue who the hell you are.
Walter: Yeah, you do. I’m the cook. I’m the man who killed Gus Fring.
Declan: Bullshit. Cartel got Fring... Are you sure? .......
Walter: That’s right. Now... Say. My. Name.
    Declan: Heisenberg.
    Walter: You’re goddamn right.

& Jesse: Hey. I appreciate the kind words, but I’m out too, remember?
    Walter: I know. We’ll talk.

& Jesse: Hey, Mrs. White... Vamonos.
    Skyler: I wish...

& Walter: I just... I just realized that Lydia has the names. I can get them from her. I’m sorry, Mike. This... this whole thing could’ve been avoided...
Mike: Shut the fuck up. Let me die in peace.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Season 1 Episode 13
(Season Finale)

& Batiatus: My heart to Legatus Glaber and his support. In the hopes that you will share it in the coming days, I present a gift of blood! Two legends of the arena, to face each other in the mission! No quarter given! No mercy shown! Behold, Crixus! The savage Gaul! And who shall attempt to tame him? There can be but one man. Spartacus! Slayer of the Shadow of Death!

& Rhaskos: You speak of dangerous things.
Spartacus: We live in dangerous times.

& Lucretia: ...Then we must ensure Spartacus victorious. And Crixus fades from memory.

& Doctore: Dominus releases me from the bonds of servitude, to assume mantle as lanista.
Crixus: It is a title well deserved.
Doctore: Together we will restore honor to this ludus... And Naevia to your arms. Spartacus but stands in your way.
    Crixus: Then he shall fall.

& Ilithyia: My hands are no longer my own and now you seize my fucking tongue?
Lucretia: I would not have it flap about, absent direction.
Ilithyia: How much longer must I suffer your indignities?
Lucretia: While breath gives life to my command.
    Ilithyia: As you wish, then.

& Batiatus: It is a marvel. That something so slight could topple a legend.
Ashur: All men fall. It is but time and method that differ.

& Batiatus: The noble House of Batiatus stands humbled... Humbled by the fortunes the gods have seen fit to shower upon us...
Lucretia: I should use “blessings” instead. “Fortune” has but connotation of coin.
    Batiatus: Blessings, then.

& Spartacus: Join me, brother. And we shall see the House of Batiatus fall.

& Doctore: I have given my life to this ludus!
Crixus: No, they stole it from you. From all of us.

& Doctore: Is this not enough? How many more must die?
Spartacus: I would see but one.

& Spartacus: I know not all of you wished this. Yet it is done. It is done. Your lives are your own. Forge your own path... Or join with us, and together we shall see Rome tremble.

Discworld: The Last Continent

De Marathon

& Hannie: Where did you used to work?
    Aniet: On the Keile Road.
    Hannie: At a company, or...?
Aniet: Yeah, sort of a company. But I also acted in some movies.
    Hannie: Oh, lovely.
Aniet: Well, it wasn’t really about love. The pay was all right. It’s all over and done with, though. I got pregnant, so they didn’t want me anymore. Because then they can’t get their fist in anymore.

& Nel: Did you hear about Marie?
    Hannie: No.
    Nel: Everything taken away.
    Hannie: At Marie’s? By Moroccans?
Nel: No, by the doctor. The entire henhouse removed.

& Nel: What kind of meat is it?
    Gerard: Halal pork, I think.

& Nico: How long is that marathon, anyway?
    Youssoef: 42km... And 195m.
Leo: That’s already far by car.
    Gerard: Goddammit!

& Nico: I kinda liked it.
Leo: Fuck off, man. Maybe it’s the thin air. How high up is Rotterdam?
Gerard: Unbelievable. We’ve only been at it for a few minutes.
Kees: I won’t do it. I really won’t do it.
Youssoef: You have to build it up. You’re training your metabolism. You got stuck in your phosphate system. You need to go to the lactic acid system and then the oxygen system... for aerobic breakdown. Watch your nutrition. A lot of carbs beforehand. Monosaccharides during running to maintain your glucose level. Every kind of running has its own energy system. For running the marathon, you have to train the right engine. Become an efficient diesel engine, not a turbo injection engine.
Leo: Maybe it’s me, Yous, but for an Egyptian with a club foot you’re talking too much.

& Youssoef: You’re going to run the 30km. If you can handle that... you can handle the marathon. You never train the last 12 km. Then it’s down to your character. Some people say that during the marathon you meet yourself. That’s bullshit. During the marathon you determine who you are. With every meter, every step, you determine who you are. Go-getters. Hotshots. You fight for every meter. You fight for every centimeter. You turn the asphalt to dust.

The Bon Voyage Reaction

The Big Bang Theory 6×24

Season Finale

& Sheldon: I used to be uncomfortable around people, but then I learned a trick. I pretend everyone I meet is a beloved character from Star Trek.
Leonard: How’s that been working for you?
Sheldon: Oh, like a charm, unnamed crewman in a red shirt.

& Howard: Leonard, I may have gotten you a job.
    Leonard: I have a job.
    Howard: Yes, he does.
Sheldon: He caters to my every whim.
Howard: No, in a couple of weeks, Stephen Hawking’s team is sending an expedition to the North Sea to test hydrodynamic simulations of black holes. One of their experimental physicists dropped out, and I recommended you.

& Raj: Hey, don’t discourage him. This is a fantastic opportunity.
Sheldon: No one asked you, Uhura.

& Sheldon: Fine, no more drowning talk. I’ll change the subject. Oh. Who do you think would win in a fight... you or a shark?

& Leonard: There is nothing you can say that’s going to stop me.
Sheldon: Very well. Things between you and Penny have never been better. I hope four months apart doesn’t change anything...

& Penny: Wow. Okay. Four months.
Leonard: Yeah. And I’m a little worried because things between us have been so great, and I’d hate to do anything that screws that up.
Penny: Oh, sweetie, if you’re gonna screw things up, it’s gonna be while you’re here, not while you’re away.

& Penny: No. I mean, look, you have to go. It sounds like an amazing opportunity. And I’m just basing that on how much I didn’t understand what you said about it.

& Leonard: Anyway, you guys really don’t need to make a big deal.
Sheldon: Leonard, you’re being selfish. We need to give you a proper send-off so we’ll have closure when you die at sea and crabs eat your face.
    Penny: Sheldon, sweetie, shut up.
Bernadette: You know, one of the things that helped me get through Howard being in space for so long was getting married before he left.
    Penny: Bernadette, sweetie, shut up.

& Raj: Okay. I have a request to make.
Amy: And now he can talk. I want to cut open your brain and see what the heck’s going on in there.

& Raj: Friday night, my friends are having a party.
    Lucy: A party?!
Raj: A little one! It’s-it’s a farewell for Leonard, so all the attention will be on him. If you wear something brown and sit on the couch, they won’t even know you’re there.

& Raj: My friends are like my family. Unless you don’t like them; in which case, they’re dead to me!

& Bernadette: So, have you ever spent a long time on a boat before?
    Leonard: Yeah.
Bernadette: Are you referring to the time we got stuck on the Small World ride at Disneyland?
    Leonard: Yeah.

& Howard: I’m proud of you, Leonard. Working out on the North Sea for months... that’s really something.
Leonard: I know. As far as science goes, this is the adventure of a lifetime.
Howard: Maybe your lifetime... I went to space.
    Leonard: It’s not a competition.
Howard: You’re right, you’re right. I’m really proud of you, and... I’m gonna miss you when you’re gone. And space beats water.

& Howard: It was really nice of you to try to be happy for Leonard.
    Sheldon: Mm. Thank you.
Howard: It must’ve killed you when I went to space.

& Sheldon: It did not kill me when you went to space. Monkeys went to space.

& Penny: I love you.
    Leonard: I love you, too.
Sheldon: Don’t worry, Officer. They just love each other. We’re not smuggling drugs.

& Raj: What’s... what is wrong with me? Why-why can’t I ever have love?
    Penny: You will.
    Raj: No, I... I won’t. I’m-I’m unlovable.

& Wilf: Reg, you’ve got to try this jam. It is unbelievable. It’s like eating Christmas.

& Wilf: I read somewhere that the average man thinks of sex every seven seconds.
    Reggie: Do you?
Wilf: I wish it was only every seven seconds.

& Wilf: Boom, boom, chh! Reg, you might as well get used to it, rap’s here to stay.
Reggie: Oh, I don’t think it is.
Wilf: That’s what you said about The Beatles.
    Reggie: Well, it isn’t music.
    Wilf: They think it is.
    Reggie: Who?
Wilf: The kids you’re talking to.

& Cissy: Who was it who said, ’Old age is not for sissies’? I always remember that, you know, because it’s my name... and ’sissies’.

& Reggie: I always wanted to sing Wagner — Tristan. Never came my way.
Wilf: Wagner! The British should stick to British composers... like Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi.

& Reggie: Now I’d like to ask if any of you have a favourite singer. Don’t be shy.
    — ..... Lady Gaga?
    Reggie: Lady Ga-who?

& Jean: This is not a retirement home, this is a madhouse.

& Cissy: Must be lovely to have visitors, like family. Will you, Jean, have visitors?
    Jean: The grounds are nice.
    Cissy: Yes. Yes.

& Jean: Why do we have to get old?
    Reggie: That’s what people do.

& Simon: We weren’t doing anything!
    Jean: Neither were we.

& Jean: I mean, what were you thinking of? Why did you ask me out to dinner? Why didn’t you just say you want us, average age, what, 1998 to sing the quartet from Rigoletto? ’It’s an honour...’ It’s not an honour. It’s insanity. Is this your idea of revenge?.. I’m going to say something very rude to you. Fuck you!.. And you!

& Jean: It was the biggest mistake of my life.
Cissy: Darling girl, you still have your future.
Jean: There’s not a lot of it. Most of it’s been.

& Jean: We’re both very old.
    Reggie: Then let’s get married.

The Longest Day

Revolution 1×17

& Miles: What’s wrong?
Nora: Look, we’re winning a few fights. But odds are, once this thing’s out, one of us is gonna watch the other one die. So why make it harder?

& Neville: No matter how hard you try, you are never gonna get rid of me. I think I’ll stick around... You and I are gonna be together for a very long time.

& Miles: Can Ben get the lights back on, or can’t he?
Rachel: We both can... Miles, what did you think, that I was just sitting around making him Martinis? I was project lead.

& Rachel: The capsule is first-generation nanotech. It kept Danny alive. Fixed his lung tissue. You can reprogram it to do almost anything... Stitch bone, heal skin... Like fix my leg, if it works.
    Aaron: And if it doesn’t?
Rachel: Could cook us from the inside or... Ignite the air. Hard to say.

& Rachel: You think that we haven’t heard the stories? General Matheson, the butcher of Baltimore. You think that we’re going to give you the ability to kill more people? You are a monster. We are ashamed to call you one of our family.

& Miles: Maybe nobody heard that.

& Jason: I don’t understand you. Why are you doing this?
Neville: Look... I know what kind of man I am. I have done every bad thing in the good book. I have lied, I have stolen, I have killed, and worse. I don’t care if you’re the devil himself, everyone draws a line somewhere, and leaving my only son to die alone... I guess that’s where I draw the line.

& Aaron: What is the point of... of having power if we can’t at least try to help people?
Rachel: What makes you think that I’m in it to help people?

& Miles: Rachel... You know how bad this is gonna get for you?

& President Foster: Monroe is gonna come marching into this city like Sherman! Carpet bomb my streets and lay claim to the rubble. I have an obligation to save as many of my people as I can. So... I don’t know if you have any brilliant ideas, but if you do, it’s time to hear them, because otherwise... I’m gonna surrender.

& Monroe: Nora... What a pleasure to see you again.

White Bear

Black Mirror 2×2

& Jem: There was a signal... Like pictures, flashing pictures. They just appeared on every TV, every computer, anything with a screen. They did something to people. Like, almost everybody just became onlookers, started watching, filming stuff, like spectators who don’t give a shit about what happens. That’s, like, nine out of ten people now.

& Victoria Skillane: So this... This thing on the TV, the...
    Jem: The signal.
Victoria Skillane: That’s what’s making them act like this?
Jem: I guess they were always like that underneath. Just needed the rules to change, for no-one to intervene.

& Victoria Skillane: Help me, please. I’m a human being!
Jem: They’re not going to help you. They’re going to watch.

& Baxter: Good evening, citizens! Thank you so much for coming tonight. OK! We’re at the climax of our day. Take as many photographs as you want, take as many photographs as you can, but most importantly, what I need from you is to shout and scream and let that bitch know that youse are out here. Let’s get this show on the road!

& Victoria Skillane: Kill me. Please just kill me. Please...
Baxter: That’s what you always say.

& Peggy: Are you still in there?
Joan: Yes, everything keeps changing out here, but everything’s the same in there.
    Peggy: Except you’re a partner.
Joan: And you’re the copy chief.

& Peggy: How’s your little boy?
Joan: He’s the man in my life. How’s yours?
Peggy: Oh, he’s good. We bought a building together to live in. We bought a building to live in together.

& Bob: Oh, hello. You must be Burt Peterson. I’m Bob Benson. I’m supposed to report to you.
Burt: Well, as a first order of business, I recommend that you stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass good-bye.

& Don: What did you say to me?
    Sylvia: Come see me?
    Don: No.
Sylvia: I need you and nothing else will do.

& Peggy: I just spoke with Dawn.
    Ted: Black or white?
Peggy: She wouldn’t tell me anything. She’s an excellent secretary.

& Don: You can talk about your kid, but I don’t want to hear about your husband.
Sylvia: I can talk about whatever I want.
Don: Can you help me look for my shoes while you do it?
Sylvia: You want me to look for your shoes?
Don: I want you to crawl on your hands and knees until you find them.
    Sylvia: They’re right over there.
    Don: Do it.

& Don: Sorry, I don’t know what you drink.
    Ted: Whatever there is.
Don: Of course, everything is packed away. I would have opened that first. Might have clients coming in.
Ted: I have something better for the clients. I have this bar cart wheeled in.
    Don: How is that better?
Ted: You should see the girl who wheels it in. It’s quite a presentation.
Don: If you don’t want to drink, you don’t have to drink.

& Ted: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I have to eat something.
    Don: Doesn’t ice count?

& Sylvia: Where are we going?
    Don: We’re not going anywhere.
    Sylvia: Are you kidding me?
Don: Why would you think you’re going anywhere? You are for me. You exist in this room for my pleasure.
Sylvia: Are we going to eat?
Don: Don’t ask any more questions. Take off your dress. Take off everything for me.

& Frank: I’m sure there’s a lot of work to do.
Ted: It’s got nothing to do with work. He seems more interested in me than he is in the work.
Frank: But you’re not very interesting.
    Ted: He doesn’t know that.
    Frank: What’s he like?
Ted: He’s mysterious. But I can’t tell if he’s putting it on. He doesn’t talk for long stretches, and then he’s incredibly eloquent.

& Frank: If I wait patiently by the river, the body of my enemy will float by.

& Frank: Give him the early rounds. He’ll tire himself out. Go home, shower, walk back in there like you own half the place.

& Peggy: I hoped he would rub off on you, not the other way around.
Don: He’s getting everything he wants and obviously you’re on his side.
Peggy: Why did you do it at all if there are sides? You could have just tried to hire me back. You never even asked me to lunch.
Don: Yes, Peggy, we risked our entire company just so I could have you in this office complaining again.
Peggy: Well, he can’t drink like you. And you must know that because nobody can.
Don: Peggy, he’s a grown man.
Peggy: So are you. Move forward.

& Sylvia: It’s time to really go home. This is over, and not just this.
Don: It’s easy to give up something when you’re satisfied.
Sylvia: It’s easy to give up something when you’re ashamed.
    Don: Please.

The Bear and the Maiden Fair

Game of Thrones 3×7

& Ygritte: When Mance gives the signal and we hit Castle Black, we won’t be banging on drums to let them know we’re coming.
Jon Snow: No. No, you’re just gonna light the biggest fire the North has ever seen to let them know you’re coming.
Ygritte: You know nothing, Jon Snow.

& Warg: She’s right, you don’t.
Jon Snow: I know you cut me loose on the Wall!
Warg: Cut her loose, too. Do you see her sulking about it? That’s because she understands the way things are.
Jon Snow: And are you gonna share it with me? The deep wisdom you found inside the head of a bird?
Warg: People work together when it suits them. They’re loyal when it suits them. They love each other when it suits them. And they kill each other when it suits them. She knows that, you don’t. Which is why you’ll never hold onto her.

& Catelyn: Lord Frey will take this delay as a slight.
Lord Edmure: He can take it as he likes. He’s getting the wedding he wanted.
Catelyn: He’s getting a wedding. It was a king he wanted.

& Sansa: He’s a dwarf! And Loras... Loras.
Margaery: Some women like tall men. Some like short men. Some like hairy men. Some like bald men. Gentle men, rough men, ugly men, pretty men... pretty girls. Most women don’t know what they like until they’ve tried it. And, sadly, so many of us get to try so little before we’re old and gray. Tyrion may surprise you. From what I’ve heard, he’s quite experienced.
Sansa: And that’s a good thing?
Margaery: It can be. We’re very complicated, you know. Pleasing us takes practice.

& Tyrion: She’s a child.
Bronn: She’s a foot taller than you.
    Tyrion: A tall child.

& Bronn: You want Shae, keep her. Wed one and bed the other. All you have to do is get a son in the Stark girl. He’ll be Lord of Winterfell one day. You can rule the North in his name. You’ll have two women and a whole kingdom of your own.
Tyrion: Two women to despise me and a whole kingdom to join them.
Bronn: You waste time trying to get people to love you, you’ll end up the most popular dead man in town.

& Tyrion: I don’t pay you to put evil notions in my head. The ones already there don’t need company.
Bronn: You pay me to kill people who bother you. Evil notions come free.

& Ser Jorah: We don’t need Yunkai, khaleesi. Taking this city will not bring you any closer to Westeros or the Iron Throne.
Daenerys: How many slaves are there in Yunkai?
Ser Jorah: 200,000, if not more.
Daenerys: Then we have 200,000 reasons to take the city.

& Missandei: Noble lord, you are in the presence of Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.

& Razdal mo Eraz: As I said, we are a generous people. You shall have as many ships as you require.
Daenerys: And what do you ask in return?
Razdal mo Eraz: All we ask is that you make use of these ships. Sail them back to Westeros where you belong and leave us to conduct our affairs in peace.
Daenerys: I have a gift for you as well... Your life.
    Razdal mo Eraz: My life?!
Daenerys: And the lives of your wise masters. But I also want something in return. You will release every slave in Yunkai. Every man, woman, and child shall be given as much food, clothing, and property as they can carry as payment for their years of servitude. Reject this gift... and I shall show you no mercy.

& Tyrion: This is duty, not desire.

& Tyrion: I don’t have a choice. My father...
Shae: Does not rule the world. We can still go across the Narrow Sea.
Tyrion: What would I do there? Juggle?
Ω As every joke this one has a bit (or a lot) of the true.

& Tyrion: I am a Lannister of Casterly Rock.
Shae: And I’m Shae the funny whore.
Tyrion: My feelings for you have not changed. I will marry Sansa Stark and do my duty by her.
Shae: While I empty her chamber pot and lick your cock when you’re bored?

& Melisandre: Haven’t you ever wondered where your strength came from? Your talent for fighting?
Gendry: I’m lowborn. As low as can be. My mother was a tavern wench.
Melisandre: Mine was a slave. So was I. Bought and sold, scourged and branded, until the Lord of Light reached down, took me in his hand and raised me up.

& Melisandre: Your blood is noble.
Gendry: Are you saying my father, he was some lord or...
    Melisandre: There. Your father’s house.
    Gendry: I’m just a bastard.
Melisandre: The bastard of Robert of the House Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men.

& Melisandre: There is power in a king’s blood.

& Lord Beric: The Red God is the one true god. You’ve seen his power. When he commands, we obey.
Arya: He’s not my one true god.
    Lord Beric: No? Who’s yours?
    Arya: Death.

& Ramsay Snow: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Terrible timing.

& Theon: No! Mercy, please! Please, mercy! Mercy!
Ramsay Snow: This is mercy. I’m not killing you. Just making a few alterations.

& Jon Snow: Six times in the last thousand years, a King-beyond-the-Wall has attacked the kingdoms. Six times they failed.
Ygritte: And how do you know that?
Jon Snow: Every boy in the North knows it. We grow up learning it. Where the battles were fought, the names of the heroes, who died where. Six times you’ve invaded and six times you’ve failed. The seventh will be the same.
    Ygritte: Mance is different.
Jon Snow: You don’t have the discipline. You don’t have the training. Your army is no army. You don’t know how to fight together.
    Ygritte: You don’t know that.
Jon Snow: I do. I know it. If you attack the Wall, you’ll die. All of you.
    Ygritte: All of us.

& Ygritte: You’re mine as I’m yours. And if we die, we die. But first we’ll live.

& Qyburn: How many men have you killed, my lord?
    Jaime: I don’t know.
    Qyburn: 50? 100? Countless.
Jaime: Countless has a nice ring to it.
Qyburn: And how many lives have you saved?
Jaime: Half a million... The population of King’s Landing.

& Jaime: Sorry about the sapphires.
