& Richard: So it says here that you’re proficient in C++, code assembly for multiple processor architectures, and... that you are a cyborg?
Patakian: That is correct— short for cybernetic organism. I came into this world of filth and pain with a congenital heart condition, requiring the installation of a pacemaker, upon which I am mortally dependent.
Jared: Wow, he’s technically a cyborg.
Richard: Yeah, yeah. Makes the resume accurate.

& Richard: Yes, we are the weird ones.

& Jared: My only concern here, and it’s a small one, he’s also named Jared. Will it be confusing with two Jareds? If we hire him, I can always go back to my real name— Donald.
Gilfoyle: No, that’s too big a hassle.
Dinesh: We’ll just go with «Other Jared.» OJ, for short.

& Jared: I know a name is just a sound somebody makes when they need you, but shouldn’t this much-newer Jared be «Other Jared»?
Gilfoyle: You should be flattered. OJ Simpson is one of the most recognizable people on the face of the planet.

& Erlich: I am going to have to err on the side of caution and say «Pass-adena,» Trina.

HR clerk: But starting today, you can do it in a much more significant way... Enjoy your new office.

& Dinesh: Just to be clear... Our top priority is to hire the most qualified person available, right?
    Jared: Of course.
Dinesh: But it would be better if that someone was a woman even though the «woman» part of that statement is irrelevant?..
Jared: Exactly. It’s like we’re the Beatles and now we just need Yoko.
Dinesh: That’s the worst example you could have used.

& Erlich: I like this painting. Is it sperm?
Russ: No, three commas. Know what has three commas in it, Richard?
Richard: Uh, a sentence with two appositive phrases in it?
    Russ: No, a billion dollars.

& Nastia: Ha. You are Jew.
    Richard: Episcopalian, actually.
    Nastia: Jew— good at business.
Russ: My baby’s got some ideas about Jews, some good, some... bad.

& Dinesh: Nice bag.
Carla: Thank you. Oh, look, «D&G.» It’s like Dinesh and Gilfoyle.

& Dinesh: That’s a $3500 bag.
Gilfoyle: How do you know? You have the same one?
Dinesh: No, I have the fucking Internet.

& Dinesh: I’m not jealous. I just want to make sure she’s making less than me.

Ask Me Anything

& Mark: Hey, babe.
Katie: Why do you call her that? She’s 46.

& Glenn Warburg: I can’t imagine life without great books. It’s as close to the angels as I get.
    Katie: What do you mean?
Glenn Warburg: Well, for me, reading is a transcendent experience.

& Caroline Kampenfelt: I could have warned you. Never get mixed up with someone if there’s a third party involved. You almost always lose.

& Paul: «Dear Miss Kampenfelt, since you expressed a desire today to learn more about adult life, here are 10 bitter truths for your reading pleasure:
  • Complete honesty is a complete lie.
  • Two, marriage is sacred only to those who have never been married.
  • Three, money is more integral to happiness than romantic love.
  • Four, every human being is a contradiction. Some hide it better than others.
  • Five, never underestimate the tendency of human beings to act contrary to their own best interests.
  • Six, were it not for the fear of getting caught, most of us would behave like savages.
  • Seven, all sex has consequences, most of them dire.
  • The older you get, the faster time flies until months pass like days.
  • There’s no such thing as living happily ever after.
  • Everything gets worse.»
Joel: He just wants to fuck you.

& Glenn Warburg: Now, tell me what’s wrong with you.
    Katie: I’m pregnant.

& Glenn Warburg: When a married man is having an affair with a beautiful, young girl, no matter how much he feels for that girl, he’s always relieved when it’s over because he knows he’s been playing a dangerous game, and he’s lucky to escape alive.
    Katie: He doesn’t love me?
Glenn Warburg: Not the way you think.

& Katie: I thought you’d be proud that I have a blog...
Glenn Warburg: I like that it’s creative and that it’s verbal. What I don’t like is that it’s public. Your generation is addicted to attention.
Katie: I know. It’s like we all want to be famous, even though we’re not good at anything.
    Glenn Warburg: Precisely.

& Katie: Do human beings ever dream a whole new life and make it come true? Or do they always go back I guess there’s only one way to find out. Say goodbye to all of you and just live. Really live.

A Most Violent Year

& Abel: Whatever it is, always take the fancy option.
Secretar: Can I get you a coffee or tea?
Abel: I would like a tea, please.
Secretar: We have some homemade lemonade or a soda.
Abel: I would love a lemonade. Thank you. Why? Because... We’re never gonna be the cheapest option, so we have to be the best. And they want... no. They need to feel that you want the best, too. That’s why our trucks are the newest or the cleanest, and our drivers are approachable.

& Abel: Now, after you’ve done the math, nd you’ve shown them how much they can save over the long haul through proper maintenance, you need to get them to sign. But the problem is, by hiring you, they need to fire someone else. And that’s never easy. So... After you show them the number, you look up at them, and stare. Stare longer than you should. ... So when you look them in the eye, you have to believe that we are better. But you will never do anything as hard as staring someone straight in the eye and telling the truth.

& Abel: This is not a joke. You will only keep this job if you close, and that’s not funny to you. I’m only interested in this company growing, and when it isn’t, it’s not very funny to me at all.

& Abel: When it feels scary to jump, Ian, that is exactly when you jump. Otherwise, you end up staying in the same place your whole life, and that, I can’t do.

& Julian: I feel... Vulnerable.
Abel: Good... Because you are vulnerable. We all are.

& Abel: To be successful... and great... You must keep going back. ... So this is what we do. We keep going back. And the times will get better. We’ll get safer. We will. So go. You’re strong just by going.

& Julian: You don’t get scared?
Abel: I’ve always been a lot more afraid for failure than of anything else.

& Abel: You’re looking backwards. Look forwards, that’s the only thing you can control.

& Abel: You should know that I have always taken the path that is most right. The result... Is never in question for me. Just what path do you take to get there. And there is always one that is most right.
