Angela: Another Smith Lyric I have is, "When you're laughing and dancing, and finally living, you hear my voice in your head and think of me kindly." And then also the one that means the most to me is, "Home, is it just a word? Or is it something that you carry within you?"
Linda: What did you name your van?
Fern: Vanguard.
Linda: Oh, that is very strong.
Fern: She is. Mmm.
Makenzie: Um... My mom says that you're homeless. Is that true?
Fern: No, I'm not homeless. I'm just houseless.
Bob Wells: I think of an analogy as a workhorse. The workhorse that is willing to work itself to death and then be put out to pasture. And that's what happens to so many of us. If society was throwing us away and sending us, the workhorse, out to the pasture, we workhorses had to gather together and take care of each other. And that's what this is all about.
Bob Wells: The way I see it is that Titanics are sinking and economic times are changing. And so my goal is to get the lifeboats out and get as many people into the lifeboats as I can.
Fern: It's like my dad used to say, "what's remembered lives."
Bob Wells: For a long time, every day was, uh... The question was... How can I be alive on this earth, when he's not? And I didn't have an answer. And those were some hard, hard days. But... I realized that I could honor him by, uh, helping people, and serving people. It gives me a reason to go through the day. Some days that's all I've got.
Bob Wells: One of the things I love most about this life is that there's no final goodbye. You know, I've met hundreds of people out here and I don't ever say a final goodbye. I always just say, "I'll see you down the road." And I do. And whether it's a month, or a year, or sometimes years, I see them again. And I can look down the road and I can be certain in my heart that I'll see my son again.

A Virus, Heartbreak and a World of Possibilities
Young Sheldon 4×15
Adult Sheldon: As long as humans have been on Earth, they've had to contend with viruses. And as long as I've been on Earth, I've come up with fun ways to avoid them... and I was social distancing before it was cool. But in the early '90s, a new type of virus became prevalent. One that no amount of hand-washing could stop. A computer virus...
Sheldon: Why do these games have to be so expensive?
Tam: At least you have MTV. All I have is TV.
Sheldon: Will you please stop focusing on what you don't have and try to focus on what I don't have?
Mary: Do you have any plans Saturday?
George: Why? There a Church thing?
Mary: No.
George: I'm free.
Mary: Good, because Brenda's having a rough time and I want to show her some fun.
George: Fun? You?
Mary: Yes, me!
George: Sorry, that came out wrong.
Mary: I know how to have a good time.
George: Of course you do... That came out wrong, too.
Meemaw: So how come it's taken us so long to hang out?
Brenda: Well... my husband never left me before.
Meemaw: We can joke about it?... Good. 'Cause that's gonna make this night way easier.
Meemaw: Is that three beers I see?
Mary: It's girls' night out and I said I was gonna show you a good time.
Meemaw: All right, then, party girl, give us a toast.
Mary: Oh, um, well, uh... Bless these beers and the bartender who poured them.
Meemaw: Seriously?
Mary: So, then, was there no big blowup when he left?
Brenda: Not really.
Mary: Well, what happened?
Brenda: Let's see... We used to be happy. Little by little, we weren't. Then there was bickering, then there was silence, and then... it was over. I mean... all couples bicker, right?
Adult Sheldon: Like a virus, heartbreak can also spread. Once it does, it's hard to contain. In some cases you can try to reboot and start over. But it makes you appreciate those early days, when your hard drive was clean... and the world was full of possibility.

Let Him Go (2020)
Margaret Blackledge: I don't need reminding. I know what I've lost.
George Blackledge: Sometimes that's all life is, Margaret. The list of what we've lost.
Blanche Weboy: My people originally came from Illinois. Filed a homestead claim north of Gladstone before there was a Gladstone. I'm one of eight. Lost an older sister to pneumonia. My brother Carl drowned in a neighbor's cistern. Another fell off a truck, lived in a wheelchair for the rest of his days. My aunt Ruth got caught in a whiteout, froze and died right where she stood, not 30 feet from that back door... Hard life. Not for everyone. My other brothers and sister lit out, soon as they could. Never looked back. I stayed...
Blanche Weboy: Oh, now I am feeling insulted by you. You really don't give a damn about sharing a meal.
Margaret Blackledge: I just meant...
Blanche Weboy: Or maybe you're a Jew. Maybe you can't eat pork chops..... Breathe easy. Anyone who knows me knows I can't be insulted. Eat my chops or don't.
George Blackledge: Don't start what you can't finish.

Ruling Days
Ozark 1×5
Jonah Byrde: My parents don't really like guns.
Buddy Dieker: Why the hell did they move here if they don't like guns? You know, a kid can't pass middle school health class here until he had his hunter's safety badge.
Jonah Byrde: It was for work.
Buddy Dieker: What kinda work?
Jonah Byrde: My dad brings businesses back to life.
Buddy Dieker: Well, wasn't the swamp thing on the dock in business with your dad? If so, looks like a mighty dangerous place to be.
Buddy Dieker: Well, I've been here nearly 30-odd years. And in that time, every son of a bitch I've seen move here was running from something unsavory.
Jonah Byrde: ... What were you running from? You moved here, right? What did you do?
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: Things are a little, uh, complicated at the house right now.
Rachel: Well... if anyone knows complicated, it's me.
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: Hmm. Well, my wife's talking to her dead lover's son...
Sheriff John Nix: I'm gonna give you the simplest, most neighborly advice I can give. Whatever it is you're up to... stop.
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: It'd have to be massive.
Wendy Byrde: Yeah! Well, obviously.
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: Think lots of people. Lots of cash. And no IRS.
Wendy Byrde: Okay. So... so... so what is that?
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: I don't know. You tell me.
Wendy Byrde: I'm... Well, there's gotta be some business the IRS is afraid to touch...
Grace Young: What made you stop attending?
Wendy Byrde: I... I don't know. Uh, I mean, I don't believe that... people actually need a reason to do the things they do. I mean, sometimes people just act. And then they come up with an explanation later when they're looking back.
Charlotte Byrde: Science fiction's not really my thing.
Wyatt Langmore: Says everyone who's never read real sci-fi. It's about humans, right? So in this, it's like we're the Martians. We're the aliens. We go to Mars... take the place over, wipe out all the Martians and, like, try to make it our own. But then we realize... it can never really be ours, like... even the people that were born there, never known any other place, they'll still always be aliens. And the best part is, like, all these people move to Mars, try to escape their problems on Earth, and they get there and... it's like life on Mars isn't any different. Like, they just bring all their old problems with them.

Things Left to Do
Fear the Walking Dead 6×9
Morgan: Well, you should be scared.
Virginia: Why's that?
Morgan: 'Cause it's over for you. Everything you are, everything you were, everything you had is gonna get stripped away. And that's scary. I know, because it was over for me once.
Victor: You entrusted me to build an army. You should've been careful about who I'd use it against.
Virginia: She... She's not my sister. She's my daughter.
Morgan: No, you and me are not the same.
Virginia: Morgan... We're all the same.
Dakota: What does it even matter?
Virginia: What does what matter?
Dakota: I killed people. You killed people. Why did you even bring me into this world?!
Morgan: You know, John... he said ... said that "the ground we stand on is soaked in blood," and he was right. There has been so much killing to get us here. To get us to win. And we have won, right? But John just wanted the killing to stop. And I want it to stop. Don't you? Want it to just stop?.. I figure we should start that by having her live. By making her live with what she's done.
Victor: Come with me. Whatever's coming, we can face it together.
Alicia: I wanted us to do this together. You made it clear you didn't. Why should I believe you now?
Victor: You don't have to. I'll show you. I'll give you a reason to come and join me.
June: You're the reason. You always were.

Chandler: Joey, it's been three days.
Joey: Oh.
Chandler: Okay, you're just a little homesick. Would you just try to relax and just enjoy yourself?
Joey: You're different here too. You're mean in England!
Monica: I was laughing.
Chandler: Out loud?
Monica: I didn't want everyone to think I was stupid.
Monica: My mother's right. I'll never get married.
Chandler: Ha! You know what, that is... Who wouldn't want you?
Monica: Please! I'm a single mom with a 30-year-old son.
Chandler: I've never done that with you before. Heh.
Monica: Nope. Ha, ha.
The Gentleman on the Plane: If you're planning on doing that the entire flight... please tell me now so that I can take a sedative. Or maybe slip you one.
Ross: Why are you here?
Rachel: I just came to... I just needed to tell you... congratulations.
The Registrar: Now, Ross. Repeat after me. I, Ross.
Ross: I, Ross.

Sylvain: She's okay now. Her psychological tests are fine. In a way, her panic attack benefitted us. It wasn't work-related, so it reinforced her "virgin" status.
Marie-Jeanne: What a positive view of things.
Sylvain: You want the negative view?
Marie-Jeanne: Not really. ...... What's the negative view?
Sylvain: One day, we won't be so lucky. She'll crack and blow the whole thing. In programming, when a line of code malfunctions, the kind that could block the system, it can take time to crash. But it always does.
Sylvain: You know what's on it?... A Mossad cyberattack. Probably a serious virus. A time bomb targeting the IT system common to all nuclear plants in seismic zones... I'll be able to study the attack... This is huge.
CIA Agent: If we help you get Debailly out, we want to question him. First, and alone.
Mag: I'm not comfortable leaving my agent with your people.
CIA Agent: "Your" agent is partially ours. Besides... when you say "your people", it could also be one of "our" people.
Dr Balmès: You know what really scared him?
Marie-Jeanne: Betrayal?
Dr Balmès: He was afraid of not being good enough. Being too average, too mediocre. And to end his career in shame.
Marie-Jeanne: He used to say, "It'll all work out when we're dead". It's all worked out.

Monica: You guys, hurry up. The flight leaves in four hours. There could be traffic. The plane could leave early. When we get to London, there could be a line at customs. Come on.
Chandler: Six-hour trip to London. That's a lot of Monica...
Monica: Passport, check. Camera, check. Traveler's checks, check.

Monica: Myself. For remembering to pack the thing... You know, you do a good thing, you get a check... My mom does it. I never realized it was weird.
Phoebe: Hey, my mom used to put her head in the oven, so... Actually, she only did it the one time. But it was pretty weird.
Ross: Hey. Are you ready yet?
Monica: Yep. You got the tickets?
Ross: Oh, got them right here. Check.
Joey: It's all London, baby!
Phoebe: So, what do you want for lunch?
Rachel: Oh, I don't know. I guess we have to eat.

Phoebe: We thought you knew.
Rachel: We?
Phoebe: Yeah, we all know. We talk about it all the time.
Rachel: You all know? Does Ross know?
Phoebe: Oh, no. Ross doesn't know anything.
Rachel: Oh. I cannot believe you didn't tell me.
Phoebe: Because we thought you knew. It's so obvious. God, it would be like, you know, telling Monica: "Hey," you know, "you like things clean."
Emily: Don't you point your pants at me!
Monica: Ross, how long have you been planning this wedding?
Ross: I don't know. A month?
Monica: Emily has probably been planning it since she was 5. Ever since the first time she took a pillowcase and hung it off her head. That's what we did. We dreamed about the perfect wedding. In the perfect place. With the perfect four-tiered wedding cake. With the little people on top. But the most important part... is that we had the perfect guy... who understood just how important all that other stuff was.

Mitch's Son and the Unconditional Approval of a Government Agency
Young Sheldon 4×14
Adult Sheldon: I'm very much a creature of habit. Perhaps it's a trait I got from my father. Every night he would go through the mail, and every night, like clockwork, he would get very cranky.
George: Damn bills.
Mary: George!
Adult Sheldon: You'd think he'd get used to it, but night after night it upset him all over again.
George: Jury duty? Son of a...
Sheldon: You realize they're wrong. My return was flawless.
George: I-It's four dollars. Forget it.
Sheldon: But they're saying I made a mistake!
Mary: You also got us a nice refund. You did a great job.
Adult Sheldon: I appreciated my mother's love, but what a boy really craves is the unconditional approval of a government agency.
George: Just drop it, we don't want to get on their radar.
Sheldon: But if you send that check, it's like admitting I made a mistake when I didn't.
George: Sheldon, sometimes being right isn't the most important thing.
Sheldon: I'm glad you feel that way, because, boy, are you wrong.
Connie: House salad? You watching your figure?
Dale: I have a physical tomorrow.
Connie: Oh, so your plan is to start eating healthy now?
Dale: Can't hurt.
Connie: It ain't gonna undo 70 years of red meat and beer.
Dale: I'm not trying to undo it, I'm just trying to hide it under some lettuce.
Missy: Son of a Mitch!
Mary: Melissa Cooper!
Missy: What? I said "Mitch." There's nothing wrong with that.
Mary: But you meant another word.
Missy: I'm sorry, what other word?
Mary: Just watch it!
George: Hello. Playing with your trains?
Sheldon: I'm punishing myself by looking at them, but not allowing myself to run them.
Mary: Why are you readin' the Bible?
Missy: I felt bad about last night, so I thought it might be good for me.
Mary: Where are you going with this?
Missy: Nowhere, I just want to make you happy.
Mary: Uh-huh.
Missy: "And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses."
Mary: Okay. Stop.
Missy: What? I'm just reading from Genesis.
Mary: Well, cut it out.
Missy: Fine. Let's try Exodus... "And on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest."
Mary: That is it, you are grounded.
Missy: For reading the Bible?
Mary: The way you are doing it, yes. Go to your room.
Missy: Okay. I don't have a donkey. But if I did, I'd take my ass out of here.
Sheldon: I made a mistake that's gonna cost us a lot of money that we don't have. I feel so stupid.
George: Hey. It's okay to feel stupid.
Sheldon: No, it's not.
George: It just means you're growing. If you don't look back and think you were dumb, then you, then you haven't learned anything.
Sheldon: So what do we do?
George: We get back in there.
Sheldon: What if we lose?
George: Doesn't matter... win or lose, we don't give up, all right? Now let's get in there and show 'em what we're made of... what do you say?
Sheldon: I've heard you give that exact same pep talk at football games.
George: Well, I didn't have a special one prepared.

Tonight We Improvise
Ozark 1×4
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: Okay. Money Laundering 101.
Say you come across a suitcase with five million bucks in it. What would you buy? A yacht? A mansion? A sports car? Sorry. The IRS won't let you buy anything of value with it. So you better get that money into the banking system. But here's the problem. That dirty money is too clean. Looks like it just came out of a bank vault. You gotta age it up. Crumple it. Drag it through the dirt. Run it over with your car. Anything to make it look like it's been around the block.
Next, you need a cash business. Something pleasant and joyful... with books that are easily manipulated. No credit card receipts, etcetera. You mix the five million with the cash from the joyful business. That mixture goes from an American bank... to a bank from any country that doesn't have to listen to the IRS. It then goes into a standard checking account... and voilà.
All you need is access to one of over three million terminals, because your work is done. Your money's clean. It's as legitimate as anybody else's.
Jonah Byrde: Does it hurt?
Buddy Dieker: What?
Jonah Byrde: Dying.
Buddy Dieker: Life hurts.
Buddy Dieker: "We're born astride the grave." You know what that means?
Jonah Byrde: No.
Buddy Dieker: Sit down. It means... that we're... all dying the minute we're born. Goes fast. Don't waste it. Don't waste it.
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: I mean, did you even have a fucking plan? A stethoscope or a bobby pin at least? Jesus Christ.
Charlotte Byrde: You do know that sound carries across water, don't you?
Charlotte Byrde: You used to say, "Do whatever you're gonna do, as long as you're honest about it," right? But are either of you honest? Ever? When outright lies aren't spilling out of your mouths, you're eating fucking pancakes, pretending everything's fine...
Wendy Byrde: God Almighty, it is hot. It's not even July yet. And it's... it's really quiet. Which... you know, can either be very calming or it can drive you batshit crazy.
Bobby Dean: I ain't fucking talking to you.
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: It's okay. You can just listen. 'Cause I'm just... I'm thinking out loud about... how shell companies work, you know. The... the miracle, really, that makes it possible to move money around without countries being able to track it. Uh, I'm just... I'm fascinated by it. What has me thoroughly taken is how a man can own and operate a company... without ever putting his name on it, so that every move, every transaction, is perfectly undetectable. Think about that. How's that possible? How, if you never put your name on a company, do you ever even own the company? I don't get it. I mean, it's something to ponder, isn't it? I mean, that guy would have to be in possession, physical possession, of that company's bearer shares. Yeah? The piece of paper? The deed to his empire? It would all come down to that, wouldn't it? And if he was in possession of that piece of paper... where do you think he'd keep it? You think he'd put it in a safe? In a manila envelope... in the false bottom of that safe?
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: Now, I don't go to church and I don't consider myself a Christian. I don't consider myself anything, but I do like to think that I follow a certain code...
Wendy Byrde: ... And quite frankly, I don't give a shit if you like it or not. 'Cause I feel pretty good about it. It's a good idea, and I did it for our family. What'd you do today... for our family?
Martin 'Marty' Byrde: .... Bought a strip club.
Jacob Snell: Redneck and a hillbilly are strolling along a country lane, talking about the Garden of Eden. The redneck, drinking whiskey as he walks... believes that Adam and Eve had every right to take that apple... for, if God were kind... why would he forbid them from partaking in that delicious fruit? The hillbilly listens and nods. Then the redneck finishes the bottle and throws it onto the path. When the hillbilly frowns... the redneck says, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." When the hillbilly frowns again, redneck says, "You judge doubly, you sin twice." Whereupon God smites the redneck dead. Hillbilly... forever silent and diligent... digs the redneck's grave... fashions a humble tombstone from the empty bottle, and walks on. That eve... he witnesses the most beautiful sunset ever 'fore made...

Marina: We'd have Iran by the balls.

Promising Young Woman (2020)
Cassandra: Look, you're making the assumption that I want any of it. If I wanted a boyfriend and a yoga class and a house and kids and a job my mom could brag about, I'd have done it. It would take me ten minutes. I don't want it. I don't want it.
Ryan: One coffee, hold the spit.
Cassandra: Look how easy it was. I guess you just had to think about it in the right way... I guess it feels different when it's someone you love.
Cassandra: You might be surprised to hear that "gentlemen" are sometimes the worst.
Cassandra: Did you ever feel guilty, or did you just feel relieved that she'd gone? You know, I was affected by it too, okay?
Al Monroe: I mean, it's every guy's worst nightmare, getting accused like that.
Cassandra: Can you guess what every woman's worst nightmare is?
Cassandra: Don't worry. I've sterilized everything.

The One with the Worst Best Man Ever
Friends 4×22
Ross: Hey, guys.
Chandler: Hey.
Ross: All right. Here's the ring.
Chandler: Yes, yes. A thousand times, yes!
Phoebe: Stop it!
Monica: What?
Phoebe: One of the babies is kicking.
Monica: I thought that was a good thing.
Phoebe: It's not kicking me. It's kicking one of the other babies.
The Stripper: So, I guess, um, good night.
Joey: Oh, unless you, uh... Unless you want to hang around.
The Stripper: Yeah?
Joey: Yeah. I'll let you play with my duck...
Ross: The stripper stole my wedding ring? How?! How could this happen?
Chandler: Well, I think it all started when you said, "Hey, Joey, why don't you be my best man."

Pasqualino Settebellezze
Narrator: The ones who don't enjoy themselves, even when they laugh.
Oh, yeah.
The ones who worship the corporate image, not knowing that they work for someone else.
Oh, yeah.
The ones who should have been shot in the cradle.
Pow! Oh, yeah.
The ones who say, “Follow me to success, but kill me if I fail,” so to speak.
Oh, yeah.
The ones who say, “We, Italians, are the greatest he-men on earth.”
Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.
The ones who make love standing in their boots and imagine they're in a luxurious bed. The ones who believe Christ is Santa Claus as a young man.
Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah.
The ones who say, “Everything is wrong here.” The ones who say, “Now let's all have a good laugh.”
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Pasqualino Frafuso: What the hell?
Pasqualino Frafuso: So I said to my men, where are we going? What are we doing, running around like this? Who wants to go around killing? Let's go. Go back home. You can't work for people who send you with cardboard shoes. Here, where when you blow your nose you get a crystal chandelier and when you shit you get icicles.
Pasqualino Frafuso: How long is this river?
Francesco: It must be the Rhine.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Where is that?
Francesco: It's still in Germany.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Then it's still a pain in the ass.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Who were they?
Francesco: Maybe they are the Jews.
Pasqualino Frafuso: That's impossible.
Francesco: It's possible. And we're as guilty as they are. We're accomplices to those rotten shits.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Why do you think that we're accomplices?
Francesco: Because we didn't make a sound, didn't come out and spit in their faces. We could have, but we ran instead.
Pasqualino Frafuso: That's crazy. How could we have? They'd have come after us and we'd be shot. Useless suicide.
Francesco: No, it wouldn't have been useless because in the face of certain things you've got to say no, and instead I said yes to Mussolini, to duty and to all that crap.
Francesco: In this war I've killed bastards I didn't even know.
Pasqualino Frafuso: I killed before the war, but I had my reasons.
Francesco: I kill like an idiot, for no reason.
Pasqualino Frafuso: I did it for a woman. I killed for a woman.
Signora Frafuso: A woman is a woman, Pasqualino. And a woman, even one who is an evil person, has a little good for someone who can reach her heart. There's a bit of sugar always there.
Pasqualino Frafuso: I had a vision. Something my mama said. That bit of sugar, I know it's there. No matter how rotten she is, or how evil, she must need love. I'm right, Franche. You're educated, but in the matter of women I'm way ahead of you.
Francesco: I'm sure.
Pasqualino Frafuso: You know what I used to be called? Pasqualino Seven Beauties.
Francesco: They did?
Pasqualino Frafuso: Yes, because I'm ugly.
Francesco: You look terrible, all right.
Pasqualino Frafuso: But that was the point. In spite of my looks, I appealed to women. They loved me. People were amazed. They'd say, “It's unbelievable. He's repulsive.” Others replied, “He must have the Seven Beauties.” That's how it came to be my name, see?
Francesco: No, but I believe you.
Pedro: I'm a death expert. I know an anarchist whose bombs didn't work. Mussolini, Hitler, Salazar. I've got failure after failure. These people have made a business out of death.
Pasqualino Frafuso: What's the world coming to? How the hell did the world ever get like this? And we let ourselves get killed this way. Nobody says anything. The Jews, who were supposed to be so smart. The brave Russians, who began the revolution. They're not rebelling. My rotten luck, ending up in this shit pile.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Francesco, I don't want to die. I can't accept that. I'm still young. I had a miserable life. I would like to have changed it, but I never managed to. I can't die like this. I just can't die like this. I'll try and get out of here. I'll do it. I'll find a way out of here, starting at this moment.
Pasqualino Frafuso: I want to live, have children, see my children's children, and more, the children of my children's children. All the children I can possibly have.
Pedro: What bullshit, amigo.
Pasqualino Frafuso: You pig! How dare you tell me what to do? How dare you insult me like that? ....
Pedro: Because the more children you have, the faster the end will come.
Francesco: In what sense? Exactly what do you mean?
Pedro: In the year 1400 there were 500 million people on earth. By the year 1850 the amount had doubled to one billion. Now we're all... extremely indignant because of the death of 20 million men. But in 200 or 300 years, there'll be a lot more of us, 30 billion more. So anywhere you go on earth will be worse than here. That's when men are going to butcher one another and murder an entire family for a piece of bread or an apple... and the world will end.
Don Raphael: Imagination. A creative effort's needed.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Easy, no? Like smoking a cigarette.
Don Raphael: Smoking cigarettes, anybody can do that. The man who wants to be something more... needs the guts to perform. The nerve to do things that normally no one else could possibly imagine.
Don Raphael: Don't pay attention to anyone who talks about the American system. Traditional cement shoes were invented here in Sicily. Chicago and New York just make cheap imitations. It's plagiarism. The king-size coffin is our invention. When you see a funeral in Naples, nobody knows how many bodies are in the coffin. When things get busy, two or three can be stuffed in. Depends on the demand. We invented everything here in Naples. For example, you know the ancient graveyard? Well, when they first opened it they found 500 skeletons. Now there are 5,000. The question is, who put the other 4,500 in there? So, as I said, it depends on the demand.
Lawyer: If you screw yourself, I won't take the case. How can I defend you if you tell the truth? “The monster of Naples is captured and confesses.” Whoever heard of such a thing? Confesses?
Pasqualino Frafuso: A rotten comedy, a lousy farce... called living.
Socialist: Political?
Pasqualino Frafuso: Hatchet killer... Pasqualino Porfusso, the Monster of Naples. The act of an unbalanced mind. Twelve years.
Socialist: You're lucky. They gave me 28 years and four months.
Pasqualino Frafuso: Twenty-eight? How did it come to that?
Socialist: I simply thought. It's the most atrocious crime a citizen could commit.
Pasqualino Frafuso: To tell the truth, politics are boring. I've other interests. Papa was a bricklayer. He talked a little Socialism. But I don't think about it anymore... because I think Il Duce is pretty great. To be truthful, he's given us roads. He's given so much, an entire empire. All the other countries are jealous of our leader. Listening to the man speak to us... that voice and those eyes... and his court found me completely insane. But our people are respected. They used to spit at us Italians. On the face? Remember? Besides, there were many strikes, riots, demonstrations. We used to be in terrible condition. Thanks to him, there's been no disorder.
Socialist: He is a marvel. You're right. There has been law and order, and he's done it by outlawing unions and strikes. The result is that salaries in 1919 were up and today people are making less than half, while the cost of living has increased 30 percent. You didn't know that, huh?
Socialist: You mentioned the strikes and the riots. At least then we knew if there was a disease, we could hope to get well. Now we imagine we're strong and we hide the disease. That man will bring our country to war. That's the final catastrophe.
The Prison Camp Commandant: You're in barracks number 23, right? Starting right now, you're in charge of barrack 23. That's an order. As head of barrack 23, you are to designate any six that you like to be eliminated at once. If not, I eliminate all men in that barrack. You are to choose any six. And the others may get something to eat, even survive. You pick six or you'll all be cremated. Understand? Finished. The choice is yours.
Pasqualino Frafuso: We're getting married. There isn't much time to lose. I want children. Many children. Twenty, 30. It's a matter of self-defense. They must be strong. Look at the crowds out there. Soon they'll be murdering each other, families slaughtered for an apple. So we must see to it our family is large. That'll be our defense. Understand?... We'll get married. The sooner the better.
Signora Frafuso: Please, Pasqualino, don't worry. Thank the Madonna for returning you to us. One mustn't look back on what's passed. It's so senseless. What's done is done. Look. Look at yourself, my son. You're beautiful. The war is ended. It's useless to think about these miseries. Pasqualino, you're alive. Alive!
Pasqualino Frafuso: ........ Yes, I'm alive.

Le Bureau des Légendes #3.6
Marjorie: Who chose the alias?
Sylvain: I did.
Marjorie: Snoopy? You think our Mossad colleagues are idiots?
Sylvain: Absolutely not.
Esrin: You didn't bring me anything? You came from Paris empty-handed? No little gifts? A ball that makes snow when you shake it? Nothing at all?
Sylvain: If I were Mossad, and forget that my name ends in "stein", I'd use a Trojan horse to put a virus into the system.
Philippe Sieca: Were you scared?
Marina: No, surprised.
Philippe Sieca: First piece of advice: answer only "yes" or "no". Only offer what's necessary. I'll ask again. Were you scared?
Marina: No.
Philippe Sieca: What? How can you know if I was scared?
Philippe Sieca: Second piece of advice: lie only when you have to. You had to be scared. It's normal to be scared and to panic. It's a protection mechanism. Your fear protects you. The contrary would be unusual.
Marina: I was scared the first time. What if it reoccurs? I could panic and mess up.
Philippe Sieca: That's a classic. Two solutions: either you go into therapy for a few years, and we drop everything for now, or we choose a more technological approach.
Marina: Let's go for technology.
Philippe Sieca: That machine doesn't measure truth or lies. It's not God. It measures the external manifestations of your fear. In scientific terms, your reactions to stress.
Marina: How's that supposed to reassure me?
Philippe Sieca: You can't control your fear, but you can control how it's displayed. You can be scared. Just don't show it. That's quite different. There are special techniques.
Philippe Sieca: The machine records your physical reactions, such as heart palpitations and perspiration. You'll be asked two kinds of questions. Relevant ones, such as: "Do you work in a secret service?" And control questions, such as: "Have you ever cheated?" The answer to the control questions is usually "yes", but people are uneasy about answering honestly. Your reaction to relevant questions will be compared with your reaction to the control questions.
Marina: I understand.
Philippe Sieca: When they ask a control question, like "have you ever cheated?", your physiological reaction will deviate from the norm because the obvious reply, "yes", is somewhat embarrassing. For the relevant questions, such as "are you a spy?", your reaction will also deviate. You'll reply "no", which is a lie. The goal is for your reaction to deviate more with control questions than relevant ones. That way, they'll ignore it.
Marina: So, how do you do that?
Philippe Sieca: If you exaggerate your reactions to the control questions, your "relevant" reactions will appear minimal. It's all relative.
Marina: So if I artificially modify my breathing during control questions, I'll get away with the relevant ones.
Philippe Sieca: Exactly. I'll train you to do it. It all comes from here... Kind of like yoga. Hold your breath right after you exhale. Hold it for 5 to 15 seconds. Resume your normal breathing rate just before the next question.

Brotherly Love
This Is Us 5×13
Randall: It's just so... formal. I mean, he's flying all the way out here to talk about... you know...
Beth: Your racially-charged childhood?
Randall: That's not what I was...
Beth: Randall.
Randall: I asked for this, here it is, and now I wish I could put it off for another 40 years.
Beth: Randall, the man is coming across country to have a long-awaited talk. This needs to happen.
Randall: I know. And it will.
Beth: Look, you said his acting was trash and his father died ashamed of him. He said he hated that they ever adopted you. Can't get any worse.
Randall: It can get worse...
Kevin: Here... No time to get fancy, I just borrowed it from a buddy of mine in acting class.
Randall: But it looks nothing like me. He's... he's pushing 40.
Kevin: Who cares? He's a Black guy, you're a Black guy. It'll be fine.
Randall: You had racial blind spots, Kev. Deep ones that affected me. Not my prom date's dad, you... Yeah.
Kevin: You're-you're grouping me with that guy?!
Randall: I'm not. Because the pain that that man inflicted was intentional. You were just thoughtless and willfully in the dark, which actually somehow hurt more.
Kevin: So I'm a racist?
Randall: No, you said that, Kev, not me.
Kevin: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, Randall. I'm sorry there were things I didn't see when we were growing up. And I'm sorry there are things I, I still don't see... You are my brother. And I love you. You're the only brother I'll ever have. You're my best man.
Randall: Dad didn't die ashamed of you. And the only reason I said it in our fight was because... it was a cheap shot. I'm sorry. He was proud of you. I am proud of you. And I'm sorry that I ever let you think otherwise. Come here. I love you.
Kevin: Love you, too.
Kevin: Rest of the world can't say the ugly thing. But we have to. You're not just my smart, successful brother, Randall. You're my Black, smart, successful brother. And I think maybe I did resent that. And maybe I thought you getting special treatment was mixed up with... with you being Black. And I wanted to take you down a notch, and I... I overlooked things that I shouldn't have. And I took shots at you that I shouldn't have taken. And I was more jealous of you than I should've been.

The Geezer Bus and a New Model for Education
Young Sheldon 4×13
Dr. Sturgis: So, there's no one who can lend you a car?
Connie: There is the church shuttle, but that just feels like it's the end of the line.
Dr. Sturgis: Oh, I wouldn't say that. There's all sorts of depressing steps before the end. You've got full-time nursing care.
Connie: Bye, John.
Dr. Sturgis: Assisted living.
Connie: Bye, John.
Dr. Sturgis: Hospice.
Connie: Bye, John.
Dr. Sturgis: Life support.
Connie: Bye, John!
Dr. Sturgis: Pulling the plug.
Connie: Bye, John.
Dr. Sturgis: Then... you make a miraculous recovery!
Connie: Great!
Dr. Sturgis: But... the hospital bills leave you destitute!
Connie: Bye.
Dr. Sturgis: Bye.
Sheldon: So, how shall we handle today's class?
Dr. Linkletter: Well, I'm sure you can get notes from another student.
Sheldon: Or you could give the lecture to me right now.
Dr. Linkletter: That's preposterous.
Sheldon: Why? We could be creating a new model of education where students could learn remotely. It could be the wave of the future...
Dr. Linkletter: If you turn to page 78 in the textbook, I'll begin today's lecture.
Sheldon: We should come up with some kind of video system so you can see when I raise my hand.
Dr. Linkletter: Why don't you just tell me?
Sheldon: Let's try it. Hand-raise.
Dr. Linkletter: Yes, Sheldon.
Sheldon: That worked great!
