Law of Nines

&  Power. In the end it’s nothing more complicated than that.

&  “There are always people like Radell Cain who are ready to take advantage of public resentment. He played on people’s emotions by blaming everything on those who were still productive and prosperous, saying that they were uncaring and insensitive. People swooned at Cain’s simplistic, populist notions. He made what was really nothing more than simple greed sound somehow morally righteous. He made taking what others had worked to earn sound like justice. People ate it up.
“In the middle of unrest and difficult times, Cain won people over with promises of change–a new vision, a new direction. He made change sound like a miracle solution to all our problems. People mindlessly embraced the notion of change.”
“I guess people love hearing that nothing is their fault,” Alex said, “that other people are to blame for their troubles.”
Jax nodded. “For a lot of people it beats hard work and personal responsibility.”

&  “Well, imagine life here without technology. Imagine life without the technology that heats your buildings, helps grow food in abundance, makes your lights glow. What would your lives be like without phones, trucks, medicines and cures, without the means to supply the people in your cities with goods and services?
“Imagine all the people in cities deprived of every kind of technology, technology that they use every day to survive. Imagine everyone suddenly having to find a way to grow their own food, to preserve it, to store it safely.”
“People are pretty ingenious,” Alex said with a shrug. “I’m sure it would be hard but I think they would cope.”
“Cope? Think of the reality of your world, tomorrow, suddenly stripped of your technology–no phones, no computer devices, no way to find out anything. Think it through, Alex.
“Without your technology the fabric of civilization itself would come apart within days–if not hours. Everyone would be on their own. One city wouldn’t know what the next was doing, or if they were even alive. There’d be no planes or cars or anything else. You couldn’t travel to other places unless you walked. Do you have any idea how long it takes to walk just a few dozen miles? A distance that in your cars takes a brief time would be days of hard travel on foot.
“There would be no way for people to know what had happened to their far flung loved ones. No one would know what had happened to their government. No word would come about anything. Everyone–everyone–would be in the dark, literally and figuratively. You would all be sitting there with no phones, no electrical devices, no heat, no way to get anything or summon help. Your world would fall silent.
“It wouldn’t be long until supplies of food started to rot and run out. How long would it be until roving gangs started to loot what they wanted? Who would stop them? How would the police know when and where crimes were being committed? How would they hear anyone cry for help? How would they get there? Law and order would quickly become a thing of the past.
“When it turns cold, then what? Millions of people will rush to cut wood to try to keep warm, that’s what. Makeshift fires used to keep warm will inevitably get out of hand. Your technology to fight the fires would be gone. Once fires catch hold, they will rampage unchecked, growing to firestorms that will gut cities and leave tens of thousands homeless.
“Disease will spread like a plague with no means to stop it. Life will be not merely cheap but short.
“When all the food is gone you will begin dying by the millions. Those still alive will not have the strength or the will to bury all the dead. In the end, in the grip of starvation, the living will eat the dead.
“The only law will be survival.
“Those who once held idyllic notions of how simple and clean life would be without the demon of technology ... will die filthy, terrified, and confused. Their idealistic notions will crumble in the cold face of reality. They will be unprepared for the consequences of their pompous beliefs.
“What before had been simple will become tremendously difficult or impossible. The ignorant, the frightened, the weak, the criminal, will defecate in runoff areas, in streams, and in rivers, wanting their waste to be washed away. They won’t care about anyone downstream. Finding water will be a monumental chore. Finding clean, disease free water will be impossible.
“Sewage and garbage will lie in the open. Vermin will multiply into a nightmare of filth. The stench of human habitation will be unbearable, but you will live in it, sleep in it, have sex in it, bear children you cannot care for in it. Without technology, the product of your minds, mankind will be marked by the stench of sickness and death.
“Schools, of course, will be a thing of the past. Learning will be stopped in its tracks; knowledge will wither daily. Survival itself will be an all consuming struggle. As people die in droves the aptitude for technology, the skills, the expertise that was so common and taken for granted, will be lost. Without it your world will plunge headlong into the depths of a bottomless dark age of filth and misery. Millions upon millions of lives will be cut short as they are born into profound ignorance, abject poverty, backward superstition, and the rule of the most brutal.
“That is the reality of a world without technology–brief lives of unimaginable misery, filth, and savagery.”

&  “What did you tell her?”
“I told her that I killed people for a living.”
Alex lost a step. “You told her what?”
“That I kill people. I’m not familiar enough with your world to come up with a credible lie, so I told her the truth.” Jax flicked her hand, dismissing the alarm on his face. “People usually don’t believe the truth. They’d rather hear a good lie.”

&  As Ben had always said, it was his mind that was the real weapon.

&  You couldn’t always choose the fight. The best thing to do was to avoid a fight, if you could. But the way that it all too often happened was that you would find yourself in a fight you didn’t want, outnumbered, and outmatched in weapons. That was because people would generally only attack if they felt confident enough in their superiority to feel sure of the outcome.

&  “I win any way I can, even if I have to break the rules.”

&  Dictators always seek to take weapons away from people so that there can be no effective opposition to their rule.

&  Ben always told him that you could never have enough guns or ammo.

&  You can’t bargain with evil. You can’t appease it. You can’t compromise with it.

Margin Call

& Will Emerson (by Paul Bettany): Have you guys ever been through this before?
Peter Sullivan (by Zachary Quinto): No.
Will: It’s best to ignore it. Keep your head down. Go back to work. Don’t watch!

& Sam Rogers (by Kevin Spacey): It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.

& Sam: You are all still here for a reason. Eighty percent of this floor was just sent home... forever. they were good people and they were good at their jobs... but you all were better. Now they are gone. They are not to be thought of again. This is your opportunity. On every floor of this building and in every office from Hong Kong to London the same thing is happening. By the time we are done... 3 of every seven guys, who were standing between you and your boss’s job... are gone. That is your opportunity. I’ve been at this place for thirty-four years. And I can tell you that this will not be the last time you’re gonna go through this. But you all are survivors... And that is how this firm over 107 years has continued to grow stronger. So, keep your heads high... and get back to work.

& Jared Cohen: What is your background?
    Peter: My background?
    Jared: Your CV.
Peter: I’ve been with the firm for 2 and half years working with Eric that whole time... But I hold a doctorate in engineering, speciality in propulsion, from MIT, with a Bachelors from Penn.
Jared: What’s a specialty in propulsion, exactly?
Peter: My thesis was a study in the way that friction ratios effect steering outcomes in aeronautical use under reduced gravity loads.
Jared: So, you are a rocket scientist?
    Peter: I was.
Jared: Interesting... How did you end up here?
Peter: Well it’s all just numbers really, you’re just changing what you’re adding up. And if I may speak freely... the money here is, considerably more attractive.

& Will: Did you know the fear most people feel when they stand on the edge like this isn’t the fear of falling? It’s the fear that they might jump.

& Seth Bregman: Did you really make two and half million bucks last year?
    Will: Yeah... I did.
Peter: What do you do with all that money?
Will: I don’t know really. It goes pretty quick... Well, the tax man takes half of it up front. So now you got what... million and a quarter. Mortgage grabs another 300K, I gave 150 to my parents to live off, so now you got what?
    Peter: Eight hundred.
Will: I bought two cars last year for 150 total. Probably another 100 eating... 25 on clothes, put 400 away for a rainy day...
    Seth: Smart.
    Will: And what’s that?
    Peter: 125 left.
Will: I spent 76,520 dollars on booze, dancers, and whores.
    Peter: 76,520?
Will: Yeah, kinda shocked me, although I was able to ride most of them.

& Sam: How old are you?
Jared: 43. This is bizzare. It’s like a... dream.
Sam: Well, I don’t know, seems like we actually may have just woken up.

& Jared: Just one piece of advice for everyone before we go in there. This could get a little ugly. But whatever you do... just... tell the truth. No sugar coating. Do not change a word of it. No one here is smart enough... Including the rocket scientist.

& John Tuld (by Jeremy Irons): Oh, Mr. Sullivan. You are here! Good morning. And maybe, you could tell me... what you think is going on here. And please speak as you might to a young child... or a golden retriever. It wasn’t brains, that got me here. I can assure you of that.

& Tuld: So what you’re telling me... is that... music is about to stop. And we are going to be left holding... ’the biggest bag of odorous excrement’ ever assembled in the history of capitalism?
Peter: Well sir, I’m not sure I’d... put it that way, but let me clarify... Using your analogy, what this model shows... is the music, so to speak, just slowing. If the music were to stop, as you put it, then this model would not be even close to that scenario. It would be considerably worse.

& Tuld: Let me tell you something Mr. Sullivan. Do you care to know, why I’m in this chair with you all? Why I earn the big bucks?
    Peter: Yes.
Tuld: I’m here for one reason and one reason alone. I’m here to guess, what the music might do, a week, a month, a year from now. That’s it! Nothing more.

& Tuld: There are three ways to make a living in this business... Be first, be smarter, or cheat. Now, I don’t cheat... And although I like to think, we’ve some pretty smart people in this building... it sure is a hell of a lot easier to just be first. Sell it all... today!

& Sam: John, if you do this you would’ve killed that market for years. It’s over. And you are selling something that you know has no value.
Tuld: We are selling to willing buyers at a current fair market price, so that WE may survive!
Sam: You’ll never sell anything to any of those people ever again.
    Tuld: I understand.
    Sam: Do you? Do You???

& Sam: You are panicking.
Jared: If you are first out the door that is not panicking.

& Tuld: Sarah, I need a head to feed to the traders... on the floor and the board.
Sarah (by Demi Moore): Is it me or Cohen?
    Tuld: It’s you.

& Eric Dale (by Stanley Tucci): Did you know I built a bridge once?
    Will: Sorry?
Eric: A bridge... I was an engineer before trade. It went from Dilles Bottom, Ohio to Moundsville, West Virgina. It spans 912 feet above the Ohio river. 12,100 people a day use this thing a day. And it cut out 35 miles of extra driving each way, between Wheeling and New Martinsville. That’s a combined... 847,000 miles of driving a day... Worth 25,410,000 miles... a month; and 304 millions 920,000 miles a year. Saved. Now, I completed that project in 1986... that’s 22 years ago. So, over the life of that one bridge... that’s 6 billion... 708 million... 240 thousand miles... that haven’t had to be driven! At what? Let’s say... 50 miles per hour. So, that’s a 134 million, 164 thousand 800 hours... or 559 thousand 20 days... So that one little bridge has saved the people of those two communities... a combined 1531 years of their lives not wasted in a fucking car... One thousand five hundred and 31 years!

& Seth: Am I getting fired?
Will: I don’t know... Yeah, almost definitely.
    Seth: Are you?
Will: No. Seth, its nothing you did. You’re just in a wrong firm, in a wrong time. Young guys are always the one to get called. Listen, nothing I can say’ll make you better It’s gonna suck for a while... and then you’ll be fine.

& Seth: This is really gonna affect people.
Will: Yeah, it’s gonna affect people like me.
    Seth: No, real people.
Will: Jesus, Seth. If you really wanna do this in your life you have to believe you’re necessary. And you are. People wanna live like this. In their cars and their big fucking houses, that they can’t even pay for. Then, you’re necessary. The only reason, that they all get continue living like a kings is ’cos we got our fingers on the scales in their favour. I take my hand off. Well... then the whole world gets really fucking fair, really fucking quickly and nobody asks you this. They want... but they take what we’ve to give them. But they also wanna, you know, play innocent and pretend they’ve no idea where it came from. That’s more hypocracy than I’m willing to swallow. So, fuck them. Fuck normal people! You know, the funny thing is... If tomorrow, if all of these goes tits up... they’re gonna crucify us for being too reckless. But if we are wrong? And everything gets back on track... Well then the same people are gonna laugh until they piss their pants. Because, we are gonna look like the biggest pussies that God ever let through the door.

& Peter: Have you ever done anything like this?
Sam: No... never.... not even close.
Peter: Are you sure..it’s the only... or the... right thing to do?
    Sam: For who?
    Peter: I’m not sure.
    Sam: Neither am I.

& Sarah: I didn’t think they were going to be able to get you back here.
Eric: They told me they were going to drag me through hell on everything the next two years... my options, my healthcare or I could come back here and make... $176,471.00 an hour to sit quietly... in this room. I couldn’t see much of choice.
    Sarah: It never is.

& Tuld: You’re one of the luckiest guy in the world, Sam. You could’ve been digging ditches all this years.
Sam: That’s true. And if I had... then at least holes in the ground would have been the symbol of my achievements.

& Tuld: So you think we might have put a few people out of business today. That it’s all for naught. You’ve been doing that everyday for almost forty years, Sam. And if this is all for naught... then so is everything out there. It’s just money. It’s made up. Pieces of paper with pictures on it so we don’t have to kill each other just to get something to eat. It’s not wrong. And it’s certainly no different today than its ever been. 1637, 1797, 1819, 37... 57, 84, 1901, 07, 29, 1937... 1974, 1987, Jesus! Didn’t that fuck up me up good. 92, 97, 2000 and whatever we wanna call this. All just the same thing over and over... we can’t help ourselves. And you and I can’t control it, or stop it, or even slow it. Or even ever-so-slightly alter it. We just react. And we make a lot money if we get it right. And we get left by the side of the side of the road if we get it wrong. And there have always been and there always will be the same percentage of winners and losers. Happy foxes and sad sacks. Fat cats and starving dogs in this world. Yeah, there may be more of us today than there’s ever been... But the percentages... they stay exactly the same.

Two and a Half Men 1x21

No Sniffing, No Wowing

& Charlie: If you’d listened to me in the first place, you wouldn’t be in this mess. I’m the one who told you not to marry her.
Alan: You’re also the one who told me that if I jumped off the garage roof with a bath towel tied around my neck, I could fly to school.
Charlie: The one time you listened to me...

& Laura: Now.
    Charlie: What?!
    Laura: I want you now!
    Charlie: You’ve gotta be kidding.
Alan: Charlie, I’m paying her by the hour. Just listen to her and do what she says.
Charlie: You’re the boss. I’ll get right on it.

& Laura: I want you now.
Charlie: But see, now’s really not a good time. I mean, you’re working with my brother and Crystal took a sick day. ... Okay, that’s a good point. Let me think this through. ... All right, there’s just one way to make this work.
Laura: I don’t do threesomes, Charlie.
    Charlie: Then I’m stumped.

& Charlie: That was quick.
Alan: Yeah, like every other time Judith screwed me.

The Hangover Part II

& Tracy: Where the hell are you?
    Phil: It happened again!
    Tracy: Don’t say that, please!
Phil: No this time we really fucked up. Seriously!
Tracy: What is wrong with you three?
Phil: So much Trace, I don’t even know where to begin.

& Tracy: Oh god! How bad is it, like, no wedding bad?
Phil: A little worse than that.

& Phil: Who gives a shit about her parents! Her dad hates you!
Stu: He doesn’t hate me! He’s just never spoken to me... I think it’s a cultural thing.
Phil: Why can’t you just get married in Vegas like you did the last time. It’s so much easier.
Stu: Why can’t you just be excited for me?

& Doug: Alan considers you to be one of his best friends.
Stu: I consider Alan to be insane.

& Alan: Are you really being serious, Stu? You’re inviting me?
Stu: Yeah why not? It’s gonna be fun, right?
    Alan: Phil, are you going?
    Phil: Of course!
Alan: Then it will be fun.

& Stu: What the fuck are you doing, man?
Alan: It’s my immunizations. It’s the last day I can do it.
Stu: That’s supposed to be done by a registered nurse.
Alan: I’m a nurse. Just not registered.

& Stu: I’ll see you in 20 minutes!

& Alan: My uncle Roger said that he once saw an albino polar bear.
Stu: Really? Polar bears are white. How would he know if it’s an albino?
    Alan: This one was black.
Stu: Did you ever think maybe it was just a black bear?

& Phil: Where are we?

& Chow: You ready for craziest fucking story ever...

& Phil: Ok listen. We’re just looking for a little kid.
    — 2,000 dollars.
    Phil: What!?
    — I don’t know, maybe more. How young you want this kid to be?

& Kimmy: I danced for him. He tickled me. We had sex.
    Stu: Fuck!
Phil: It’s ok. You’re not married yet. No big deal.
Stu: It’s cheating! No offense to you. You’re a lovely woman. It’s a violation of my moral code.
Kimmy: Don’t be sad. Stu you loved it. You were crying, saying how special it was.
Phil: Wait! I’m sorry. He was crying?
Alan: What a baby. He was crying.
Kimmy: You should have seen him. He was so sexy. The way he moved around. I had to ask him to slow down so I didn’t drop my load too quick.
    Stu: Load? What load?
Kimmy: Oh, you know... My sperms.
Stu: I think your English is off. You’re talking about my sperm! Where would your sperm come from?
    Kimmy: From my balls!
    Phil: Wait... Are you...
Kimmy: Hey. You’re in Bangkok, sweetie. There’s a reason they don’t call it “Bang-cunt”.
    Stu: Oh! Oh god!
    Phil: Wow.
Alan: I don’t get it. Is this a magic show?
Kimmy: Come on, Stu, it was beautiful. We climaxed at the same time.
    Stu: How’s that work?
Kimmy: Shoot my load into you. Shoot your load on the floor.
Stu: You ruined me. Ruined bottom. Oh god!

& Stu: You got shot!
    Phil: I know!

& Alan: First the monkey and now my hat. How much worse can this day get.

& Stu: Well we’re livin here in Alan town.
And he’s drivin our lives into the ground.
When we woke up we were wasted and drunk.
Phil got shot. We got beaten by a monk.
I was happy, and my life was good.
Getting married like a dentist should.
            Roasting marshmallows on a stick.
I got fucked in the ass... by a girl with a dick.

    Alan: Oh yeah, remember that.
Stu: And we’re livin in Alan town.

& Phil: Who is that fuckin guy, anyway?
Chow: An investor in my business.
Phil: Yeah, what business is that?
Chow: It’s called “not your business”, OK!?

& Chow: I have such an erection right now!

& Alan: I’ll miss you, monkey. I wish monkeys could Skype. Maybe one day...

& Phil: You ever do anything that doesn’t end up in a standoff, Chow?
Chow: I’m an international criminal. It always ends like this.

& Chow: Alan, account number. Come on, come on.
    Alan: 8-1-4, K as in knife, 2-3-9-8.

& Kingsley: Password?
    Chow: “baloney1”.
    Phil: Your password is “baloney1”?
Chow: Well it used to be just “baloney” but now they make you add number. Fuckin annoying.

& Stu: Here’s the deal man. I got a dark side! There’s a demon in me!
Alan: It’s true, he has semen in him.
    Stu: I said ’demon.’
Alan: But you also have semen in you, remember?
Stu: Not relevant, but thank you, Alan.

& Alan: Hello? Hi everyone! My name’s Alan Garner. I want to thank the Asiatic people for allowing us in your land.

Two and a Half Men 1x20

Hey, I Can Pee Outside in the Dark

& Judith: All he does is sit in his room and play that damn thing. He’s isolating, Alan.
Alan: That doesn’t mean he needs to see a therapist. He’s a normal 11-year-old kid who happens to be a little grumpy.
Judith: And I’m a normal 35-year-old mother who is running out of patience. And by patience I mean Prozac.
Alan: Wait a minute. You can’t still be 35, because...

& Charlie: Make him stop.
Alan: You’re the one who bought him the guitar, Charlie.
Charlie: The bed is vibrating so much up there I’m no longer necessary.

& Charlie: It really sounds like you’ve got your mojo working. But let’s try to turn it down now, okay?
Jake: What’d you do that for?
Charlie: Because I love you, and I don’t want that to change.

& Charlie: Anything bothering you?
    Jake: No.
Charlie: You sure? ’Cause it seems like something’s bothering you.
Jake: Okay, you wanna know what’s bothering me?
    Charlie: Yeah.
Jake: People keep on asking me what’s bothering me.

& Charlie: Did you figure out what his problem is?
Alan: No, but we determined mine was late-onset puberty.
Charlie: You were a Mexican hairless, weren’t you?

& Charlie: Morning.
Alan: Morning. Did your guest leave?
Charlie: No, she’s sleeping in. Please do not let me forget again.
Alan: Perhaps you should put a Post-it Note on your penis.
Charlie: Yeah, but then I’d have to take down the sign for the yard sale.

& Judith: It would be nice if you took a little responsibility for Jake’s problems.
    Alan: She’s right, Charlie.
Charlie: Me? What did I do?
Judith: You taught him how to gamble.
Alan: You brought strange women into the house.
Judith: You taught him how to curse in ltalian.
Alan: Your drinking sets a bad example.
Charlie: Let’s get one thing straight. I taught him how to curse in Spanish.

& Dr. Linda Freeman (aka Sue): I invited him to share his feelings with me in a confidential, non-threatening context. And after hearing everything he had to say, I must tell you very frankly... Who am I kidding, I got nothing.
Alan: That’s it? $150 an hour for “l got nothing”?
Dr. Linda Freeman: It’s $175. But that’s not really the point now, is it?

& Berta: I hope you don’t mind, but I talked to him before he went to sleep last night.
    Alan: What did you say?
Berta: I said, drink this bottle of prune juice. You feed him nothing but pizza and pancakes. It’s a wonder his eyeballs are still in their sockets.

Misfits 3x3

Episode #3.3

Hey, everyday of the week
I’m in a different city
If I stay too long
The people try to pull me down

& Alisha: Why are you so obsessed with becoming him?
Simon: I have to save you.
Alisha: You don’t have to do anything. You already saved me.
    Simon: I’ll always save you.
Alisha: It’s like you’re excited about it... If you become him, you’re going to leave me. You’re going to travel back in time and you’re going to die.
Simon: And if I don’t become him and travel back in time, you’re going to die.
Alisha: I can’t die in the past if I’m alive in the present. I don’t know anything about this Terminator time travel bullshit, but even I know that.

& Curtis: Probation worker’s big on party games.
    Simon: Maybe he’s changed.
Sean: Right, you sacks of shit. Here they are.
    Alisha: Who are they?
    Sean: Another bunch of fuck-ups.

& Sean: The sooner we start, the sooner we can all fuck off.

& Sean: OK. They’re going to tell you how they fucked up and you tell them how not to fuck up again so they don’t end up as big a fuck-ups as you.

& Rudy: Glad you and your boyfriend have finished. I hope you’ve washed your hands, and your genitals.
    Simon: I’m not gay.
Rudy: So you were showing each other your cocks because..?
    Simon: We were just... looking...
Rudy: At each other’s cocks. It’s a perfect... Oh... It’s a perfectly natural, everyday part of being a gay man. It’s like... window shopping.

& Peter: I’ve always been obsessed with superheroes. Now I’ve actually met one.
Simon: I’m not sure I’m really a superhero.
Peter: You wear a costume and you jump off buildings and you save people from muggers.
Simon: Trust me, that makes you a superhero.

& Sean: Woah! Who the fuck is this?
Rudy: It’s me auntie. Who do you think he is?
Sean: What, you’ve got a twin brother?
Rudy: Now it’s getting past you, is it, today?

& Sean: This isn’t a job share. Whoever does the crime, does the boring, mindless shit.

& Simon: I die saving her.
Peter: You die? Well if you know it’s going to happen, why don’t you wear a bullet proof vest?
Simon: Because if the future me doesn’t die, she’ll never fall in love with me as I was then, in the present. And if she doesn’t fall in love with me, I’ll never become my future self. And if I don’t become him, I won’t be able to save her and she’ll never fall in love with me. It all has to happen, exactly like it happened. It’s my destiny.
Peter: ..... That is so fucking cool.

& Alisha: D’you want any toast?
Simon: I have to face my destiny, alone.
Alisha: OK. Is that before or after you have breakfast?

& Simon: I have to terminate our relationship. ... I have to sacrifice our love for the greater good. ... Goodbye, Alisha.

& Rudy: All I’m saying is, maybe your boyfriend is a proud beautiful gay man, who likes to rub and touch other men’s penises.
Alisha: He’s not gay! He’s the best shag I ever had.
Curtis: I’ll just pretend I’m not here, yeah?

& Rudy: I’ve got a lot more control. That was my first time. I’m in full control of my ejaculate now.
Kelly: All blokes say that. Next thing you know, you’ve got come all over your face and in your hair.
    Curtis: That’s a lovely image.

can you feel it come coming
can you feel it come here it comes
its taken you forever though you’re living so fast
and you’re in for the running in a race and comin last

& Seth: What d’you want?
Kelly: A pint of lager. The expensive, French stuff.

& Seth: What’s going on?
Kelly: The usual shit. I don’t know what I did with my life before these powers came along.

& Peter: You don’t understand. It all has to happen.
Curtis: We ain’t debating it with you. It’s over.
Rudy: Yes, so you either play ball, or you play hardball.
Kelly: What does that even mean?
Rudy: Hardball. It’s like a threat, isn’t it? I’m threatening him...

& Kelly: I don’t want to hurt you, but I fucking will.

& Curtis: You’re a fucking rocket scientist!
    Kelly: Yes, I fucking am.

Captain America: The First Avenger

& Bully: You just don’t know when to give up, do you?
Steve Rogers: I can do this all day.

& Sgt. James Barnes: My last night! I got to get you cleaned up.
Steve: Why? Where are we going?
    Barnes: The future.

& Barnes: Why are you so keen to fight? There are so many important jobs...
Steve: There are men laying down their lives. I got no right to do any less than them.

& Dr. Abraham Erskine: So where is the little guy from? Actually?
    Steve: Brooklyn.

& Colonel Chester Phillips: General Patton has said that wars are fought with weapons, but they are won by men. We are going to win this war because we have the best men. ... And because they are going to get better... Much better.

& Peggy Carter: Faster, ladies! Come on. My grandmother has more life in her, God rest her soul.

& Colonel: He’s still skinny.

& Peggy: How do you feel?
    Steve: Taller.

& Steve: So, are you two... Do you... fondue?

& Gabe Jones: Who are you supposed to be?
    Steve: I’m Captain America.

& Timothy ’Dum Dum’ Dugan: Wait. You know what you’re doing?
Steve: Yeah. I’ve knocked out Adolf Hitler over 200 times.

& — I didn’t know you spoke German.
Dugan: Three semesters at Howard, switched to French, girls much cuter. Didn’t ask for the resume.

& Steve: I thought you were dead.
Barnes: I thought you were smaller.

& Steve: I had some ideas about the uniform...
    Stark: Whatever you want, pal.

& Schmidt: So, what made you so special?
Steve: Nothing. I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.

& Peggy: Wait! ... Go get him.
    Colonel: I’m not kissing you!

The Big Bang Theory 5x9

The Ornithophobia Diffusion

& Leonard: Do you think I’m overdressed?
Sheldon: It depends on the activity. For a prostate exam, yes. If you’re playing Vegas, I’d add sequins*.

& Leonard: I’m going to the movies with Penny. I don’t want her to think that I think it’s a date.
Sheldon: Do you think it’s a date?
Leonard: No, but she might think I think it’s a date even though I don’t.
Sheldon: Or you might think she thinks you think it’s a date even though she doesn’t.
    Leonard: Are we overthinking this?
    Sheldon: Sheldon: Not at all.

& Sheldon: This is Dr. Sheldon Cooper. I’m at 2311 North Robles Avenue. I’d like to report a dangerous wild animal. ... A blue jay. ... I’m sorry, this is Animal Control? I don’t understand the laughter. ... No, the bird is not in my home. If he was in my home, I obviously would have called 911.
Sir, I have no doubt that there are things that you’re frightened of. Being stuck in a dead-end public service job... Or your wife stepping out on you because you’re stuck in a dead-end public service job... Or spiders.

& Leonard: Too casual?
Sheldon: For an audience with the queen, yes. For an evening of paing a bottle of fortified wine around a flaming trash can, you look great.

& Penny: Oh, hey, if we hurry, we can make the new Jennifer Aniston movie.
Leonard: Oh, yeah, sure. There’s also an amazing documentary about building a dam on river in South America.
Penny: Okay, but the Jennifer Aniston movie has Jennifer Aniston, and she’s not building a dam.
    Leonard: Can’t argue with that.

& Leonard: I hate those movies.
    Penny: No, you don’t.
Leonard: Yes, I do. The only reason I went is because you wanted to see them, and I wanted to have sex. To this day, I can’t see a Sandra Bullock movie poster without getting both bored and aroused.

& Penny: Okay, so while we were going out, how often would you pretend to like things just to have sex with me?
    Leonard: All the time.

& Leonard: What if I start talking to a girl?
    Penny: You should!
Leonard: I’m serious. I’ll do it.
Penny: Good! Go! There are some girls right over there... What are you waiting for?
    Leonard: They’re in a group. I’m scared.

& Penny: While he was telling you things, did he mention he owns not one, but two Star Trek uniforms?
    Laura: Really?
Penny: Yeah. Wears them. Not just for Halloween.
Leonard: Hey, pal. You didn’t see me telling Kevin that you thought cold wars were only fought in winter!
Penny: Okay. Then I’ll return the favor, and I won’t tell...
    Laura: Laura.
Penny: ...Laura, that half the dirty movies you own are animated.
Leonard: When you were telling Kevin about your acting career, did you mention your long-running role as “Waitress” in a local production of The Cheesecake Factory?
Penny: Did you tell her about your lucky asthma inhaler?
    Leonard: Oh, yeah? Spell “asthma.”
    Penny: A-s... Take me home.

& Sheldon: If you were a dove, I’d call you Lovey-Dovey. Oh. Who am I kidding? This isn’t a moment for strict adherence to the literal. You’re just my little Lovey-Dovey, aren’t you?
Amy: Guess you gotta have hollow bones to get some sugar around here.

& Carol: You mind extending the invitation? Would just feel more right coming from you.
    Lori: How so?
Carol: You’re Rick’s wife. It sort of makes you our unofficial first lady.

& Dale: Our first night in camp, Daryl tells us that the whole thing reminds him of a time when he went squirrel hunting and he saw a chupacabra.
Jimmy: You believe in a blood-sucking dog?
Daryl: Do you believe dead people walking around?

& Glenn: You know, we still have 11 condoms...
Maggie: You see 11 condoms, I see 11 minutes of my life I’m never getting back.

& Shane: It’s hard enough accepting what’s happened without digging up the past. I’ll tell you what it is. It’s nostalgia. It’s like a drug. Keeps you from seeing things the way they are. That’s a danger.

& Shane: Survival, Rick. It means making hard decisions.

& Glenn: Sorry. Just returning your book.
Dale: Oh no, I’m sorry. If I had known the world was ending, I’d have brought better books.

& Glenn: Dale, you think Andrea’s on her period? I’m only asking ’cause it’s like all the women are acting really weird. And I read somewhere that when women spend a lot of time together, their cycles line up and they all get super crazy hormonal at the same time.
Dale: I’m gonna advise you to keep that theory to yourself.

& Dale: Jesus, Glenn, what were you thinking?
Glenn: I was thinking that I might be dead tomorrow.

& Andrea: I shot Daryl.
Dale: Don’t be too hard on yourself. We’ve all wanted to shoot Daryl.

& Maggie: You weren’t supposed to see this.

Terra Nova 1x7

Proof

& Jim: What now?
    Taylor: Reel the bastard in!

& Josh: Mira’s asking me to rob my mother?..

& Maddy: At first I just thought he was embarrassed because he didn’t remember, and then he got... I don’t know, mad almost. Maybe Mom’s right... maybe I just expected too much.
Zoe: Maybe he wants your blood.
    Maddy: What?
Zoe: Well, my friend Nina said a vampire came through on the last Pilgrimage.
Maddy: Your friend Nina is just trying to scare you.
Zoe: Well, maybe one will come on the 11th.
    Maddy: We can hope...

& Maddy: Why would he pretend to lose my letter? The only thing I can think of is that he knew
that the signatures didn’t match, but... so what?
Zoe: Maybe you should trick him into eating garlic.
    Maddy: What?
    Zoe: It burns them.
Maddy: Zoe, he’s still not a vampire.
    Zoe: I think he is.

& Curran: So, what now, are you going to kill me?
Taylor: You seem to be doing a pretty good job of that yourself.

& Maddy: Maybe Horton did actually write the letter, but his assistant was the one that mailed it, and that’s why the DNA matches but the signatures don’t. What if he stole his boss’s identity to get to Terra Nova?
Zoe: So are they both vampires?

& Boylan: I hate violence. It’s never the answer.

House M.D. 8x6

Parents

& Chase: ’Round-the-clock or not, parenting’s an impossible job. No way not to mess it up.
House: Makes sense. Park’s tiger mom and dad were so insufferable*, she has to measure their affection* in hours. Chase’s careerist dad and alcoholic mom were so indifferent, he has to believe it’s a wash*. Your turn. What did your screwed-up parents do to screw up your view of parenting?
    Adams: They were good parents.
House: That’s an oxymoron. Chase is right. All parents screw up all children. He’s also dreamy, but it’s not relevant now.

& Patient in the clinic: I need Insulin.
House: I know it. Much as I’d like to kill you by dangerously lowering your blood sugar, murder violates my parole.

& Taub: What are you doing with her?
House: “Her”?! Surely this bundle of fun has an actual name.
    Taub: It’s Sophie.
Chase: Both your kids are named...
Taub: She’s Sophie. The other one’s Sophia. It different enough.

& House: It’s not my fault. Bad parenting.

& Adams: You’re a smart, successful doctor. How much damage could you have?
Chase: Know how I got interested in medicine?.. When my mother drank, she couldn’t handle me, so she locked me in my father’s study. Only so many hours you can cry and bang on the door before you give up, find something to read. We all have family dysfunction. That’s why we’re successful. To fill that hole.

& Park: This is how you plan to get to the boxing game? Why are you looking at her?
House: ’Cause I’m stunned, and I have to look at something. Match, bout, fight, contest, day, Helena... Almost anything works after “boxing,” except the word “game.”

& Park: Do you only like tests that involve the risk of death?
House: There are some slower, less conclusive tests, but why take that risk?

& Clinic Patient’s Wife: Could you write me a fake prescription for Insulin?
House: The advantage of fake prescriptions is, you don’t have to be a real doctor to write one.
Patient’s Wife: Just tell me what’s safe to inject in his thigh...
House: Imaginary medicine is not my specialty. I do have an imaginary colleague who’s just sent me an imaginary page. Imagine how sorry I am.

& Wilson: So you’ll let him go?
Foreman: No. I get why he wants to go to that fight. I’d love to go myself, which is kind of why I have to stop him. My job is to be the jerk. House has to believe that I have authority over him.
Wilson: He can’t function under someone’s thumb.
Foreman: I know, which means you can’t go either... Your job is to be his friend, to stay here and sit with him and watch the fight on pay-per-view while bitching about me. If we both do our jobs, we might actually get him through his parole.
    Wilson: ... You’re right!

& Taub: I didn’t tell him.
House: Your heart said he needed to know. Your brain knew he’s better off without it. Following your heart is easy. Following your brain is tough. Especially after years of following that much smaller third organ. That’s why all parents screw up all children.

& House: Evening.
Adams: Clever tactic, pretending you’re not interested anymore.
House: How could that possibly work as a tactic? The fact is, once I saw those incompletes, I knew your parents screwed you up. The details are just gravy.
    Adams: You’re wrong. {...}

& House: Your parents screwed you up by not screwing you up.
Adams: How does briefly wishing I was screwed up make me screwed up?
House: It’s normal to be screwed up. It’s really screwed up to romanticize it. I guess that’s why you wanted to work with prisoners.
Adams: It’s why I wanted to work with you.
    House: It was a tactic.

&  – Фамильон – это новая, постмодернистская ячейка общества. В традиционном обществе такой ячейкой была семья. Но общество глобализировалось, то есть разрослось, и семья утратила свой структурный смысл. Семья была кирпичом, а стала молекулой. Но дом строится из кирпичей, а не из молекул. Попросту говоря, семья сделалась нежизнеспособной. Живя семьёй, сейчас не выжить. Одного супруга слишком мало, а одного ребёнка слишком много. {...}
    Фамильон строится на лидере. Лидер добивается доступа к ресурсу и пристраивает всех, кого сочтёт нужным. Этот коллектив становится фамильоном. Первый пример – Ельцин и его круг. А ресурс – государство Российское. {...}
    – Мафия, контора, семья – это побочные смыслы фамильона, подчинённая частность. В идеале же фамильон – это не мафия, потому что в нём нет криминала. И это не клан, потому что между его членами нет родственной связи. И не фирма, потому что не бизнес. И даже не семья, потому что многие члены фамильона даже не догадываются, что они входят в фамильон. {...} Фамильон – даже не команда, потому что нет единомыслия, нет общей заявленной цели, а между членами фамильона – неприязнь. {...}
    Всей полнотой информации обладает только лидер. Всё замыкается на его персоне. Его все любят или уважают. И лидеру нужна неприязнь внутри фамильона. Без неё члены фамильона смогут договориться между собой и послать лидера куда подальше. {...}

Two and a Half Men 1x19

I Remember the Coatroom, I Just Don't Remember You

& Charlie: Hey, guys, I just found out. Jake’s birthday is, like, in a week. Shouldn’t we make plans?
    Alan: You’re right, he’s a schmuck.
    Charlie: What?
Alan: We know when his birthday is, Charlie. We were there.

& Evelyn: Open Grandmommy’s present.
    Jake: ....... Clothes?
    Evelyn: Happy birthday!
Jake: Thanks a lot, but clothes?..
Evelyn: Not clothes, darling. It’s Calvin Klein.
    Jake: No, it’s clothes.
Evelyn: Believe me, sweetheart, the girls are gonna love you in this.
    Jake: What girls?
Evelyn: All right, the other boys will be envious.
Jake: The other boys will beat me up.
Evelyn: Well, there’s just no pleasing you, is there?

& Alan: Judith and Liz have been at each other’s throats for years.
    Charlie: Why’s that?
    Alan: I don’t know.
Charlie: Maybe it’s because Liz was always more popular...
Alan: Maybe because Judith was smarter. Maybe, and this is just a theory on my part, it had something to do with the fact that Liz did my brother in the coatroom at our wedding reception.
Charlie: Well, no secret why she was popular.
Alan: At our wedding reception, Charlie! In the coatroom. You were louder than the band.
Charlie: Hey, you make it sound so sleazy.
Alan: I’m sorry. Class it up for me.
Charlie: Okay, to begin with, we were on a mink coat...
    Alan: Goodbye.

& Jake: Why are they fighting?
Alan: They’re not fighting. They’re discussing.
Jake: I’m a child of divorce, Dad. I know the difference.

& Evelyn: My God, that clown has no legs!

Two and a Half Men 1x18

An Old Flame with a New Wick

& Bill: Charlie, look at me.
Charlie: How do you know my name?
    Bill: It’s me.
    Charlie: Me who? ... No!
    Bill: Yes.
    Charlie: Jill?!
    Bill: Bill.
Charlie: No.... We’re gonna need two shots of tequila.
    Bill: That’s okay, I don’t want to...
    Charlie: They’re not for you.

& Charlie: Good luck with the penis.

& Alan: Mom’s here.
    Charlie: No problem, I’m drunk.

& Alan: I’m trying, Charlie. I’m trying to be open-minded. But our mom with a guy who’s younger than us, it’s just freaking me out.
Charlie: Trust me, Alan. Very soon you’re gonna be looking back on this moment with fond nostalgia.

& Alan: Do you realize what this means?
Charlie: Yes. I slept with a woman who wanted to be a man. Or, I slept with a man in a woman’s body. Or, and this is my new favorite, and the title of my autobiography, ’My mom and I slept with the same dude.’

& Alan: What do you want to hear?
Charlie: I want you to tell me that there is no chance that either of us will ever have to call a woman I slept with “Daddy.”

& Berta: Nothing exciting happening in your world, Charlie?
    Charlie: Like what?
Berta: I don’t know. Go to a fun party? See a great movie? Run into an old flame with a new wick*? What are the odds?.. One brother turns them gay, and the other turns them guy.
Charlie: If you don’t mind, Berta, I’d rather not talk about it.
Berta: Okay. I’ll fix you something to eat. How about a sausage link and a couple eggs?

& Evelyn: You know, I’d really rather not discuss this in front of the help.
Charlie: Berta, could you give us some privacy?
    Berta: Hell, no.
    Charlie: Sorry.

& Alan: Wow, she doesn’t know.
Charlie: Someone’s going to have to tell her.
    Berta: Charlie?
    Charlie: What?
Berta: I’ll clean your house free for a month if you let me do it.

& Alan: Okay, we’ll make a list. The pros and cons of continuing your relationship with Bill. Mom?
Evelyn: Well, he certainly understands women...
    Alan: Okay, that’s a pro.
Charlie: He used to be a woman.
Alan: I’ll put con. He slept with Charlie when he was a woman.
Charlie: Pro. No, wait, con. Definitely con.
Evelyn: He knows what I like in bed.
Charlie: He knows what I like in bed.
Alan: We’ll call that a wash*.
    Evelyn: What’s the score?
    Alan: It’s about even.
Evelyn: He’s gorgeous. He can afford beach-front property and he’s got a trunk full of fabulous shoes that fit me perfectly. Don’t wait up, Mommy’s got a date.

Misfits 3x2

Episode #3.2

& Ruby: Imagine being up to your balls in there.

& Ruby: You should do the lottery. Use your power. See the numbers. Stick it to them. We’ll split it, 50:50.
Simon: Why should I split it with you?
Ruby: Because it was my idea, you! I’m the brains, you’re the stare. ... OK. 60:50.
Simon: It’s supposed to add up to 100.
Ruby: Whoa, don’t you even think about screwing me, sweet cheeks! 70:40. Final offer. ... Ah! Fine! 80:30. But I feel like I’ve been raped, and not in a good way.

& Ruby: Look, it happens to all of us. Women are cruel and insensitive, and they are hurtful. But they’re so beautiful. They smell really nice. They smell like... Toffee apples.

Boom chakka, uh uh uh
Uh chakka, uh uh
I’m putting out fires
All over the place
I guess it knocked me sideways
& Curtis: Do me a favour. Zip me up.

& Simon: We think differently to them. Girls.
Curtis: That’s not all. The sex... You ain’t lived until you’ve had a multiple orgasm. Guys are getting short-changed. Ours is all, “Uh! Pth.” Their’s... The slow build up, then it’s like... all through your body, ha, like waves of pleasure.
    Simon: Are you a lesbian?
Curtis: What? No! No. When I’m her, I’m still me and... and I like girls, so I guess she does, too.
Simon: So she is a lesbian?
Curtis: I don’t think there’s an official term for this shit.

& Curtis: Why are you looking at my tits?

& Curtis: Emma?
    Emma: What’re you doing?!
Ruby: I’m, er... I’m pleasuring you?.. It’s not generally a spectator sport.
Curtis: I thought it was you!
Ruby: Is that why you were calling me “Emma”?

& Curtis: You have no idea what it’s like to be a woman. What?!
Kelly: I think you got your period.

& Kelly: Curtis? I know it’s you. Are you all right?
    Curtis: Oh, yeah. I’m great!
Kelly: D’you need a tampon? D’you need me to show you how to shove it up there?

& Ruby: Ooh, I’ve got it!
Kelly: Eugh, is that a pube?
Ruby: Mmm! D’you want it back?
    Alisha: Did you...?
Ruby: For a bloke, he’s got a lovely pussy.
