War

The Crown 4×10

Prince Charles: ... So I hope you agree it leaves me no option but to start a formal separation.
Queen Elizabeth II: Oh, Charles!
Prince Charles: I'm wretchedly unhappy, yet there is someone else out there who would make me perfectly happy--
Prince Philip: Quick, switch on the television.
Queen Elizabeth II: Why?
Prince Philip: It's the Ides of March. It's Julius Caesar, or should I say Julia Caesar?
Prince Charles: We're in the middle of an important conversation--
Prince Philip: Shh!

Prince Charles: .... Although I gather you still found time to see… certain other people.
Princess Diana: I think this conversation's gone as far as it can.
Prince Charles: You were the one who insisted on talking. I always said silence was preferable.

Margaret Thatcher: Oh, poor Geoffrey. I'd offered him the position of deputy prime minister, and he seems to have taken it rather the wrong way.
Queen Elizabeth II: In the newspapers, his speech is seen as a direct challenge to your authority.
Margaret Thatcher: I think that all depends on which newspapers you're reading.
Queen Elizabeth II: Not just newspapers. Television too.
Margaret Thatcher: Or watching.

Margaret Thatcher: Oh, those little men! And you want me to get on my knees to them? Never. Have them brought in to me. One by one.

Queen Elizabeth II: Have you consulted Cabinet on this matter?
Margaret Thatcher: I have not, ma'am.
Queen Elizabeth II: Surely that would be the normal course of action?
Margaret Thatcher: With all due respect, the decision to dissolve Parliament is in the gift of the prime minister alone. It is entirely within my power to do this if I see fit.
Queen Elizabeth II: You are correct. Technically, it is within your power to request this. But we must all ask ourselves when to exercise those things that are within our power and when not to.

Queen Elizabeth II: Your first instinct as a person, I think, is often to act. To exercise power.
Margaret Thatcher: Well, that is what people want in a leader. To show conviction and strength. To lead.
Queen Elizabeth II: I'm merely asking the question. Whether it is correct to exercise a power simply because it is yours to use...

Queen Elizabeth II: Power is nothing without authority. And at this moment, your Cabinet is against you. Your party is against you. And if the polls are to be believed, if you were to call a general election today, you would not win. Which suggests the country is against you. Perhaps the time has come for you to try doing nothing for once.
Margaret Thatcher: The difference is… you have power… in doing nothing. I… will have nothing.
Queen Elizabeth II: You will have your dignity.
Margaret Thatcher: There is no dignity in the wilderness.
Queen Elizabeth II: Then might I suggest you don't think of it as that. Think of it as an opportunity to pursue other passions.
Margaret Thatcher: I have other loves. My husband, my children… But this job is my only true passion. And to have it taken from me… stolen from me so cruelly…

Margaret Thatcher: What hurts the most is that we had come so far. And now to have the opportunity to finish the job snatched away at the very last…

Camilla Parker Bowles: I'm an old woman. I'm a married woman. Nowhere near as pretty, nowhere near as radiant. Someone who looks like me has no place in a fairy tale. That's all people want, is a fairy tale.
Prince Charles: If they knew the truth about our feelings for one another, they'd have their fairy tale.
Camilla Parker Bowles: No! To be the protagonist of a fairy tale, you must first be wronged. A victim. Which, if we were to become public, we would make her. In the narrative laws of fairy tales versus reality… the fairy tale always prevails.

Camilla Parker Bowles: She will… always defeat me in the court of public opinion.
Prince Charles: What is all this, my darling? What's got into you today?
Camilla Parker Bowles: It's reality, sir. She's the Princess of Wales. She's a future queen, the mother to a future king. And I'm just...
Prince Charles: My one… true love.
Camilla Parker Bowles: A mistress. Mistress to the Prince of Wales, just like my great-grandmother Alice Keppel was the mistress to the Prince of Wales, your great-great-grandfather.
Prince Charles: And he loved her till the end.

Queen Elizabeth II: When I ascended the throne… I was just a girl. Twenty-five years old. And I was surrounded by stuffy, rather patronizing gray-haired men everywhere telling me what to do. And I wanted to say… the way you dealt with all your stuffy, rather patronizing gray-haired men throughout your time in office and saw them all off…
Margaret Thatcher: Well, they've had their revenge now.
Queen Elizabeth II: I was shocked by the way in which you were forced to leave office. And I wanted to offer my sympathy. Not just as Queen to prime minister… but woman to woman.

Queen Elizabeth II: Throughout the time we worked together, people tended to focus on our many differences. Which was lazy and misleading, I think. And overlooked the many things we do have in common... Our generation. Our Christianity. Our work ethic. Our sense of duty. But above all… our devotion to this country that we both love. So with that in mind…

Queen Elizabeth II: The Order of Merit… is not awarded by some faceless committee. It comes at the personal discretion of the sovereign and is in recognition of exceptionally meritorious service. It is limited to just 24 recipients, no matter their background. You could be the daughter of a duke. Or a greengrocer. What matters… is your accomplishments. And nobody can deny… that this is a very different country now to the one inherited by our first woman prime minister.
Now, it's normally handed over in the box. But if you would allow me… Congratulations.

Prince Philip: We can be a rough bunch in this family. And I'm sure, on occasion, to a sensitive creature like you, it must feel like… Well, let me ask. What does it feel like?
Princess Diana: A cold, frozen tundra.
Prince Philip: Right. Like that, then.
Princess Diana: An icy, dark, loveless cave… with no light… no hope… anywhere. Not even the faintest crack.

Prince Philip: You're right to call me an outsider. I was an outsider the day that I met the… the 13-year-old princess who would one day become my wife. And after all these years… I still am. We all are. Everyone… in this system… is a lost… lonely… irrelevant outsider… apart from the one person, the only person, that matters. She is the oxygen we all breathe. The essence of all our duty. Your problem, if I may say… is you seem to be confused about who that person is.

Miranda: Oh, come on. Outside of this, we're friends. Jesus, I even let you take care of my cat.
Cecilia: For two years! It's not your cat anymore! It's my cat that I never wanted just like these fuckin' phone calls.

Cassie: Thing is... hey, hey, hey, hey.
Buckley: Hm?
Cassie: I think he's an assassin.
Buckley: Wait. Is this... is this some sort of fantasy role play thing or something?

Buckley: Ask to see his, uh... his passport. Or... or his license to kill.

Cassie: I... okay. This is good. Wink. Just give me, like, a... Just give me a wink and then I'll know. Then I'll know. It's like a sign... Okay. That was not a wink but it was something. You're FBI!

Cassie: You're the worst.

Buckley: Do you always hang out in your friends' apartments when they're not home?
Cassie: No. They gotta come home sometime, right?

Annie: You're right. That's... maybe, um... maybe our friendship only works because, uh... we don't show each other the messy bits. You never had to call me a liar and I never had to call you a drunk but that's what we are, Cass.
Cassie: I am not a drunk.

Cassie: You know, you're gonna feel really bad when I wind up dead.

Davey: Do you wanna tell me what's going on? Because I know something is going on. Just so maybe I can help.
Cassie: No. Just, you know, ruining my life one person a time.

August: I thought it was over.
Martin: We still need to try to catch him.

Saga: Where were you? I thought you were sleeping at my place.
Martin: I slept at home... I haven't got anything going on with Saga, though.
Saga: Martin were unfaithful and then his wife threw him out.
Martin: That's right. Now you all know that.

Martin: Think out loud.

Martin: I had certainly never wanted to cause her death.
Saga: You didn't.
Martin: She wanted to tell... Without me, there wouldn't have been anything to say.
Saga: Without a bridge, there'd be no accident. So you shouldn't think you're responsible.
Martin: But I do.

Martin: Do you ever tell the others you appreciate their work?
Saga: Why? I just tell them what to do.
Martin: They do it well.
Saga: It's their job to get it right.
Martin: Don't you like to be praised?
Saga: No, I don't need it. Do you think it's important?
Martin: Very. Most people find it important. Do you want to praise me now? It's okay to do that.
Saga: What do you want me to say?
Martin: It doesn't work like that. It's like wanting somebody to say he loves you. It should come by itself... Did you miss me yesterday?
Saga: When?
Martin: Last night when I didn't come.
Saga: A little.

Saga: Martin. I won't lie to Hans.
Martin: What are you lying about then?
Saga: I haven't told him you had a thing with Mikaela.
Martin: You haven't told everything. That's not lying.
Saga: Not tell the truth is the same as lying.
Martin: But has he asked you about it? If he'd asked, would you conceal anything?.. Then you haven't lied.
Saga: He'll come to know sooner or later.
Martin: You say you knew, but you didn't think it was important.
Saga: But then I lied.
Martin: Is it important?
Saga: Until now, no.
Martin: Then that's it.

Mette: Thanks for today. It was fun.

The Crown 4×9

Prince Charles: What were you thinking?!
Princess Diana: I was trying to make you happy.
Prince Charles: That grotesque, mortifying display had nothing to do with me or my happiness. Eight minutes they were on their feet, cheering you! Tomorrow the newspapers will be about nothing other than you.
Princess Diana: People will see it was about my feelings for you.
Prince Charles: If you had any feelings for me, if you had… any understanding of me… if you had anything between your ears other than self-obsession, you would know public displays like that horrify me.

Prince Philip: Why did you never do that for me?
Queen Elizabeth II: Dance on your birthday?
Prince Philip: Yes. Like Salome.
Queen Elizabeth II: Because, if memory serves, you had your own ballerinas for that.
Prince Philip: Honestly. The rubbish you talk sometimes...

Martin Charteris: Um… We have contingency plans in place for all members of the royal family. "Menai Bridge" is no exception... It's the code name for the death of the Prince of Wales.

Prince Philip: Why bridges?
Queen Elizabeth II: We're all bridges. I'm London Bridge. Mummy's Tay Bridge. You're Forth Bridge. The choice of name… was to suggest a link between this life and… and the next.

Queen Elizabeth II: As his sister and confidante, I thought you might throw some light on a subject about which I've been ostriching, rather. The true state of Charles's marriage.
Princess Anne: You don't want to know.
Queen Elizabeth II: Actually, I do.

Princess Anne: The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
Queen Elizabeth II: Please.
Princess Anne: All right. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young girl who fell madly in love with a handsome prince. Unfortunately, the prince was already in love with someone else, who was herself in love with someone else, and they all lived unhappily ever after. That's it, in a nutshell. Do you need more?
Queen Elizabeth II: A little.

Princess Anne: There comes a point in any failing marriage, and here I speak with some experience, when you realize there's no point in trying anymore, and it's easier to just let the current take you away.

Princess Anne: Unfortunately, the Wales marriage is a rare example of something that is actually worse than the newspapers report.

Queen Elizabeth II: I asked you here today because word has reached me about the difficulties you're experiencing. But something as important as the marriage of the future monarch simply cannot be allowed to fail. Your marriage, all our marriages, are a reflection on the integrity of the Crown. And if they show cracks… that they cannot be relied upon, then the constancy and stability that the monarchy is supposed to represent is called into question too. So I would like to ask one fundamental question of you both... Does either of you no longer want this marriage to work?

Queen Elizabeth II: And do you understand what it takes to make a marriage work? The respect one must show the other party. The blind eyes one needs to turn. The arrangements both of you must come to. The freedoms both of you must respect. And the rules you must abide by.
Princess Diana: I am ready… to commit… to anything. To go to any lengths. And I want to say to you… that I'm sorry… for my part… in everything.
Queen Elizabeth II: Good. Well, that's that, then.
Prince Charles: What? Do I get a chance to speak?
Prince Philip: And say what? What else is there to say?

Edward Adeane: As a matter of fact, the Princess of Wales made a point of requesting you be in Highgrove that weekend. She said she had something specific in mind.

Princess Anne: The majority of marriages survive because the majority of people aren't fantasists. They are realists and accept the imperfect reality of being human.

Prince Charles: You're lying.
Princess Anne: No, I'm not. I'm trying to protect you.
Prince Charles: I come here seeking comfort from my sibling, and what do I get?
Princess Anne: The unvarnished truth.
Prince Charles: What does one have to do to get some kindness in this family?

Monica: I'm never gonna find a boyfriend again. I'm gonna die an old maid.
Chandler: You're not gonna die an old maid. Maybe an old spinster cook.
Monica: Thanks.
Chandler: Hey, besides, worse comes to worse... I'll be your boyfriend.
Monica: Ha-ha-ha... Yeah, right.
Chandler: Why is that so funny?
Monica: You made a joke, right? So I laughed.
Chandler: A little too hard. What, am I not, uh, boyfriend material?
Monica: No. You're Chandler. You know. Chandler.

Phoebe: Oh, I am having the best karma this week. First, I find this woman who knew my parents... and then my client with the fuzzy back gives me his beach house.
Chandler: What about that, uh, bike messenger you hit?
Phoebe: Oh, I wasn't talking about his karma.

Joey: Strip poker. We should play strip poker.
Rachel: No!
Monica: Are you crazy?
Joey: Come on. When you go away, you have to play. It's, like, a law.

Bonnie: Come on, touch it.
Ross: Okay... One can feel all the bones in your skull.

Joey: Wanna play strip poker for practice?

Joey: Come on, see? She doesn't look that bad.

Saga: Talking. As colleagues do.
Martin: You have no talent for it. So don't.
Saga: Do I irritate you now?
Martin: No.

Saga: More than other people?
Martin: Now and then. You don't care anyway what other people think of you? Saga: Well. It's important to me how you feel about me... Is Mette unfaithful to you too?
Martin: No.
Saga: I read, in unhappy relationships both parties often seek solace outside.
Martin: We aren't unhappy.
Saga: Why are you weird?
Martin: Does it really matter to you what I think about you? Then you must stop now. Thank you.

Hans: ... This gets us no further.
Saga: We try it again.

Martin: Why?
Saga: He wants to go back to Gothenburg. Closer to the children.
Martin: I can understand that.
Saga: It is one hour by plane and three by train. How close do you have to get?

August: You know why you stayed away? Because you always chose the path of least resistance. You get used to in. And you stay that way.

August: In some respects you are the dumbest man I know.

The Mandalorian: This is Tython. That's where we're gonna try and find you a Jedi. But you have to agree to go with them if they want you to. Understand? Plus, I can't train you. You're too powerful.

The Mandalorian: Don't you wanna learn more of that Jedi stuff? I agreed to take you back to your own kind, so that's what I need to do. You understand, right?

Cassie: I'm... starting to think this is my fault.
Annie: She means metaphorically. That was not an admission of guilt.

Max: That sounds too good to be true, so I'm gonna just remove myself from the situation.

Cassie: Drink this and calm the fuck down. Let's get some answers.

Cassie: Wait, wait, wait, wait. When I was in Westchester at Alex's, there was a sticky note that said, "Alex: 7226..." Ha!
Max: How do you remember that?
Cassie: Flight 7226 is JFK to Johannesburg. I know my flights.

Cassie: Vintage fetish collection... In chronological order. Getting less sexy.

Alex: How would you like it if I waltzed through your apartment and started piecing things together without any context?

Max: Why do you keep looking over your shoulder?
Cassie: It's a thing I do now.

Cassie: You are so not the good guy anymore.

Alex: You say you wanna help people, but really, you're just attracted to disaster. You weren't concerned. You were excited.
Cassie: It wasn't about helping people. I was... I was running towards the crash.

Davey: So what's the deal with the apartment? Did you call the police?

Saga: Initiative: 1, insight: 0. Misconduct.

Martin: We can't do anything more here.
Saga: You can always do more.

August: What was that?
Martin: None of your business. Saga is my colleague and you're my son.
August: I'll do what I want.
Martin: No. You don't. As long as you live with me, you obey my rules.
August: How do I know your rules if you've never told me?

Daniel: I died last night. I laid lifeless on the ground for 2 minutes 33 seconds. I saw no tunnel. No light... It was just dark, Åke. Very dark.

The Crown 4×8

Michael Shea: You should know better than to come to me with nonsense like that, Sarah. In the 33 years she's been on the throne, the Queen has never once expressed a point of view about her prime ministers, positive or negative, and never will. Political impartiality and support of her prime minister is an article of faith to her. And we all know how the Queen is… about her faith.

Margaret Thatcher: The Commonwealth. Ridiculous waste of time. Ridiculous organization. Worse. Morally offensive. Why we allow our Queen to fraternize with countries like Uganda, Malawi, Nigeria, Swaziland… Unstable countries. Unstable despotisms with appalling human rights records. And calling them "family"!

Queen Elizabeth II: It is my fervent hope that Britain will join the other countries of the Commonwealth and impose sanctions on an apartheid regime that has no place in the modern world.
Margaret Thatcher: Let us be quite clear about this. Nothing useful can be achieved by sanctions.

Queen Elizabeth II: Might we look at it from the South African point of view?
Margaret Thatcher: I am, ma'am. South Africa is already a disinvestment economy.
Queen Elizabeth II: But Black South Africans want sanctions, so shouldn't we listen to them?
Margaret Thatcher: Black South Africans don't want to inherit a wasteland.
Queen Elizabeth II: They will if they feel it is their wasteland. President Kaunda of Zambia would confirm as much.
Margaret Thatcher: It is not the business of a British prime minister to consult with unelected dictators.
Queen Elizabeth II: But it is a sovereign's duty when they are part of the Commonwealth.
Margaret Thatcher: Yes. The Commonwealth...
Queen Elizabeth II: Yes, the Commonwealth.
Margaret Thatcher: I recognize that for your family, the transition of this nation from empire to comparative supplicancy on the world stage must have come as a greater shock than to the rest of us. But I would argue that the Commonwealth is not the way to fill that gap. There are ways of Britain being great again, and that is through a revitalized economy, not through association with unreliable tribal leaders in eccentric costumes.
Queen Elizabeth II: But isn't that all I am, Prime Minister? A tribal leader in eccentric costume?
Margaret Thatcher: Certainly not. You're head of an evolved constitutional monarchy to William the Conqueror. It's not comparing like with like.
Queen Elizabeth II: Ah, now that's where we differ. You see, I consider myself to be exactly like them. To me, Ghana, Zambia, Malawi are all great sovereign nations with great histories. I am aware you probably don't share that view. To you, the Commonwealth is something of a distraction, a waste of time. But in many ways, I have given my life to it. It was the pledge I made 40 years ago.
Margaret Thatcher: On the wireless? "To our great imperial family…" I remember listening to it as a student at Oxford. But we cannot let the values of the past distract us from the realities of the present, particularly where Britain's economic interests are concerned.

Queen Elizabeth II: Forty-eight countries of the Commonwealth are now preparing a statement condemning the South African regime and recommending tougher sanctions. What they… What I would like you to do is sign that statement.
Margaret Thatcher: If I didn't know better, that sounded very much like a directive.
Queen Elizabeth II: Think of it as a question...

Denis Thatcher: How was it?
Margaret Thatcher: My meeting with the Queen? It was a little testy. Although I must say, I do like the boat.
Denis Thatcher: Yacht.
Margaret Thatcher: It isn't a yacht. It's a great big ship.
Denis Thatcher: And when the sovereign sails in it, historically it's called a yacht.
Margaret Thatcher: Oh, don't be a know-all. It's unbecoming.
Denis Thatcher: Why was it frosty?
Margaret Thatcher: I didn't say "frosty." I said "testy." Although I wish it had been frosty. It's far too hot here.

Queen Elizabeth II: I'm determined to win this battle, Sonny. I don't often get into a fight, but when I do, I want to win.
Sir Sonny Ramphal: You will, ma'am. Remember, you are not alone. It is 48 against one.

Queen Elizabeth II: "Signals"!
Michael Shea: Yes, she agreed to "signals." And among the signals she agreed to are actually several of the sanctions she would never have contemplated had they been called sanctions.

Sir Geoffrey Howe: Well played, Margaret. A victory for common sense.
Margaret Thatcher: Whatever are you talking about?
Sir Geoffrey Howe: The other heads of government will appreciate your willingness to seek a compromise.
Margaret Thatcher: There's a reason the top job has always eluded you, Geoffrey... The absence of the killer instinct.

Journalist: Prime Minister.
Margaret Thatcher: Yes?
Journalist: You have been forced to make significant concessions.
Margaret Thatcher: Not that I noticed.
Journalist: You signed a document prepared by 48 countries who were in conflict with you.
Margaret Thatcher: I did. But the question is, did one person move to the 48, or did 48 move to one? Yes, I agreed to "signals." But as you know, with one simple turn, a signal can soon point in an entirely different direction. Thank you.

Michael Shea: No. If this magnum opus doesn't work, I'll call it a day.
Literary Agent: You could expose it all under an assumed name.
Michael Shea: Mmm. I could. But, sadly, I'm old-fashioned and would never betray those confidences or the people I'm proud to serve.
Literary Agent: I had to try...
Michael Shea: Hmm.
Literary Agent: Was that very grubby of me?
Michael Shea: Mmm. Not grubby. Just quietly heartbreaking.

Queen Elizabeth II: What if I'm not happy with the job she's doing? What if I'd be happy for people to know the displeasure was actually real? That I am personally concerned about her lack of compassion. You know how seriously I take my constitutional responsibility to remain silent, but each of us has our line in the sand. If it were to become public knowledge that there had been an unprecedented rift between sovereign and prime minister, would that really be so bad?
Michael Shea: Well… Um… If… if that really were your intention… And for the record, ma'am, I must say I think that would be... a misjudgment. And risk doing serious and irreparable harm to the relationship between Buckingham Palace and Downing Street. …then Today would not be the newspaper I would go to. I'd go somewhere with more heft, somewhere that also had a clear sense of the unprecedented nature of this, where they understood the rules of the game.

Michael Shea: It's reckless. It's reckless, Martin, and irresponsible.
Martin Charteris: I'm as surprised as you are.
Michael Shea: It goes against my professional advice, and I want my objection noted.
Martin Charteris: Noted?
Michael Shea: Noted, Martin.
Martin Charteris: It's noted. It... It's noted.

Margaret Thatcher: I'm feeling something for the very first time. Something which I never imagined feeling.
Denis Thatcher: What is that?
Margaret Thatcher: Impatience for our next audience...

Margaret Thatcher: Before coming today, I checked with the cabinet secretary, and it turns out that in the seven years I have been prime minister, we have had 164 audiences, always the model of cordiality, productivity, and mutual respect. So it is perhaps not unreasonable to expect an isolated hiccup.
Queen Elizabeth II: What hiccup?
Margaret Thatcher: I was under the impression that Her Majesty never expressed her political views in public.
Queen Elizabeth II: I don't.
Margaret Thatcher: That there was an unbreakable code of silence between sovereign and first minister.
Queen Elizabeth II: If you're referring to the Sunday Times, I've always advised my prime ministers against reading the newspapers.
Margaret Thatcher: I don't, ma'am.
Queen Elizabeth II: They misunderstand, misquote, and misrepresent. Then everybody gets into a fluster.

Queen Elizabeth II: Well, I'm sure a clarification will soon be forthcoming. In the meantime, should we make a start on the business of the week? Only I am mindful of the time.
Margaret Thatcher: This is the business, ma'am. The only business. Margaret Thatcher: I think we have enough respect for one another personally to ask ourselves some of the bigger questions, woman to woman. We are the same age, after all.
Queen Elizabeth II: Really?
Margaret Thatcher: Just six months between us.
Queen Elizabeth II: Oh? And who is the senior?
Margaret Thatcher: I am… ma'am.

Prince Andrew: What was she thinking?
Prince Charles: She did what she's spent her life telling me I cannot do. She opened her mouth and expressed an opinion.
Prince Andrew: And is being slaughtered for it. Bloody thoughtless of her if you ask me.
Prince Charles: You can hardly blame the newspapers for wanting to write about something other than the wedding of a fringe member of the family who'll never be king.
Princess Anne: Ouch!
Prince Charles: Well, it's true, isn't it? Fourth in line now, and by the time William's had children, and his children have had children… Fringe. Shall we?
Prince Andrew: Did he really just say that? On my wedding day?
Prince Edward: That was impressively cunty.

Martin Charteris: And I think we're now going to have to give them something...
Queen Elizabeth II: What?
Martin Charteris: A culprit. To deflect blame from you and to put these flames out ASAP. We need to let them have a name.

Martin Charteris: The fact is that the steps you took were completely unprofessional--
Michael Shea: Martin, stop it.
Martin Charteris: Impugning the integrity of the palace and of the Queen herself.
Michael Shea: We know one another too well. This is madness.
Martin Charteris: I hope we can rely on you… to do the right thing.
Michael Shea: .... Of course.

Bible Camp and a Chariot of Love

Young Sheldon 4×4

Paige: So, why are you here? Do you believe in this stuff now?
Sheldon: No. Stamp camp got canceled. Further proof there is no God.

Georgie: I did it. I bought a car.
George: Really? You got the Mustang?
Georgie: I was fixing to, but then something else caught my eye.
George: You did something dumb.

Georgie: Check this out. Look at all the room.
George: Hell, no.
Georgie: Why?
George: This isn't a car. It's a motel room on wheels.
Georgie: Is that how little you think of me?
George: Yes. Maybe less.

Georgie: Please, listen to me. Come on. If I drive Sheldon to college, he can sleep back there.
George: So, you saw that couch, and the first thought you had was, "My brother can sleep on that"?
Georgie: Not exactly my first thought...

Pastor Jeff: Hello, Biblenauts! Gather round. Now, who's ready to find space for Jesus in our hearts?
Georgie: Fine. I'll move out.
George: And where you gonna go?
Georgie: I'll live in the van.
George: You know what? It was only a matter of time before you lived in a van. Have at it.
Georgie: Scooby-Doo lived in a van, and he turned out fine!

Georgie: Check out the best part... Want to try it out?
Jana: In front of your parents' house?
Georgie: That's what's so great. We can drive it anywhere. Empty field, abandoned parking lot... Wherever love takes us.

Mary: You know you can't live in here.
Georgie: Why not?
Mary: It's hot out.
Georgie: The windows roll down.
Mary: How are you gonna take a shower?
Georgie: It's supposed to rain this weekend.
Mary: What about a bathroom?
Georgie: See that bucket?
Mary: Good night.

Missy: God, when Sheldon dies, please send him to monkey hell. Amen.

Georgie: Get it off! Get it off!
Mary: What was that?
Georgie: It's in my hair!
George: Not my problem.
Georgie: It's in my hair! It's in my hair!

Sheldon: Did I do it? Did I get under your skin?

Missy: I can still hear the sound of her fist hitting your face and your head bouncing off the floor... It was like, "Thwack," and then, "Kathunk..." And there were doughnut holes. What a great day!

Henrik: Is it true that sharks die if they stop swimming?
Saga: Most of them sink because they don't have swim bladders.
Henrik: So they die if they stop swimming.
Saga: If they stop breathing, then they stop swimming.
Henrik: And then they die.
Saga: If they don't start swimming again.

Henrik: What's that?
Saga: Prunes. Want some?
Henrik: No, thanks... It is something you're having because you're pregnant?
Saga: No, I'm constipated.
Henrik: Oh, okay.
Saga: My breasts are bigger, too. Have you noticed? They are. The nipples, too.

Saga: I made a list of people who have been important in my life. Hans meant a lot to me. Most of the people who meant a lot to me either died... or left.
Lillian: You have Henrik. You're good for each other.
Saga: How do you know that?
Lillian: I can see it.
Saga: I see.

Lillian: Take care of what you have. It can end so quickly.

Henrik: So you're going to live here?
Saga: Yes. But you need realistic expectations. I'm not good at it.
Henrik: Then it's going to go well.
Saga: I tried to live with someone before. It was a failure.
Henrik: But that wasn't with me.

Saga: But I thought you'd understand.
Henrik: Understand what?! You don't fucking know me at all. Come on, get out!
Saga: When one is in love, the brain's reward system releases neurotransmitters... like serotonin and dopamine. The amount of the hormone oxytocin also increases in the body... Oxytocin can affect memories, and serotonin creates insomnia... but most of all, it gives a feeling of pleasure. I think I'm in love with you.

Hans: How are you?
Martin: Fine, as long as I swallow painkillers.

Saga: According to Daniel Ferbé, the TT says he's behind it. Due to budget cuts in psychiatry. ... This is the third problem.

Saga: I'll send someone to issue a citation.
Fur Shop Owner: Why?
Saga: The camera in the window is illegal.
Fur Shop Owner: No way! It was a joke, right?
Martin: She never makes jokes. I'll see what I can do.

Martin: Are there any rules you don't follow?
Saga: Why?
Martin: I'm just wondering.
Saga: Rules are there to be followed. You mean the camera? That's illegal.
Martin: He's helping us.
Saga: Maybe.
Martin: He wants to help us. He was helpful.
Saga: And then you'd condone anything?
Martin: I don't mean that. If anyone wants to help us, you'd prosecute him for something else.
Saga: Why not?
Martin: You just don't. These are unwritten rules.
Saga: I don't know such rules.

Martin: I'm coming home. Saga sends her greetings.
Saga: Why did you say that? I didn't send greetings to her.
Martin: But I had to do it.
Saga: Is that an unwritten rule?

Еke: The addresses of psychiatric patients... What is wrong with you? What about ethics?! Is that legal?
Daniel: I asked to add word 'probably.'
Еke: He just wants people to be afraid.
Daniel: He just wants to identify what the problems are.
Еke: Not every psychiatric patient is a potential killer... The parents of the boy who killed the postman... have been trying for weeks to get their son committed. We need to write about that. Daniel: You don't decide what we write.
Еke: No, the TT does. You are a dork he's making use of.
Daniel: That's better than being an ordinary fool.

Anjas mamma: She can still come home?
Martin: Yes, I promise...
Saga: You can't promise! We'll do our best, but we can't promise anything. ....
Martin: You know sometimes what you say?
Saga: What?
Martin: Do you know what you say when open your mouth?!
Saga: We can't promise she'll come back. She may be dead.
Martin: Eight hours ago she was alive.
Saga: Therefore, she can now be dead. 30 percent of all people who disappear, don't come back.
Martin: I know. And I think they know that too. But sometimes you have to tell people what they want to hear... even if it isn't true.

Saga: Martin, wait. So people sometimes want to be lied to?
Martin: Yes sometimes people want to be told a lie.
Saga: What do we say if she is dead? You promised.
Martin: Now you're getting on my nerves.
Saga: Oh yeah?

Tenet (2020)

Protagonist: Hey! We live in a twilight world... We live in a twilight world.
Well-Dressed Man: And there are no friends at dusk.

Fay: Welcome to the afterlife.

Fay: We all believe we'd run into the burning building. But until we feel that heat, we can never know. You do.

Fay: Your duty transcends national interests. This is about survival.
Protagonist: Whose?
Fay: Everyone's.

Fay: There's a cold war, cold as ice. To even know its true nature is to lose. This is knowledge divided. All I have for you is a gesture in combination with a word. "Tenet." Use it carefully. It'll open the right doors, but some of the wrong ones, too.

Barbara: With a high-vis vest and a clipboard, you can get almost anywhere. Almost.
Protagonist: An obscure tenet.

Protagonist: I thought I was here to find out what we do.
Barbara: You're not here for "what," you're here for "how." "What" is your department and not my business.

Barbara: As I understand it, we're trying to prevent World War III.
Protagonist: Nuclear holocaust?
Barbara: No... Something worse.

Protagonist: How?
Barbara: One of these bullets is like us, traveling forwards through time. The other one's going backwards. Can you tell which is which?

Barbara: It's inverted. Its entropy runs backwards. So, to our eyes, its movement is reversed. We think it's a type of inverse radiation triggered by nuclear fission.

Barbara: Try it... You have to have dropped it.
Protagonist: How can it move before I touch it?
Barbara: From your point of view, you caught it. But from the bullet's point of view, you dropped it.
Protagonist: But cause comes before effect.
Barbara: No, that's just the way we see time.
Protagonist: Well, what about free will?
Barbara: That bullet wouldn't have moved if you hadn't put your hand there. Either way we run the tape, you made it happen.

Barbara: Don't try to understand it. Feel it.

Protagonist: Why does it feel so strange?
Barbara: You're not shooting the bullet, you're catching it.

Protagonist: What do you think we're seeing?
Barbara: The detritus of a coming war.

Neil: Vodka tonic. And a Diet Coke... What? You never drink on the job.
Protagonist: You're well-informed.
Neil: Well, pays to be in our profession.
Protagonist: Well, I prefer soda water.
Neil: No, you don't.

Protagonist: I'm not the man they send to negotiate. Or the man they send to make deals. But I am the man people talk to.

Priya: To say anything about a client would violate the tenets he lives by.
Protagonist: If tenets are important to you, then you can tell me. Everything.

Protagonist: He can communicate with the future?
Priya: We all do, don't we? E-mails, credit cards, texts. Anything that goes into the record speaks directly to the future. The question is... can the future speak back?

Sir Michael Crosby: Look, no offense, but in this world, when someone is claiming to be a billionaire... Brooks Brothers won't cut it.
Protagonist: I'm assuming I'm on a budget.
Sir Michael Crosby: Save the world, then we'll balance the books. Can I recommend a tailor?
Protagonist: I'll manage. You British don't have a monopoly on snobbery, you know.
Sir Michael Crosby: Well, not a monopoly. More of a controlling interest.

Protagonist: Could you box that up for me?

Neil: The hell happened here?
Protagonist: It hasn't happened yet.

Protagonist: There's a cold war.
Neil: Nuclear?
Protagonist: Temporal.

Neil: Time travel?
Protagonist: No. Technology that can invert an object's entropy.
Neil: You mean reverse chronology. Like Feynman and Wheeler's notion that a positron is an electron moving backwards in time?
Protagonist: Sure, that's exactly what I meant.
Neil: I have a master's in physics.
Protagonist: Well, try and keep up.

Protagonist: Mr. Sator...
Sator: Don't bother. Just tell me if you've slept with my wife yet.
Protagonist: Uh... No. Not yet.
Sator: How would you like to die?
Protagonist: Old.

Sator: It's very gratifying to watch a man you don't like try to pull his own balls out of his throat before he chokes.

Sator: I've always had instincts about the future. That's how I built this life you no longer value.

Protagonist: Sailing or diving?

Sator: One man's probability of death... is another man's possibility for a life.

Sator: Look at me! And understand, you don't negotiate with a tiger. You admire a tiger until he turns on you and you feel its true fucking nature!

Ives: They're running a temporal pincer movement... The pincer movement. But not in space, in time. Half his team moves forward through the event. He monitors them, and then attacks at the end moving backwards, knowing everything.

Protagonist: Lying is standard operating procedure.

Ives: This is a proving window. As you approach the turnstile, if you don't see yourself in the proving window, do not enter the machine.
Protagonist: Why not?
Ives: If you don't see yourself reverse-exit a machine, then you ain't getting out.
Protagonist: Is that gonna work?
Ives: Yeah. See for yourself.

Neil: That's unknowable. If you're there to make a change, you're not here to observe its effect.
Protagonist: What do you believe?
Neil: What's happened's happened.

Ives: This is cowboy shit. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into if you go through that door.
Protagonist: Well, I'm going, so any tips would be welcome.
Ives: Wheeler, brief him.
Wheeler: You'll need your own air. Regular air won't pass through the membranes of inverted lungs. Number one rule: don't come into contact with your forward self. It's the whole point of these barriers and protective suits.

Wheeler: If your particles come into contact...
Protagonist: What?
Wheeler: Annihilation.
Protagonist: That would be bad, right?
Wheeler: When you exit the air lock, take a moment to orient yourself. Things will feel strange.
When you run, the wind will be at your back.
You encounter fire, ice will form on your clothes as the transfer of heat is reversed.
Gravity will feel normal but appear reversed for the world around you.
You may experience distortions in your vision and hearing.
Protagonist: This is normal. Can I drive a car?
Ives: Cowboy shit.
Wheeler: I can't vouch for the handling. Friction and wind resistance are reversed. You are inverted. The world is not.

Sator: You did get my pulse above 130, no one's done that before. Not even my wife.

Neil: You might be the first case of hypothermia from a gasoline explosion in history.
Protagonist: At this point, nothing surprises.

Kat: Who are you?
Neil: Let's start with the simple stuff. Every law of physics...

Protagonist: I've been thinking... We're their ancestors. If they destroy us, won't that destroy them?
Neil: This brings us to the grandfather paradox.
Protagonist: The what?
Neil: If you went back in time and killed your own grandfather, how could you have been born to commit the act?
Protagonist: What's the answer?
Neil: There's no answer. It's a paradox. But in the future, those in power clearly believe that you can kick grandpa down the stairs, gouge his eyes out, slit his throat, without consequence.
Protagonist: Could they be right?
Neil: Doesn't matter. They believe it.

Priya: What did I do?
Protagonist: It's what you're going to do. In two days, you're gonna have me dangle plutonium-241 in front of the world's most dangerous arms dealer.

Protagonist: You used me.
Priya: As you used Katherine. Standard operating procedure.

Priya: You've done your part.
Protagonist: My part? I'm the protagonist of this operation.
Priya: You... are a protagonist. Did you think you were the only one capable of saving the world?

Protagonist: There may be a time and place you feel threatened. Hit "talk," state your location, hang up.
Kat: Who gets the message?
Protagonist: Posterity.

— They'll have inverse ordnance?
Ives: Inverse, conventional, forward antagonists, inverted antagonists, they have it all.

— How do we defuse the bomb up there?
Ives: We don't. The explosion takes place as planned. Now, our job is to fail to defuse that bomb while the splinter unit achieves its task undetected.
— Which is?
Ives: Need-to-know, and you don't. Any other stupid questions?

Ives: Look, don't get on the chopper if you can't stop thinking in linear terms.

Kat: What is it?
Sator: The way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.
Kat: I don't understand.
Sator: When I take this, it's all over.
Kat: Then don't take it yet.
Sator: Why not?
Kat: Because we have the sunset coming. And a little vodka left.

Protagonist: Each generation looks out for its own survival.

Sator: My greatest sin was to bring a son into a world I knew was ending. You think God will forgive me?

Protagonist: No one who's seen this leaves the field...
Ives: All right. We hide it. We end our lives. That's the only way to be sure. As to when... maybe that's every man's decision to make for himself.

Protagonist: Neil, wait!
Neil: Just saved the world. Can't leave anything to chance.
Protagonist: But can we change things if we do it differently?
Neil: "What's happened's happened." Which is an expression of faith in the mechanics of the world. It's not an excuse to do nothing.
Protagonist: Fate?
Neil: Call it what you want.
Protagonist: What do you call it?
Neil: Reality.

Neil: You have a future in the past.

Neil: For me, I think this is the end of a beautiful friendship.
Protagonist: But for me, it's just the beginning.

Neil: World will never know what could've happened. And even if they did, they wouldn't care. No one cares about the bomb that didn't go off. Only the one that did.

Protagonist: I realized I wasn't working for you. We've both been working for me. I'm the protagonist.

Protagonist: Mission accomplished.

Sergey: How do you explain that?
Pavel: There must be some kind of antibodies or weakened pathogens in my blood. I didn't even get infected back at the hospital. In general, no virus has ever killed everyone, so...

Irina: His blood's a vaccine, right?
Pavel: It's not a vaccine. A vaccine prevents. It's more of a remedy.

Polina: Where's the owner, Dad?
Leonid: Who's armed he's the owner.

Polina: You actually took her house.
Leonid: Uh-huh.
Polina: Robbed her blind.
Leonid: What did you expect? To starve in the woods? Or to freeze to death? That's how you survive.
Polina: Is it worth it? Surviving like that?
